Natural southpaw here. One of my favs is the Lead trap to lead hook. So the lead hand if it floats higher than their lead hand you can slap their glove down then lunge forward for a hook immediately. Also stepping off to the outside to dodge their jab. Then lead uppercut under their jab straight to their chin.

Literally ..... MY GOD !!!!!! While I'm not a ' boxer ' my son is an athlete meaning he plays little league baseball .....he just had his first taste of karate and he wants to learn how to box. He's 7 years old. Now, while I'm not a boxer I do fight out of the southpaw stance and ...... I'm naturally right handed so you get my drift. I've been watching more videos on boxing basics .....foot placement ..... basic jabs and while he plays baseball, he has good conditioning which will only get better. While I've been more or less a casual observer of the sport, I have a son so I feel it's my task to learn as well about the sport and when I came across this video ......the sky's opened up and I heard harps playing !!!!! Now, my son would fight / box in the orthodox stance and I understand the importance of that and wouldn't attempt to change that but man, as a father trying to teach his son a few basics .......your education is priceless and I thank God I found your channel. I'm a subscriber of your videos and I wish you MUCH success in your accomplishments man. Thank you for your gift of knowledge. Happy Holidays to you and your family and keep up this GREAT work Salaam

I've been realising recently how important these stances are based on orthodox vs southpaw. I'm right handed but seem to take a southpaw stance a lot when i'm countering... glad to know that's a real advantage that i didn't even know i was doing. Awesome vids man, subbed.

Ooh yeah, work you're right hook really really hard, as a South paw if you keep your front foot outside his and keep the dance moving to your right, orthodox fighters are used to having a long time to react to a normal opponents right hook, but if your circling with that foot outside his lead foot you're right hands basically touching his left so hard right hooks hit faster. So you throw hard right hook and left cross/overhand. You might cop a left jab but if he throws a right you're in the perfect spot to keep moving right, take one step back and your out of range

B.D W practice weaving, always watch their eyes. where their eyes are, is where they’re planning to attack next. and yes be quicker. match your left foot w theirs, slip, and hook em w your left. then either upercut or jab with the right. my favorite move to counter that is, 2 fast left hand straights, slip left, left hook, then lean into a jab straight to their nose with the right. its a mcgregor move. works 4 me. gotta be quick with that move though, practice first before putting it into play or you’ll get SMACKED

Just a note, on women in boxing. Most right-handed women are taught as if they were right-handed men, but a woman can generate a lot of power in the jab and less power from the rear hand. This is because women have more space between their hip sockets but less space between their shoulder sockets -- these effect power in different punches (for men too, except that physiology is very rare in men). This means you can teach a right-handed female to fight as a southpaw (and vice versa; lefties can be taught orthodox). This creates a fighter with two deadly hands, as the jab becomes dangerous but the rear hand also has power (as it is still the rear hand, which has power). Women lack in upper body strength, and this can more than make up for it. It's rare to see women taught to lead with their dominant hand because so many coaches are men who learned from men and are used to teaching men. But it's something to think on. I thought I'd mention this all here, as most women are right-handed and this is a southpaw video. Any (right-handed) female boxers out there might consider fighting from southpaw so that the lead hand isn't just a decoy and can hurt the opponent. And the same goes for other martial arts; the different physiology affects both straight punches and hooks.
@elless9730
@elless9730 5 жыл бұрын
Theorist Jeff so- to review, right handed women are often taught the same as right handed men to fight in an orthodox fashion. But in their fighting orthodox, they can generate more power with the jab, but less with the rear hand. So you argue to train them to fight southpaw- because they then will have a good jab, and ‘the rear hand is still powerful because it’s the rear hand’. Is the rear hand not ‘still the rear hand’ in an orthodox position? How have you changed anything here whatsoever outside of making a righty fight southpaw?
@JohnDoe-lj3ph

Theorist Jeff Thanks for sharing fam
@davidcampos2615
@davidcampos2615 5 жыл бұрын
@@elless9730 Okay so he's saying the women should use their dominant hand to have a stronger jab since the upper body strength will generally be lower than their male counterpart in the same division. And because their hips are wider they can generate more power from the rear, so its okay to use their weaker, recessive hand as the rear hand, as it's power will be compensated with the hip turn. Its goal is to balance, not mix max.
@elless9730
@elless9730 5 жыл бұрын
@@davidcampos2615 Ahh, that makes sense. Thank you. Out of curiosity- Why specify this for women? Wouldn't the same balancing effect be prevalent in men?
@davidcampos2615
@davidcampos2615 5 жыл бұрын
@@elless9730 The overall balance is why most right handed people have a left lead. They want their power punch to be the rear hand. Fot example Pacquiao is a left handy so he goes southpaw aka RIGHT hand forward. So his punch punch (his left) is in the rear.
