I don't care what country you're from or what views you have. You have to recognize cool when you see it. The slow spool up and staging of the afterburners makes the takeoff of this beautiful aircraft seem like an enormous occasion. It's like a space ship that was designed to takeoff from a runway, and I can only imagine the rumble that would be going through your entire being as it pushes to max thrust.

На службе в СА в 1982-1984 годах в Украине, я служил в гв.авиационном полку стратегической авиации, мы будучи солдатами во время полётов находились на взлетной полосе, мы наши родные Ту-22 провожали и встречали их, отстегивая их тормозные парашуты, это словами не передать какой стоял грохот, дрожал воздух, языки пламени форсажа вырывающиеся из турбины показывали мощь и всю красоту этой машины, закрыв уши наблюдали как эти махины особенно когда летели на маршрут разгонялись на 3 км взлетной полосе и в конце полосы отрываясь от земли, начинали набирать высоту, мы наблюдали за этими огнями форсажа пока они не пропадали высоко в небе, это было что то, и такое не забывается, прошло уже почти 40 лет, и посмотрев это видео у меня до сих пор мурашки по коже, эмоции зашкаливают, какие они всё-таки Тушки красивые, особенно в ночных полетах!!! КЛАССНОЕ ВИДЕО! спасибо Всем!!!

This is my favorite military plane from the Soviet side in the cold war era. It is an amazingly small world. In business I met people at Tupolev and other Russian firms like it, but in Texas, one of the family friends is a former Soviet pilot who flew the Tu-22 M3 from a base in Crimea. And he is a really nice person, go figure. I am a Russophile so that's a given.

Russia and America shouldn’t be enemies. Unfortunately, Washington DC cannot accept that other powers have spheres of influence and red lines that they cannot tolerate being crossed. And DC is dedicated to the failure of Russia, they’d like to see it carved up into several smaller states with fewer resources, less landmass, and for ease of control.

It seems like everything we in the business community did or tried to do was undone but the State Dept. and NATO ( which is an arms market seeking enemies to justify it's existence ). Everyone is raving about the engines, but I'm more impressed by these badass brakes that can hold the plane still while in almost full afterburner. That's some impressive breaking strength right there.

Doesn't it seem wasteful to just sit there like that with the brakes on? Idk that kind of confuses me. Maybe the runway was short or something, so they had to take off with full afterburners.

@@kevinfromsales6842 It's probably part of a pre-flight checks. These are huge engines and it definitely takes some time for the afterburning to fully ignite and stabilize. They also need to check if the engines are operating within their parameters, if temperature is within norms, if the nozzle sets itself to correct position, etc... It's a standard procedure for many military planes to take off at full afterburner, even smaller ones like F16, even if the runway is sufficiently long. Afterburners are essentially self sustaining once lit, but if there's a problem during takeoff, there may be not enough airflow or fuel to light them. So for safety reasons, they're used every time.

@@kevinfromsales6842 nope, that's a normal procedure to check the engine, also used to take off from short runways, it takes a few more seconds to reach full throttle on jet engines so you have to hit the brakes until your engine is on full throttle. Is also used on piston engine aircraft but is less necesary because piston engines reach full power a lot faster

What a beast! I love these vintage Cold War Soviet aircraft. This plane has a brutality to it, from the huge tires and overbuilt, land on anything gear, to the rear twin cannon to the solid rocket booster-like takeoff, every inch a testimony to the Soviet philosophy of build it big, robust and powerful. Terrifyingly beautiful!

Those are as vintage as any fast strategic bomber is nowadays, last few units were produced in 1993. They are modernizing them constantly.

В 10 классе были на военных сборах в летной военной части в Шайковке и эта хреновина влетала по полосе в 200м от нас , грохот такой что земля дрожала, вместе с внутренними органами, затыкание ушей руками ни чего не давало, самое громкое что я видел в и слышал в своей жизни 😄

Love how the afterburners light up. You can actually watch the individual burner staging rings light up inside those massive burner cans. Sadely, the microphone sound pickup does not do any justice to how ultra loud these engines truly are. I bet The Sound Traveller and his high end binaural audio sound field recording equipment would really bring the power of these engines through.

@@tdoubleo7001 they are burning much hotter than most afterburners. The reddish afterburners we usually see are orange which means it’s not burning all the fuel and is a “cooler” temp. Blue is much hotter.

Хорошие кадры работы форсажной камеры. Иностранные самолеты имеют оранжевый цвет пламени, что говорит о неполном сгорании топлива. Голубой цвет - полное сгорание топлива до выхода из форсажной камеры. Хотя если правильно говорить то что мы видим после форсажной камеры это и не пламя, а воздух разогретый до состояния плазмы. Отличное видио.

Цвет пламени определяеться углеводородным сотавом топлива. Чем выше соотношение водорода к углероду тем синее цвет пламени.

Цвет струи зависит от ее температуры. То, что у некоторых самолетов струя на выходе оранжевая, не обязательно означает, что топливо плохо сгорает. У Ту-22 форсажные камеры установлены практически вплотную к соплу. А, например, у американского F-22 камеры находятся глубже, струя там дополнительно охлаждается, поэтому на выходе она оранжевая, хотя сам по себе выхлоп движка у Раптора синий, как джедайский меч (на испытательном стенде). Так что конструкция двигла тоже играет роль.

