As a singer, it feels really good hitting those notes, even better when theres a responce from the crowd like that. He knew everyone was looking at him this show and wondering "can he still do it?" That was my first thought when I heard they got back together. It makes sense that this is the first live thing they put out. There are no questions after listening to it.

That's cute. But I always thought it was because of the camera person. Notice right after the song is over he goes over to them and I think says "How are you?" and then does the funny bear hug move, which I can't really tell if he was a little annoyed at them or not. I don't think he was a big fan of cameras pointed at him. I like that about him.

Chris' voice has never stopped evolving. In Superunknown 1994 his mids were outstanding in songs like Mailman and Limo Wreck and he sounded completely different to what he did a few years prior to that in the Ultramega OK days. Fast forward about a decade and his Audioslave voice had a completely different tone about it than the Modern day Chris (post Higher Truth). It's almost like you can tell from what era of Chris' career he's at just by listening to the tonal qualities of his voice.
@withmygoodeyeclosed
@withmygoodeyeclosed 6 жыл бұрын
You are right about being able to tell from what era a Cornell song/performance is by listening to the tonal quality, glad i'm not the only one geeking over that lol :). My guess is he had to keep adapting his voice to hit the high notes. Every era was great, such amazing contrast of sounds. Whatever he worked up to the Soundgarden reunion, it worked, but yeah, in 2017 he sounded different from 2010 though still able to do the Soundgarden shows, hell he could still sing this song and Slaves And Bulldozers, performances from the last tour are great. I feel like at the end his mid-range was at its strongest point (in a live setting, singing consistently) and his high range topped at around D5 and he was just great all-around. Such a shame, really my all time favorite singer... R.I.P.

I've seen Cornell 11 x with Soundgarden, and 6 x solo, and FNM 4 x. Cornell's definitely my pick, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone choosing Patton by any stretch; just down to preference. I still remember seeing FNM for the first time in 2009; my lasting impression was the sheer power, range, and control of Patton's voice. All things I love about CC too.

Dave hits harder than anyone, but he's an old-fashioned rock'n'roll drummer, descended via Bonham from the greats of the big-band swing style going back into the 1930s, with a 70s/80s punk influence. Cameron doesn't hit quite as hard, but he's more a progressive technical drummer, more of a Buddy Rich/Stewart Copeland/Neil Peart influence IMO.

Grew?? This is 2010. Listen to him in 1989. He was better then than he was here. It's just that by 2010 people were speculating that he had lost his voice, obviously they were mistaken. I was in Seattle in the early '90's and remember Soundgarden and their fans when we were all hanging out on those porches on the north side. Not everyone liked him, but no one could deny the talent and uniqueness that was in that group (especially him). I'll never forget him and that voice that was somewhere between a scream, a wail, and an operatic high tenor. Beautiful.

Love this video. Sorry for this long message but just sharing a little something. I was fortunate enough to see Soundgarden many times and Chris Cornell‘s acoustical set many more times. They were and still are my favorite band. One of the coolest times is back on the superunknown tour, they were in town in Los Angeles. During the set somebody was beating up on some girl down in the front. So during the song Chris stopped singing and said “if you wanna f--with somebody hit me. He got so pissed he literally dove off the stage and had it out right there in front. Kim and the guys stopped playing and went to the front so they can pull him out as soon as they can reach him with the help of security. Anyways everybody, merry Christmas from the high desert in Southern California🤘👊🎄

I learnt to sing with Chris. I used play superunknown over and over and singing along. It´s funny because I have elements of his style in my singing voice because of it. I saw soundgarden back in 2013. I was so emotional at the gig, that I cried. Soundgarden meant everything to me and still does

Most underrated and overlooked part of this performance 5:24-5:28. Whole band just threw down a gargantuan performance, firing on all cylinders. but something about that full stop from the whole band, followed by Chris’ breathy little echoing moan, then that drum punch, then chris’ perfectly timed grunt like he just got punched in the gut, and then swinging back into the massive main riff before that ending. Just the chef’s kiss from the band on the end of this iconic performance

That second escape of breath from Chris describes this performance perfectly. The whole thing is just a punch in gut. A beautiful little detail thrown in by Chris
