Having owned a good many Bang & Olufsen products since the late 60's, the walk through the collection is a trip down memory lane. When Apple introduced the Gen 4 iPod, I personally felt that Bang & Olufsen should have been the inventor, they certainly had the experience with capacitance touch control. Later on I enjoyed the ICE audio processor. Today, I'm retired, almost deaf from tinnitus caused by long haul COVID, so much of what I hear is from memory. But, the deal is I once heard it produced the best possible way at the time, with Bang & Olufsen technology.

Such a nice experience...I would not say that I'm an absolute fan of B&O but I remember, more than 30 years ago when I moved from my countryside to Paris, just round the corner where I'm still living now, there was a huge B&O shop, now of course closed for years. I still regret that I had no money at this time (but I should have gone to visit my banker) and buy a beocenter + the iconic Beogram 4002.

I like the old portable radios. I own a mint Beosystem 10, which is basically a portable receiver with a phono section and speaker outputs. I also own a pair of Beovox CX-50 speakers, a restored Beocenter 7700 with remote, a restored Beogram 4004 modified to use RCA plugs, and a fully restored Beogram 8002, a really fascinating design as the motor has no moving parts. The 4004 is my favorite piece. It was one of those audio products from the seventies when I was in high school that sent me on an audiophile path. The 8002 may be a better table than the 4004, but I just love the 4004 design better. Because of room limitations, none of these components are on display and are stored away. I've moved on to better stuff so I can't display them.

I like to see the Great design of Bang & Olufsen, and their development. I remember when I was a child/teenager in the seventies, I was impressed by the design of Beomaster 1900 (my best friend parents had this masterpiece - just touching it and it changed channel 👍👍). Later on I got a Beogram 1200, my first record player together with a JVC amplifier. I was fascinated by Beogram 4000 and the pickup in the right angle, so I wanted the Beogram 8000 and I had to save money enough, so I could buy it (working as a newspaper delivery in the afternoon). Maybe the fascination of the technics (and my skills in math/physics) that I’m an Engineer today. You don’t always know exactly why you choose to be Engineer, carpenter or electrician…. 👍 P.S. Thanks for giving me a hint to see this KZfaq 👍

My absolute favorit system, and also the one i've got at home, is the beomaster 4400, with the beogram 4002. Absolutly amazing, and i've had mine go through an A-Z restauration, with all new components, pickup, oak wood work and so on. Looks and works like brand new. I enjoy it every single day, and even though its a system from the late 70s, its still great design, og looks absolutly amazing. That aside, WHAT a beautiful collection this is! A masterclass in history, design and futuristic thinking. Thank you for sharing this with us, Steve. 😊😊

I just got done watching the 8000 vs 6000. And I agree, with the caveat that as long as the audio setup is not the cheapest of today’s devices, and they are combined and connected. With the intention to be enjoyed, and thought, put into the sound. The craftsmanship and design of these beautiful equipment. Close your eyes and watch these beautiful pieces of history, being created. A man with his tools beside him. He has in his hand, a tool. His focus, intent, he is working the material into the piece of art, that is in front of you, today. Now, you are looking at the first caretaker, of this creation. They are sitting, listening to the music, just enthralled into the music. Now, it’s the holidays, family, friends, parties. At last, there is a new one. Who is this, and why am I being taken away. Now, we are in another room. There is someone else. They are listening to the music. They have the same look as the first caretaker, because they are enjoying the sounds produced, by the design and engineering. That many people put into it. There is more of a relaxed sound being produced. There is a softness, along with an imperfection or two, when looked at closely. Nothing that a polish, and a touch up, will not fix. Each one of these being presented, has a story, and they all begin with a spark. That spark is the ideal for a better sound. A better sound for one place, not everywhere. It might be for a really large listening room. It might be for a small listening room, one as small as half of an motel room, even one that is portable, and meant to be brought in, then taken. I look at audio setups, wether Bluetooth speakers, or full fledged, latest design and technology. Like food. If you change a set of speakers, but everything else is the same, and adjusting the settings for the new speakers. It will sound familiar, yet different. Even when the capacitors is needed to be changed. The change in them, will change the character of the sound produced. People who don’t know, or don’t care, hear bass and treble. They need to care and be explained what they are hearing. Some of the subtle sounds and nuances, will be overlooked. Just as a non foodie will not notice, the difference between spices, which others would pick up that, a cheaper spice was used. You just got to look at some wonderful pieces. Thank you for sharing. You have a new sub.

It was great seeing the Beogram 4000 there. In the 70s I was a teenager and I had become really good at setting up turntables, all that stuff about tracking force, bias, cartridge alignment is kind of in my blood. Anyway in the 70s of course the Beogram 4000 appeared and that was revolutionary. However I never owned one, but it was the best. I also really loved the Beosound 9000 which is in that collection and the Beolab 5s however I don't think I saw them in that wonderful collection, but maybe they passed by quickly amongst all the other stuff. The open reel tape decks were really interesting for me because I was also very good at setting those up in the 70s and 80s, however I never owned or even saw a B & O one.

Is it possible to use powerlink and the amp to drive passive speakers at the same time in the Beomaster 8000?
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly Жыл бұрын
Hi, Beomaster 8000 with the wood trim doesn’t have Powerlink outputs, connecting active speakers to this unit is possible but a bit more complex. Are you certain that this is the amplifier that you have please? On newer units with Powerlink outputs, you can drive both active and passive speakers, but there may be a large difference in volume between them so this isn’t recommended. Please get in touch at soundsheavenly.com if you need any help with this.

@@soundsheavenly I don't have a Beomaster 8000 yet . The B & O with wood are the ones i prefer . Are there a unit with powerlink and wood trim ?
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly Жыл бұрын
Only the later amplifiers have Powerlink outputs from around 1990 on, the wood trim ended in the 1980s. I can’t tell you what to buy but please let me know what you choose and I can help with cables

B&O needs to get back to more affordable cool designs like in the past. Young consumers don't own stereos because of the cost and boring Bluetooth systems. Their marketing division is lost.

Thanks for the feedback. What design do you think should be an inspiration for B&O going forward?

@@soundsheavenly Just like they did in the past with unique designs. They weren't trying to be like anyone else. Maybe they could engineer smaller amps, intergrated amp with quality Class D chips but keep the functionality and designs cool looking. I have an S.M.S.L intergrated amp with a German Class D chip that sounds great but lacks style. B&O could do that at very affordable price. My amp cost $237 USD. B&O has products that are way to expensive.

B&O designs are still unique in my view, but maybe not to everyone’s tastes…

Their gear from the 70's , 80's ,90's up to c 2011 was the best , Jacob Jensen and David Lewis both design geniuses Designs definitely gone downhill since then imo

That was certainly a high point for B&O design. Sound quality has greatly improved in recent years so don’t write off the new products completely!
