I grew up watching this show. Which explains the warped sense of humor I now possess. What a great time to be a kid in the late fifties and early sixties...

Soupy and Clyde Adler (voice of White Fang, Black Tooth, Pookie, man at door, etc) were one of the greatest comedy duos of all time, and I'm not exaggerating. Flawless, inventive, charming, hilarious stuff. LR

I was fortunate to have lunch w/ Soupy at the Brown Derby here in LA because my father knew a reporter set to interview him & she invited a few of us up. It was so fun, & I was so thrilled to meet this master of humor who'd had me in stitches for so long! And such a sweet man, who genuinely loved children, altho his "too-hip-for-the-room" show was really for everybody! Godspeed Dear Soupy (RIP), a genius & an American original!

Well, this brings back some really great memories. Soupy was an awesome comedian and his show was a walk through the looking glass into a crazy world of talking dogs, pie throwing and occasional double entendres. As a kid's show, it may be the greatest ever but, really, adults liked it as well. RIP to an American original.

Yeah, I used to walk around school imitating White Fang and would answer questions in class like him and it drove the teachers CRAZY! LOL I even got a makeshift leg/paw and walked around school with it and gestured while I spoke like I was off-camera. Some of the smarter kids liked it, other more stuck-up kits hated it. Too bad for then. They missed out on all the fun. White Fang Rocked!

I swear I can hear White Fang sometimes speak in Shakespearean English, "O thou..O thou..O thou.' He must be a learned dog. He's smart as hell for a dog that is. I like to think of White Fang as a huge Irish Wolf Hound, with unique vocal abilities! Thank you Soupy for your crazy and wonderful show.

First saw Soupy in the sixty's. Loved the knock on the door; usually Frank Nastasi and wind up with Soupy getting "pied".
@fransaykaly66469 жыл бұрын
This was Clyde Adler, the original White Fang, Black Tooth, Pookie, etc. etc., who started on Soupy's show in the early 60s, then post Soupy's WNEW New York gig in the mid-60s. I liked Frank Nastasi, but Clyde was still my favorite.
@RSEFX8 жыл бұрын
+Frances “WINSCLAYTON” Saykaly Clyde Adler was in Detroit with the first Soupy Sales shows, which ran between early 1950's until late '50's. We grew up with those, and all the stage hands and crew became part of the fun, hearing them laugh off-screen. There was never any pretense that Soupy was in a real place, or anything kid-oriented like that. It was really a kind of show for "grown-up kids", and one of the reasons actual kids liked his show so much. (He had two shows running daily in Detroit--a morning and a night-time show-- so we probably got the biggest dose of Soupy than anybody else in the rest of the country.

We grew up with Soupy since we were from Detroit and Soupy started his show there in 1953. He was on every day---in fact TWICE a day since he had his lunch show (later became breakfast show) as well as a half-hour night time show with musical guests and skits (some of which were really hilarious). We even would see him in person (and film 8mm films of him) when he showed up nearby to play softball or do live appearances at various store promotions. Later followed him thru the NY and LA years...and always the same insane nonsense, both corny and hip at the same time! (With Soupy on in the morning, we NEVER watched other kids' shows, like Captain Kangaroo. No one could hold a candle to Soupy. (We started making our own short comedy films, which ALWAYS ended up in pie fights....after which our parents would get on our case about cleaning up all the shaving and whipping cream off of the basement walls, ceiling and floor! Ah, those were the days!)
@community19496 жыл бұрын
We used to watch this with our mom and she'd just absolutely shriek over these skits. And we loved how the camera crew would knock themselves out laughing.

I have been a fan of Soupy Sales since I watched his show on Channel 5 in New Jersey in the mid 60s. I always remember my mom referring to him as "Soupy Salesman." He cracked me up every time he got hit with a pie. Those scenes were very funny, especially with White Fang's grunts and growns.

David Williams No doubt about it. Barney was all mamby-pamby weirdo fun while Soupy was just pure unadulterated off-the-cuff hilarity that this generation just can't understand. RIP Soupy, you will always be the BEST! This show was my best-selling time up later than I was supposed to have been watching and listening with the volume way down where my parents couldn't hear while they slept.
