Yes it definitely depend on your test and budget. Traditional home theater it does get expensive really quick but as far as I have experienced with electronics stuff they are last really long time with some nice surge protector. Yes I do have sound bar. But eventually love of the music and satisfaction isn’t enough with sound bar you can feel it missing something all the time that you are listening to it. This video is a solid proof to my feeling is right. You know what you live once so go big or go home. Thank for the video. Happy listening everyone.🙏🏻

A good soundbar accompanied by rear speakers can be a good compromise in terms of value for money. Good soundbars still manage to spatialize sound. The rear speakers bring an undeniable advantage. It also has the advantage of being less intrusive.

If you have a small apartment like I do and want something close to a home theater system I’d suggest to anyone to get a soundbar, I had a LG soundbar with a subwoofer that I just replaced with a JBL Deep base 2.1 soundbar and I had the LG soundbar for almost 9 years. It served me well and I enjoyed watching tv with and playing games on it too, it was my first soundbar and it did the job as my home speaker system.

As I have a next room neighbour, my lounge is my media room, and a q600b soundbar with rear speakers is by far enough for my needs. I can't have the volume past 25 in the evening so it is never going to be totally immersive, but at the same time it gives a very enhanced soundstage especially with dtsX blurays, which sound warmer and fuller than Dolby digital. Atmos doesn't interest me, as I don't want ceiling speakers, and don't want to compromise with upfiring, as that defeats the main desire of having height channels, if I was to get really involved. It's great people have the choice now, but 5.1 will do for me 🙃

Hi, I have the Samsung Q950T/ZC (9.1.4 channels) with the rear/height speakers and I love it a lot. It does a very good job delivering Dolby Atmos and DTX-X... if you have the good room configuration. I know it will never be as "immersive" as having all individual speakers, especially for the height, but the sound is still very impressive. And like pointed out in the video, you don't have to deal with all the wires and cables. And correct me if I'm wrong, a full set of speakers and receiver will be way more expensive to achieve the same level of sound quality.

You can do a good quality 5.1 set up with discrete channels that will sound better and be less expensive. A good 5.1 setup is all 99% of people need. You're getting sold snake oil for the most part beyond that. I'll take a nice 5.1 setup over a mediocre 7+.x.x setup any day.

If you have the space, go for the av receiver option even if you only start with 2 speakers. You can always buy more down the road. If the significant other does not approve, go with a sound bar. ANYTHING is better than tv speakers. And research from lowest tier to mid tier sometimes the upgrade path is sooner than you think and you don't want to get stuck with equipment that has limitations and you have to store or sell.

I second this! I started with 2.1 + AVR, 10 years ago. I didn't have the opportunity until this year to add to it (now 5.1), and I should've done it earlier! The results are amazing and well worth it, and if you get a decent brand, like Dali without spending too much, they'll last many years to come.

Its the wires thing. I dont know how people snake wires in their walls to other parts of their living rooms in one shot? Doesnt the wire only go about 3 feet before it drops down, how do you get it to the other 20 plus feet with one hole insertion. Also, having wires snaked allnaroundbthe living room will make our nice house look like a damn college dorm room. I love surround sound but I would take a big risk in damaging my home installing these wires in a reasonable fashion or just looking like tacky teenager owns the home. Im looking into that soros arc setup w 2 small speakers, sub, and soundbar for $2,000 and its wirelessand damn mear flawless xonnection i hear. Im a pro wire guy but wifey, nice house, and 3 very small children makes a novice like me nervous as i never did rhis before and it involves ripping up my walls and stuff.

I've had several soundbars and surround sound package but it was only when I purchased a budget AVR and a pair of budget speakers that I realised what I was missing, (stereo imaging, thumping bass, fully enveloping soundstage imaging etc) besides going down this route one can always add to it overtime... surround speakers, subwoofers one can even get height speakers and have the full non virtual Dolby Atmos experience. Nowadays AVRs has so simple to setup they even walk you through the process. Remember movies are made up of 50% visuals and 50% audio and there are occasions when the audio out does the visuals.

