South Miami is a city in Miami-Dade County with a downtown core, many retail & restaurant options, and a shopping mall known as Sunset Place. I really enjoyed this walk and enjoyed checking out all the different areas of the city. Sunset Place is under new management and hopefully can be revitalized in the future.

Cool video of City of South Miami and part of the City of Coral Gables on the UM side. I moved away from South Miami 21 years ago. Was born in that area in late 60s lived in City of South Miami till I moved out of Florida. How much has changed since I left, you walked past the Ice Cream shop before the Bank of America building and noticed the construction site where the Riviera theater and strip shopping center was is now gone. The Taco placed you pointed too next the bank was Island Water Sport Skate and Surf shop in 80s. Where Whole Food market building is now was a strip stores and Subrageous sub shop and comic book store on corner. The donuts store on corner of US1 and Red Road was a Wendy's at one point. The Sunset Place opened up and replace The Bakery Center. Before the Bakery Center their was Holsum bread factory at same spot where The Sunset Place sits. You could smell the fresh bread all over the area. They sure fixed City of South Miami up again.

Who knew...Main Street USA right here in Miami. Streets lined with trees and sidewalks, storefronts on both sides of the street. I love it, and it's quiet and peaceful. What a beautiful walk, such a great area to to chill and shop at some of the stores. I'm originally from Long Island and I kind of miss the quaint areas of Main Street. Thank you for sharing AK.

"The City of Pleasant Living" is a fitting motto for South Miami, because the area is quite calm here. 🙂 It was enjoyable seeing the different restaurants, and there are plenty of vegetarian/vegan options. 😃 Good to see Barnes and Noble is still operating there, and hopefully, the new management will revitalize Sunset Place. 🙏 Thank you for sharing this relaxing, informative walk, AK. 🤗

Beautiful area, I think of where you came from (NYC) and I think why are so many homeless people in NY, in the cold dreary months, when they could be homeless here. If it were me, I’d start walking now! Seriously, think about that.
