The “young, hip people” was definitely a thing back in the 80’s. They would put on these cringe performances telling us we needed to recycle and avoid drugs so we could grow up and be cool too. We all ended up addicted to drugs as a consequence.

They had it in the 90s all the way to the 2000’s too. It was hilarious, and it got us out of math, and science classes atleast

@@MikeBronson515 I came here to say just that. The 90s and early 2000s had it worse. A bunch of fake boy bands and cartoons telling us to stop doing drugs and alcohol. Programs like DARE were hardcore trying to get us not to do it but failed miserably…

I think that that first clip is in reference to a real situation where a Monsanto (maker of Roundup weed killer) lobbyist Patrick Moore was being interviewed on French television. “You can drink a whole quart of it and it won’t hurt you,” he claims in the video. That sounds like a challenge. When the Canal+ reporter hears this, he challenges Moore to drink a glass of Roundup, which they’d happily produce for him. “You want to drink some?” he asks. “I’d be happy to, actually,” responds Moore. But then … “Not really. But I know it wouldn’t hurt me!” When further pressed on the issue, Moore insists he will not drink a glass of the chemical concoction because “I’m not stupid” and also “I’m not an idiot,” while still insisting it “isn’t dangerous to humans.”

The used to be commercials here from some anti smoking group. And they would try and make it all "hip" and geared toward kids about not smoking. But instead they just made themselves look incredibly lame. Just like in this video.

In the US, cable/SAT is private and is paid for. So, the rules are a bit different. There's a lot more leeway for adult type content. They self-regulate. Live air broadcasts have stricter rules. But even then, someone would have to complain about it before the FCC did anything.