Michal Lepieš - total agree, views as engine transitioned from idle to afterburner lighting, to Full AB ...because of excellent zoom, wouldnt have known but that looks like Russians afterburner fuel nozzles are closer to end of exhaust exit...interesting, that makes sense...hence the common bluer glow of their AB vids...Fantastic vlog....Agreed

These Backfires were designed sometime in the 60s. I can only imagine the kind of aviation technology that would have been available if USSR was around today. I am sure we would see some real kick ass planes. The Tu-160 is a beauty. Mad respect for crazy Russians.

Когда служил в Иркутске на авиабазе белая. Там базировались эти самолёты. При форсаже стоял невероятный грохот. В 100 метрах даже от него невозможно было не закрывать уши. Видео не может передать тот грохот что стоит

Братец,мы на великах приезжали их смотреть,авиабаза Лахта ,под Архангельском,пароль старый,я к папе на работу)))садились в траву около взлетки....в уши карандаши сували как будто,уши закрываешь,кишки тресло...после седьмого самолета нас прогнали:-D

Я в Рязани жил, там базировался полк дальней бомбардировочной авиации, и там были и 22-м3 м и медведи, особенно ночные полеты. Я жил за 15 км от ВПП, но грохот был такой, что стены шатались, особенно от 95-го, или реверса илюши.

@@tensecondbuickgn Looks like you haven't been studying much physics. Blue flame is HOTTER than red/yellow flame. At 7:15 you can see a dim red glow in the left exhaust. It turns to blue, almost white, when full A/B is selected.

@@tensecondbuickgn Blue means it's ionized more of the fuel and is burning hotter. Orange means there is unburned fuel which is creating carbon atoms in the exhaust and therefore wasting fuel. Remember a bunsen burner in science class, where if the mix wasn't right you got an orange flame with smoke, but when the mix was perfect you had that blue flame with zero smoke.

Tu-22 afterburner has a unique fuel oxygen atomizer system which give off a deep blue flame with higher thrust lower fuel consumption compared to conventional afterburner.

Saw a Ukrainian tu22 taking off at raf cottesmore 20 years ago I was amazed by the blue afterburner very unusual I think mirage 4 is the only other type I've seen with that kind of reheat

Не раз выпускал на стартовом. Посчастливилось в первых рядах освоить его 1986году. Тогда не было даже сотовой связи)). Оформили класс самолета и двигателей для дальнейшего обучения. Очень много тонкостей в обслуживании этой авиатехники, не все успел передать, но надеюсь не подкачают техники и инженеры. Слава ДА! 23 декабря - наш День.

Красота конечно неповторимая. Смотреть взлеты и посадки таких машин- это умиротворение и гордость. Вот только автор подзагнул в заголовке, сказав "как ракета". Это при весе в124 и тяге 2×25. Авиатором надо быть поточнее.

@@user-qj7fu9fp9w сейчас делают лучше. НК 32-02 -- чуть меньше тяга на форсаже (23 вместо 25 т), но больше крейсерская тяга (16 вместо 14 т) и выше экономичность (Тушки летят с НК 32-02 на 1000 км дальше при той же заправке)

I have only seen a B1-Lancer bomber flying with afterburners in person and the sound was incredible. This looks like a Russian version of that. Very awesome aircraft!

@@lial1981 Че ты несешь, В-1 это самолет прорыва и подавления ПВО на низких высотах с огибанием рельефа в конструкции которого использовали радиопоглощающие материалы, Ту-160 это носитель крылатых ракет для стратегических ударов(хотя у него тоже есть системы огибания рельефа, но он слишком огромный и не повортливый для этих целей, кстати В-1 на почти 60 тонн легче и на 10 метров короче и уже по размаху крыла), эти самолеты созданы для принципиально разных целей. Схожи они только внешне да и то не очень

So, let’s assume he was wearing Biker style earplugs (practically invisible at that range) to protect his hearing, you would be absolutely right - and him wearing ear plugs protection is entirely plausible. However; I’m doubtful he was wearing those, as he actually made a mobile communications call with a hand held device pressed to his ear. He also stuck a finger in his opposite ear at one point during the call, presumably to hear the person talking back to him, and to block out the roar of those idling monster jet engines. Ergo, I get the overall impression he was sadly, indeed NOT wearing any hearing protection.

I always loved Russian jets more than any other. They’re gorgeous, sleek, sexy. They perform maneuvers that no other fighter jets can. It’s like watching a ballet. And the bombers as well. Very intimidating look. They outperform any others in their class if you compare. Much love from Brooklyn, USA.

The TU-22M is faster at high altitude than the B-1b, but carries half the ordnance load for only half the range. The TU-95 is 100mph slower than the B-52 while carrying less than half the payload over the same range. They arent even close to outperforming any other comparable aircraft.

@@r0n718 There's only one statistic that matters in combat...survivability. Several TU-22M's were shot down in the Georgian conflict of 2008 by none less than Russian made SAM's. The electronic warfare suite on the B1B would have defeated those or at least warned the B1B crews to not blissfully fly into the trap the way those TU-22M crews did.

By the official specification, the standard acceleration of the NK-25 engine from idle to max AB on the ground, at zero speed, is more than 18 seconds. Just for a comparison, an average modern fighter engine requires around 4-8 sec normally. This is a huge engine, with some oldschool features, like a quite large bypass ratio for an afterburner turbofan engine, a lack of FADEC and a sensitivity of the flameout (because of the incredible amount of air mass flow).

@@axfx8952 Just to clarify my notes, the comparison is not about a fighter to a bomber, but the old versus new technology thing. Currently, by the very latest afterburner monitoring features, for example the UV flame detectors and the extensive FADEC system, the afterburner ignition could be more fast than this old design. It is just about the evolution of the afterburner engine designs, not more.
