There's a big difference when soundproofing a wall DIY and calling a professional soundproofer in your area to get the job done! In this video, I will show you step by step how a pro will come in and soundproof a wall and also sound proof a ceiling.
With the use of a resilient channel, along with either some mass loaded vinyl or green glue acoustical compound, green glue sealant, putty pads, and a thicker 5/8" drywall, you will notice a considerable difference. If you know how to remove drywall and install drywall, then you could follow the steps in this video!

Small tip, the yeti mic doesn't take in sound from the top but from the front. (can depend with the current settings, but even then it's back and front and not from the top) The current use makes it sound as if you're quite distant and not talking into the mic

Hi amazing video! I've just moved into a flat couple months ago and I can hear my upstairs neighbours walking about its very loud and creeky, I understand people got to live but it's unbearable, I think my ceilings are too thin, I spoke to the neighbour who was really nice said she has thick underlay under her laminate, I think it's the buildings, I'm wanting to know what would work for me to soundproof my ceiling without ripping it down

Hello! I have been following your channel and very inspired! I actually started my soundproofing project after watching your videos. I live in a duplex and have a wall separates me and my tenants. I use to be able to hear everything from my tenants side ! the type of music they're playing, if they talked loud enough i could hear what they were saying too. I decided to knock down the sheetrock on my side and I added Rockwool SafenSound insulation, I also sealed the outlets and light fixtures with soundproof puttypad as well. I hired a contractor to install the MLV and also my soundproof sheetrock (5/8 Quietrock). In between the stages of the project, I made sure any cracks or gaps were sealed with soundproof sealant. After all the expenses, my heart dropped when i was still able to hear my tenants. Honestly it seemed like it lowered about 10db. It did a great job by soundproofing distant sounds. But any sounds that are closer to the wall, I can still hear very clearly unfortunately. Do you have some advice toward this? I am 7k deep into this project and I'm not sure what I should do next

I am so sorry! That is awful! Did you find a solution? I think for a situation where you actually share a wall, it is neccessary to build a second wall that has an air gap between the two walls and your second wall would have drywall on both sides of it and insulation in between.

Thank you for all the great info. One thing I can’t find is how to install resilient channels on a windowed wall? Goal is to block out street noise. Also how much is overkill as any greater sound insulation than the windows (double pane vinyl) is probably a waste. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'm thinking of Decoupling the drywall and adding safe and sound as my bedroom wall is next to a staircase. If there is insulation already, should i add the Safe and Sound on top of the existing stuff? (if it fits of course)

I'm probably going the DIY route. I've got exposed 2x10 floor joists above. Would you recommend 1 layer of rockwool, or R30 pink insulation? They are very close in price per square foot. Just trying to get a pros opinion since I don't have any professional soundproof companies in my area.

Do you need resilient channels if your studio is separate from everything else I’m going to use safe and sound insulation then sono pan pannels then sheet rock over that would I need resilient channels still ?

What do you think about the SONOPAN product? How about 1 layer of SONOPAN + 1/2 drywall for the ceiling. That should take care of a lot of the noise without the need for resilient channels? I saw many videos of pros using SONOPAN and one layer of drywall 1/2 on a ceiling which provided great results.. The resilient channels themselves can add a bit more in terms of vibration elimination. But back to the original question.. Any experience with SONOPAN?

Strange question but does it make a difference on which side the mass loaded Vinyl goes on? Let’s say your trying to block sound from the kitchen (pots pans microwave dishwasher etc) would you want it closest to the kitchen (primary source of sound) or away ? Thanks

how much roughly should I expect to spend if I hired professionals? Would they charge by each wall? For the size of your house? (I'm in a condo around 1000sqf) I would love to get this done but want to make sure I have the budget. Appreciate your videos.

Can you please give me some ideas for helping to reduce the loud foot traffix noise from above neighbors. I cant alter the house though.

That’s a hard one without making alterations. Have you contacted the people upstairs to find a solution? Maybe carpeting would help reduce the stomping noise… maybe a conversation to have with the landlord.

By the time you have soundproofed walls how much space is taken thickness from existing to added soundproofing. Also how much depth of ceiling is required thanks. I have viewed loads of KZfaqrs videos and no one tells you this information

What is the best way to fix a TV on soundproof wall with resilient channel? Is the resilient channel be able support the weight of the TV? Thank you!
@soundproofguide
@soundproofguide 2 жыл бұрын
You shouldn’t drill it through the resilient channel. A toggle anchor or a toggle bolt is a great way to hang a TV without studs. You'll need to use a hollow wall anchor that looks similar to a regular screw, with a butterfly toggle at the end. Once you've placed them in the wall, they'll attach to the back.

Great advice- with it, I can make a plan, then hire an honest handyman to implement. Too many cowboys in the contractor game! Q: Will Resilient channel (+ Sonopan + acoustic sealant + drywall) help lessen the impact of traffic vibration and sound ?
@soundproofguide
@soundproofguide 2 жыл бұрын
It DEFINITELY will help lessen the impact noise. Make sure to ask the contractor if he’s ever installed resilient channel. Most people saying RC doesn’t work is because it was improperly installled.

Could I say that its coupled up no matter what you do, you have screwed the resilient channel to the joists/coupled then you screw the drywall to the resilient channel/coupled again.

Roxul is barley better than fiberglass for sound. A 3.5 inch batt with paper facing out of the room in a 3.5 cavity will work better than afb 3 inch roxul. With a half inch air gap in the 3.5 inch cavity. Easier and more cost effective. Plus you can make the kraft paper air tight. Cost effectiveness.

I disagree with a contractor doing a better job than I can do. First I bet a majority of contractors aren’t that great. I’ve flipped houses, I’ve seen my builder to a spec house. A competent DIY’r is more than capable of doing the same or better job. It’s my house, I care about it, I will overkill it on the thoroughness of the job.
