Although I wrote this song lo those many years ago, I love it. Recorded by Fanny mostly at Apple Studio on Saville Row in London, with Richard Perry producing and Geoff Emerick, engineer. The pedal steel was Sneaky Pete, overdubbed in LA early '72 (the basics were done Dec '71). I love what everyone in the band was doing, in my opinion they played perfectly for the song. We were listening to music eclectically then, from heavy metal to Motown/funk, to country western and blues. No one opposed me in doing this song, which I am so glad for. Alice's crisp sounds, groove, and every lick are perfection (and by that, I also include *driving in my meaning), Jean is as usual honkin' the bottom with that inimitable way she did, and Nicky could be accused of overplaying slightly, but again - it's actually perfect. Never got in the way. This is on tape, of course, which makes it sound even better!
Jean's on harmonies, she could even be doubling my vocal in some places, I can't really tell. Our voices are so similar that even I can get tricked!:))
Incidentally, a note about Sneaky Pete: we saw him playing with the Flying Burrito Brothers and I was smitten. He was so - o-oo good! You could say I stalked him until he came over to the house, but it didn't take much ... we became excellent friends and he showed me a lot of inner movement, just by doing it (playing) in front of me. I will always be grateful.
And lastly, I regret to say that the track kept acting like Wile E. Coyote, behaving perfectly fine one second, and then doing that awkward skip at the top and missing the first word, "I." I thought it was behaving when I did the "share," but Wile E. got me! Maybe I'll ry again to correct sometime, but right now I've got to move on. (although, who knows, the track might behave!!:))
Photos are by Linda Wolf, Oliver Strewe, Bob Riegler, and also provided from the June and Jean Millington Collection. Enjoy!

Excellent song and great to hear that Sneaky Pete slide in there, too. Fanny was such a pioneering LA band. Talented women who in my opinion were under appreciated. I met you, June, at a Ruth Denison's Dhamma Dena Desert Vipassana retreat waaaaayyy back in 1986. I was the cook at that 3 week winter retreat and recall that you arrived in the wee hours. I answered the door at 3am and lo and behold, recognized you as soon as your gorgeous smile flashed!💥 You've still got it!! Thanks for posting this "new" oldie! Great lyrics.

Visited the "Rock n' Roll Hall" on the weekend. There's a kiosk that allows you to nominate a band or performer for entry. There's a scrolling list of performers, showing their number of nominations received. I slid over and nominated Fanny, considering they were the first all female band to release an album on a major label. To my astonishment, it was their first nomination! David Bowie said it best... "They're as important as anybody else who's ever been, ever". Rock on June!

Fell in love with Fanny in '72 whilst serving in the Royal Australian Air Force in Butterworth, Malaysia. Bought Mother's Pride and declared they are the female Beatles. Bought Fanny Hill album a short time later, and it didn't surprise me at all that it was recorded at Abbey Road (in the number 2 studio no doubt). Like Jack Nicholson's character, Melvin Udall, from As Good As It Gets, I feel so privileged I got to hear the greatest female band when so many didn't.

Listening to this, I am getting quite emotional. It's my age. Not the song - beautiful though it is. But the cruelty of passing time. We were fans of theirs in the UK in the early seventies. Circa 2000 I had arranged online to meet June in a bar in their hometown in California. I was humbled and terrified in equal measure when she walked in. I ended up spending the day with her, Jean and Alice in Jean's house. It was very surreal. Jean was a little cool at first, but understandable as I was a stranger invited into HER house by her sister! Once she warmed up, all was good. And June was just one of the sweetest human beings I have ever met! They are all old ladies now. And I am an old man. But how I loved those days!

I kept trying to place all the great bands that literally flooded my ears, btw I got some new kick ass noise cancelling headgear too eh, but I just tried to groove on the vibe that was pure Fanny and no one else.
