This a quick guide that explains everything about the different connections for soundbars. This includes HDMI, HDMI ARC, Digital Optical, Digital Coax, RCAs, AUX, and Bluetooth.
There's a major difference between HDMI and HDMI ARC that a lot of people fail to mention! I explain this in-depth near the beginning of this video.

You are the first person I've found to successfully explain Arc and how it allows all devices connected to the TV flow audio to the soundbar. The owners manual of my yamaha yas 207 didn't even explain it fully. Thank you!

Bought a Samsung Q80r soundbar back in June '20, could not for the life of me get Disney+ to play in Atmos, no matter what I tried . I read that connecting your devices first to the soundbar and then the soundbar to TV ARC HDMI will also prevent the "lip sync" issue. Article explains that sound processing by TV is not as fast as video processing and as such delivers sound with latency. I actually like this option you described (devices --> soundbar --> TV) and also the fact that it clears the way for the other higher-end digital output like Atmos. Thanks for the clear and concise explanation!

Hi Jonah thanks for your video, my soundbar has two HDMI ports Ive tried connecting my Virgin Tivo box to the soundbar then HDMI Arc to my tv but my tv cant find connection. Does the Tivo box always have to connect direct to the tv?

Hello! Thank you so much for all that information! In my case i have a sound bar with only one HDMI port which I connected to the tv HDMI ARC and i use AT&T box connected to the tv as well in HDMI (Best). At the beginning it was working perfectly fine but now it started to have some sound issues like being suddenly cut or no sound at all! I wonder if i have it connected wrong or am I missing something! Please help!

Hey Jonah, Thanks for the video. I have a question though. I have an old TV (1080p, not smart) which I am using with the help of a chrome cast. If I buy a JBL 9.1 Soundbar, will I be able to get the Dolby Sound output? I have option for another HDMI output but that's not an HDMI ARC. Is there a way to work around with this?

It’s a good video, but I have a question. I have all my sources connected to the Sony HT-ST5000 via HDMI. Is there any value in connecting to the HDMI ARC on the Sony TV, or will this ‘confuse’ the signal somehow? Or will this provide the additional benefit of having the odd Sony App audio going through the soundbar? Both HDMI2 and HDMI3 ARC on the TV are the enhanced ports.

My biggest concern is will the volume remote that I now have (dish remote) still be able to control the volume on a soundbar?I DO NOT want to have 2 separate remote controls.One for channels and one for volume.This may seem like a dumb question but I know basically nothing about soundbars and how they function. Are you familiar with Audioquest cables that have the arrow indicators? I have one connected from Apple TV to the tv with arrows towards TV, but what about a soundbar connected to the TV? Using an eArc HDMI port.

Question: I just received a Yamaha soundbar and a SHU sub... I tried hooking it up to my bedroom TV (Sony A9S Oled 48"), The light's are on on the Sub, I have the sub connected to the Soundbar but there's no sound from the sub. The soundbar plays but not the sub. Suggestions? Thank you Joe

I have a hue sync box that everything is connected to in order to have my hue system link up colored lights with whats on screen. Ill be getting a Sonos arc on the 12th and wonder if this is the proper set up. All devices (Playstation 5 and amazon tv.... might not connect amazon tv anymore due to just using PS5 for media also) and then my hue sync box into the Sonos arc HDMI input, then connect another HDMI to the sonos arc HDMI ARC run the cable to my TV's HDMI ARC. Would this be the way to do it for the best experience? Thank you for your time