The advantage is they don't take up much space and they're usually only one connection between the soundbar and the TV. But you're not going to get good sound out of most of them. For what most soundbars cost now, you are almost better with a receiver, a couple bookshelf speakers and a sub. It will usually cost the same if you buy used too. Start with a 5.1 receiver, and just buy it piece by piece. You can upgrade to better speakers or sub or receiver later if you want. My relatively cheap 2.1 system imo sounds far and away better than any soundbar I've owned.

I definitely love the experience of having speakers all around and the way that they drown you inside the film, series or game that's been played in the system. Great video, well done Sir, i myself feel a bit bias to actual surround systems. However, if you consider bugdet, space, wiring. a good soundbar with subwoofer and wireless satellite rear speaker is a very good choice, as you save the money for the reciever and you have way less cables to deal with. BUT there is a big twist in this. the market is filled out with those cheap once, so be aware you got exactly what you paid money for. so no real bargain in soundbars world, the cheaper the price is, the worse your speakers are. the industry know that and the market know that and every soundbar will end up in someone's house, because they are modern, easier and cheaper. so the demands on them is higher comparing to actual sound systems.

When comparing similar quality levels, I found the sound bar cost more. Using the Sony HTA7000 paired with a SUB-woofer, the cost is 1700 not including surround speakers. Add 2 surround-speakers and you are over 2000. Or I can buy a similar quality Sony separates for about $1000. The sound-bar is wireless and I'm sure this accounts for the extra cost. The experience with the separates will be better, but I'll need to run speaker cables to the back of the room for surrounds, not the mention the size of the separates vs the SB in a Livingroom.

I understand that a 5.1, 7.x or 9.whatever AV Receiver home cinema setup is "better" than a soundbar. I have an 15y old 720p LCD TV (yup, still running) and thinking of upgrading the audio. I am watching mostly(!) talk shows/documentaries (= more voice than sound effects). My setup locks of clear voice. I wonder if a AV Receiver with 3.0 setup (left/right/center) is still outperforming a soundbar for my intention? Pro is that I would be flexible to expand to 5./7./9. (depending on rcv.) in the future whereas con might be that it is too overkill. On the other side my TV has no ARC/eARC so I would need to buy in addition to the soundbar likely a HDMI/eARC Splitter and in also an HDMI switch (unless the bar provides enough inputs; Sonos Arc aint doing so). Any thoughts how I shall proceed? And nah, a new TV aint in my focus ;-) Thanks!

I believe a quality soundbar paired with surround speakers and a subwoofer is good enough for most folks. By adding surrounds and a sub to the soundbar - you get some of the best of each option. The simplicity & cost saving of soundbars *with* some additional channels to provide heft and a true surround experience. Sure, a 7.1 system with dedicated speakers for each channel will still be better, but most folks don't want to deal with the extra expense and space/wires that requires. Just my two cents.

I remember a time when I had a decent audio system, a receiver, DvD player, Tape player, Reel to Reel and 4.1 channels with mid range towers and bookshelves. The reality is that I can't justify rebuilding a similar system because it is space, labor and cost intensive. I don't want to drill holes and run cables. Secondly, I don't consume as much television content as I used to. I'm almost exclusively on Neflix and Prime. Lastly I'm not a console gamer so that one more thing that de-incentivizes me from going all out. I had an older entry level Bose sound bar interconnect it had was optical. I replaced my TV recently and it had all kinds of Dolby, HDR, EArc and 4k features which I did not have in the past. I realized that my single soundbar was insufficient to create an immersive experience. I grabbed a Samsung Q60c 3.1 and wow was it a huge improvement. I was blessed not to take that soundbar direction having heard the pros and cons because it wasn't going to satisfy my greed for an impactful bass experience plus the restriction of sticking to one soundbar brand which limits the prospect to upgrade. I'm now happy with my average traditional hifi system and upgraded gradually but a bit costly though. I went back to my technology store and condemned the same soundbar systems that earlier blew me away after realising how they were extremely underpowered and lacking indepthness. What a fake bass that wouldn't even rumble a needle let alone rumble walls, washing machines and refrigerators or meet your partner and neighbours disapproval. Soundbars are a cheaper option for those who aren't too keen about sound quality and speakers placement or cannot afford to over-spend.

