In Sweden we have in general better sound proofing but I'm so happy to now live in a house instead of a flat. No more hearing our neighbours arguing. Once we had an episode of hearing an alarm clock going off half an hour earlier than we were going up ourselves and no one was turning it off. Turned out to be a flat in a parallel stairwell to ours in a flat diagonal to ours. They were very apologetic when they realised. Their kid had been admitted to hospital for a couple of weeks so they hadn't slept at home. So understandable but really damaging for our sleep.

Maybe its the door leaking sound. If so - use sealing tape to seal all air gaps. If its the wall, your go-to solution is to make mineral wool+drywall sandwich.

Acoustic treatment and soundproofing are two completely different things like you said yourself. Do not start with acoustic treatment if you don’t want the sound to escape the room, because it will. You will first need to add as much mass as possible in the form of a reflective wall that is airtight and preferably decoupled from the main wall. Only AFTER that you can do acoustic treatment (purely to remove the impact that the room has on your speakers).

@@sleeanisnotlean Ahh okay, well that sounds fun! In that case, just try to keep in mind that sound isolation is about preventing the sound from leaving the room. So it can help to close doors and even close any holes or strips of air that might let the sound out. Stuff like foam and acoustic treatment won’t do anything for sound isolation, those are only useful to make the room sound nicer on the inside. You need thick walls with a lot of mass. So technically speaking it will help if you can somehow make your walls thicker by adding a layer of mass. Hope that helps!

I'm subscribing your channel for guidance of soundproofing my room for my upcoming buy saxophone in the future... But right now, I'll just take notes of your useful advices... I'd knew that noise complaint is inevitable for musicians because in order to "perfecting" the music skill, the musician needs to practice every single hours daily until the music skills has polished...And so, loud music is no joke and could potentially disturb the neighbour... And disturb the neighbour is the last thing for a musician wants... Not only you'll get reported to the authority by your noise disturbed neighbour but also could "confiscated" your entire music equipments permanently for good... And that's the last thing that I want...

Acoustic panels and acoustic foam are 'SNAKE-SALESMAN-CRAP'. Your Wall's need to BE INSULATED FROM SOUND first and foremost. It will STOP sound out and in. Use a wooden frame not connected TO the walls withing your room/s. Then USE Exterior Rockwool SLABS and then cover over with SOUNDBLOCK Gyprock, use whatever type of a soundblock-soundproof type of Gyprock sheets which are available to you. THIS Works 100% it DOES ! I have used this system all over not only my house but next-door-neighbour's walls too and neither of us hear ANYTHING from one another and we both watch TV and Movies LOUD !!!
