If was common for great players to play in mediocre teams back in the 90s. Just look at Ginola, Klinsmann, Juninho etc.

Like many others he wouldnt make it in today's game due to bad training and sports science, he had natural talent like a few others of his time but that was when playing came first, some trained as little as possible and could eat what they wanted, drank, smoked, went out the night before games a d their name was first on the team sheet. Nowadays no club would touch them because they couldnt get away with it because you need to be a 24hr 365 day athlete.

It was more so that he stayed at Southampton his entire career and rejected all offers from big clubs, that's the main reason why he's not remembered in the same light as other legends of that time, if he went to a big club he'd probably be remembered as one of the greatest strikers in history, even if his work ethic wasn't as high as some other players

I have to keep the same energy as I do with Wilfred Zaha I'm afraid. It's all well and good when you're at a mid-table team with not much expectations but playing in a system takes too much away from what makes them good. Ball at their feet for nearly every attack