I'm not an expert by any means when it comes to soundbars, but from those two brands I'd choose LG. From what little I've read over the last year they are great quality. Are you open to other brands of soundbars? What brand is your tv?

I always think it’s generally good practice to match brand products together whenever possible. I know all the connections and cables and materials are the same. But from my experience same brand products work better together. That said I think Klipsh also has some great soundbars BUT they do not not decode DTS

No shame in that man. My first sound system was an out of the box 5.1 samsung system. Very unimpressive compared to what I have now, but it was what I could afford at the time.

The two front and left channel speakers are paradigm studio monitors, matching with the paradigm sonic sphere center channel speaker and the rear Onkyo speakers and to power at all is a Morant SR5009 Dolby Atmos 4K resolution AVR receiver. If I were to compare a sound bar to the system, all the other TVs in our house, have Vizio sound bars and none of them have anything on these guys not even the Bose system my brother has in his room has anything on these guys I would say an actual Home Theater surroundsound system with physical speakers is 1,000,000% the way to go because not only is it an understatement to say that the movie experiences more immersive, but just so is the sound detail in everything that you are watching is some thing that sound bars will never be able to fully re-create without all the necessary physical speakers. It’s just not possible virtual listening, has nothing on the actual physical sound that you get from a surroundsound system. The only downside is that if you want to get a system like this it’s gunna cost around the $3K range not accounting for the receiver, and the subwoofer. Still overall hands-down I would tell anybody to go with the physical Surround sound system versus just going with the cheaper alternative, which is a sandbar.

My 1st original 5.0 system was back in 2008 Samsung with dvd player 800wats was belting now have purchased a Sony HT-S40R sound bar with part wireless rear speakers as they plug into adapter so I wouldn't have speaker wire running around the house it's 600wwtts.thought it was going to be ok but it tries to hard you can't have it on a comfortable volume without disrupting others around house if your watching a Netflix series and you have to crank it up to watch film it's just dissapointing.wished stayed with original set up of speaker wire everywhere and 5 speakers.i could have bought 5 speakers and sub and had change left over with how much this Sony HT-S40R cost and then bought separate receiver very annoyed I am.

No contest full surround sound system. You know right away its a soundbar because of the sound it's not big. Also, so limited media player you can connect on a soundbar, for a receiver you can connect at least 6 media box or gaming console. Soundbar is only good for small room.

A soundbar sure beats TV speakers. But a discrete speaker system definitely beats a soundbar, assuming the sound quality is the same. The separation and imaging is key. I've tried both and prefer a discrete system by far.

Brian failed to mention that like in a movie theater a true 7.1.4 Atmos system will send each speaker it's own channal file. A sound bar is basicaly just the SRS Wow effect. So you won't get all the sounds of the movie. If you add surrounds then yeah you'l get the surround channals on their own, but what of all the rest? I prefer a real 7.1.4 Atmos system.

I have tried soundbars released in 2021 and not just Samsung ones unlike you. I've listened to LG, Klipsh and Bose ones. While they sound good, they cannot produce the loudness of a quality sound sound system and you cannot create direction sound from a soundbar no matter how much you try. It's called research. Guess you haven't heard of that.

This one is confusing. The movie was NOT shot on IMAX film cameras like Dunkirk or TENET were. Portions were shot on certified IMAX digital cameras and the aspect ratio is 1.90:1 which is a ratio IMAX digital uses.

I've had some pretty good soundbar systems and the biggest issue I've always faced is they just can't handle being turned up loud. Speakers popping/crackling. Plus more and more have removed support for DTS sound and being a big Blu-ray watcher, DTS sound matters to me. I replaced my soundbar setup with a stereo receiver I got from my parents and even though it's 25 years old, it still sounds a lot better imo and can handle some volume.
