I wonder what the benefit of this is compared to a normal metronome or one that's built into a digital piano.

Apps are usually much easier to adjust and control compared to the built in metronomes, I find. For these, they may not be for everyone but people find them convenient and prefer having the option to feel the vibrations which may also be helpful for some to keep concentration focused on the beat when you first learn

The problem I have with this "silent" metronome is it's too damn loud and the buzzing it makes is very unmusical. Even its least accented beat (really more of a "bzzrt" than a beat) is loud enough to hear in home practice for anything below mp, and always in rests. If I'm going to hear it during practice, I'll use one of my other metronomes. In my view it might be okay on a loud gig if not listening to a click track through IEMs, though I'm not a fan of click tracks in performance unless the it's required for everyone by the leader. Another place it might be useful is in a studio recording where the production calls for a rigid time, perhaps especially before any initial percussion tracks are laid down, but then ONLY if there are no active mics placed where they can pick up its annoying noise. Again, if the talent is listening with headphones why not use a click? I will say that in those performance applications where a Sound Brenner might be useful, the ability to synchronize several would be important, but if subsequent tracks are being recorded is there a way to synchronize those SBs after the first tracks are in the can? From their ads I had high hopes for it, but sadly mine will remain just an expensive dust collector. Even as a headstock tuner it's okay as long as the adhesive is as kind on instrument finishes as they advertise, but even there I have a pedal strobe tuner that I much prefer. A great idea with, for me at least, a very disappointing execution.
