That's a rare guitar he's playing too. It's a 1961 Danelectro. He used it on early Yardbirds stuff. Then on 'When the Levee Breaks', 'Kashmir' & this song. He used the DADGAD tuning on it . It' has a unique sound as you can tell. He's using the side here too! Jimmy the master musician magician!

This is live. No over dubs. No vocal layering. No auto tune. 3 instruments and killer vocals. That's it. Let that sink in.

Ok , this is how it was ... when you knew Led Zeppelin was releasing the next album you couldnt wait to hear the content . That was the mystique of the band , and being a guitar player you never knew what Jimmy s path or approach would be !!! These guys at a young age were already well traveled and exposed to so many influences , reaching into the Delta of Mississippi to the desert people of Morocco and so much more !! For me its not where you start or end your journey of Led Zeppelin.....its the journey itself !

When I saw the title of this, I knew he was in for a treat. One of the best Zeppelin performances ever, when they were at their absolute peak. Only Page could get that tone out of a cheap Danelectro 3021.

They were, are and WILL ALWAYS BE the ultimate rock band.

"When gods walked among us." Makes me feel so sad that Bonham is gone... I remember the day the word came out that he'd died. I was a sophomore in 1980 and I didn't have a clue what they really were, who they really were... I loved them then and I love them more now. None can touch them.

Please review more Zeppelin live. That's what makes them so legendary, their live gigs. It wasn't just rote, studio copying songs...each night there songs had an entirely different journey than the previous concert. True masters of their craft.

May 25 1975..after 4 previous 3 hr plus shows in the span of 8 days. The raggedness and exhaustion add to the raw feel and vibe of this incredibly difficult song to pull off. This emotional performance stays with you more than a recording studio duplicate that other bands would do live. It adds another dimension and depth not only to the band but to the songs and it leaves the listener with several choices to make and listen to. Also and most important...it changes every night.

They were one of the few bands..along with Rush, Lynrd Skynrd, the Who that were as good and even better live bc they were NEVER BAD..they all just jam

It's interesting to see Americans and especially black Americans reacting to Led Zeppelin's blues inspired tracks because in part it's your own music being played back to you. The Rolling Stones and some other British bands of the late 60s and 70s did the same thing, but none as well as Led Zeppelin. Edit: I grew up with Led Zeppelin in the 70s but at the time I never understood where they'd got their inspirations, I was musically ignorant and thought it was just rock. I didn't know where it came from. The brilliance of Zeppelin is that they fused rock and blues and also sometimes English folk music, although often it was pure blues.

Its not fair when led zeppelin came out they are untouchable and all the other band's tried to be like them but they could not and ever since 1968 know one can even come close to led zeppelin master's of rock and roll sorry for the rest there will never be another led zeppelin this group led zeppelin there music will go on and on as the rest faid away only led zeppelin music will stay forever

I saw Led Zeppelin in 4 or 5 at the Long Beach arena in LA. Me and my cousin bought our tickets fore $20 at the troubadour on sunset boulevard 2 hours before the show. We were 30th row on the floor. 4 and a 1/2 hour show. I actually fell asleep during no quarter standing up on my seat. When I say fell asleep you know what I mean. One of the most unbelievable shows I've ever seen. Enjoy young folks

I was there. May 1975. What a show!!

Year after year they sound better and better.

I watched some tapes of page when he was pretty young, all the tunes they play were years in the works. A lot of songs sound nothing like they started out to be. But page was trying to find his signature in these tapes, and the only way you get that signature is lots of hours and repetition. He'd Play a riff on recording it may be four or five seconds riff, but he'd listen wind back listen wind back over and over and over. It'd drive you nuts watching but it has purpose. I took notice when I'd play 5 or sixth hour I entered thru something that was magical! I don't know how to explain it . Like going into another dimension or level my mind and hands entered a worldly encompassing vision and sound if that makes sense at all!

Listened to you carefully, you touched on a few things that were 100% correct, one wonders how such a creative flourish or blooming happened between 1965 and 1975, especially in Britain, and funnily it happened when British comedy also had a renaissance, such a Monty Python and others, previous boring middle class rules were broken, very creative times..

Kashmir stands out Have you followed Plants 40 year solo career? Some mighty fine music continues to pour out of that man. He still has his gift on loan from God as you say Also there is the No Quarter DVD, tour and album from 1995 with Plant and Page. Visually and auditorially stunning with much more of the Middle Eastern

WHY is this so good? let;s see.....Jimmy was showing off for a woman ..they were all so glad to play at home. after all the USA tours..in many ways a stellar run at Earls Court never bettered for happiness confidence, swagger and pride.

Take a look at the 2008 one off concert “Celebration day” at the o2 arena in London 28 years later with Jason Bonham on drums in place of his dad John. Still have it!

Brother, I loved hearing you share your discovery of the band. It's like finding out all again for myself. I hope you've gotten to the live versions of No Quarter and Dazed n Confused from TSRTS. I already loved those two studio tracks but the extended live versions (especially the NQ guitar solo) blew my mind. And then the live versions of those two from that same 75 concert at Earls Court (Again especially No Quarter). I want to highly highly recommend my other favorite band from the 70s if you haven't delved deeply, Pink Floyd. There's only a particular set of albums that I would push on you. They're really all concept albums so they're at least full-side listens. The albums start with 1973's Dark Side of the Moon, perhaps the greatest album ever recorded if you consider everything that goes into making an album - song writing, performance, creativity, inovation, sound quality, engineering, social validity, etc etc etc. There's not an aspect that isn't absolutely top-notch. Like jaw on the floor for 30 minutes kinda good. So starting with Dark Side then Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. Once you've heard those four, I'd then advice circling back to Meddle, the album before Dark Side. Any earlier than that, things get a bit dicey (overly experimental for the most part). You may know all this already and if you do I apologize for flapping my gums so annoyingly. If not, hold on to your hat. You're in for it. They didn't invent the concept album, but they perfected it!! Much love my brother.

In August 1975 while vacationing on the island of Rhodes in Greece, Robert lost control of his car and crashed. Although his kids were ok, he and his wife had several broken bones, and especially Robert was in a bad way. In a later interview about the wreck Robert said this song, In My Time of Dying, kept playing over and over in his head as he lay badly hurt by the roadside and he terribly regretted the song, at least while waiting for help to arrive.
