Man, you're spot on about connecting with music. I'll take it a step further and say that Kiss in particular owned kid's imaginations because they were so visually striking, but you could only look at them in small doses (album covers, magazines, brief TV spots), so you always wanted more . Not like today where you can see a band that looks amazing like that and instantly Google all the photos and video you want. My point is that spending time with those album covers while listening to the record was the experience, and we've definitely totally lost that.

I absolutely agree 100% @VideoBob !! The interaction we all had back then with the records, cassettes etc.. was fantastic . These millennials have ZERO idea. lol.. I remember when Prince ( I think it was the record “Nikki” was on ) but the big thing was spinning the record backwards on whatever song it was and hearing Prince’s message.. lol.. If I’m not mistaken it said and I’m trying to quote “The Lord is coming soon, so very very soon” Then it went into a long laugh.. So then everyone started checking every album they had and every song to see if anyone else did the same thing.. 😂 Great times and great memories!! Stay blessed brother!!

I had a classmate in 1975. His mom passed away at when he was 10. His dad was a lawyer for the mob and was rarely home, so he would buy them just about anything they wanted. My classmate was big into music. His dad bought him a $2000 system. It was very sophisticated for the 70s. About 2 years ago, he told me that same system was worth close to $10,000 today. He said the speakers were in high demand because of the sound. I wish I could remember the name brand of the system.

I had the 5000 system with the control panel, I loved it. I repaired the tape deck and cd. The receiver then packed in so I retired it and sold it off piece by piece. I now have the Beosystem 8000, 150 watts per channel into 4 ohms, linear turntable and cassette deck. now that is a beauty. Your system is lovely though, especially with the stand and Pentas.

Bob, pretty cool! Iwas into high end audio in my teens back in the 70s. My buddy and I would shop the used market and ended up with soma really great equipment. Some I still have. I got away from it on the eighties when life caught up... It was a great time and some amazing equipment! B&O was unobtanium. I did have a B&O cartridge. I think they said it was indestructible. My roommate proved them wrong! I think it was just over $100, which was a lot at the time. Thanks for showing us your system. They are really rare. It would be sad if they were lost to history! Let me mention that surround sound killed high end audio. You first saw surround in the high end stores because their customers were the only ones that could afford it. 5 speakers instead of 2 and a 5 channel amp got expensive! The folks that could afford it stopped buying the high end audio. When surround hit the consumer market, the equipment was the cheapest of cheap! Sad really! I did build my surround speakers (because everyone needs a hobby) that helped dramatically! Thanks for making a really cool video!

B&O stuff is nearly always nicely engineered, with some exceptions. The CD players normally fail because of dirty sensors or the drive belts have turned into toffee. It's fiddly to put right but far from impossible. It has been many years since I repaired them but that's what I remember.

The whole system + speakers cost $12,995/- back in 1990. The PENTA speakers had 16x build in speakers and was heavy because each speaker had an Amplifier at the base, basically a monoblock Amp. B&O had many patents MMC cartridge for instance.

This is a good tutorial on getting younger folks to buy an old school component system that are standing in lines on Record Store Day dropping hundreds of dollars on vinyl, that they’re playing on a garbage turntable. Pantera was part of the “CD era” but I’m sure you’ll acquire all their vinyl including “lost gems” like “Metal Magic” and “Power Metal” (yes they need to reissue them) and I don’t think there was ever a Damageplan on vinyl release….

@@RobertMoseley vintage turntable are def the way to go! I have a vintage Luxman, a vintage Dual, and a vintage Marantz. I don't like linear tables for there are way too many electronics to go bad. All my tables are direct drive w/ auto play/return with repeat options. I've went through all of them and lubed the gears, recapped capacitors, replaced with new RCA's, etc. There are also some good vintage belt driven tables out there as well which are offer the least repair issues! All of my units run micro-ridge styluses w/ vintage Shure cartridges. I also run all Luxman vintage preamps and amps which are comparable to McIntosh. No disrespect to your wonderful video. Regadring the comment about younger people not appreciating music, It took you one to two minutes to take the album out, take it out of the sleeve, etc. The new generation just press one button and they are streaming high quality digital music. So while they are listening to music, you are fooling around with sleeves and record players. Again, no disrespect but records are on life support right now.

The difference is, I am fooling around with music that is 30, 40 years old and have listened to it since it was new and will still listen to it in 20 years. Most of those records have been release on every single music formats that have ever existed. The "music" that kids are playing digitally now will be forgotten and deleted and never re-released or re-purchased or re-listened to ever again. That's the point you are missing.
