South West Coastal Path (UK) - ''The Salt Path'' - Solo Hiking (1014 km)!

The South West coastal path is a coastal hike from Minehead all the way to Poole. The lenght of this trail is around 630 miles long(1014 kilometer). This hike became famous because of a book called the Salth Path, written by an English woman called Raynor Winn. In this book she describes how she and her husband lost their house, also her husband became pretty ill. After these events they decided to do this trail. And what she writes is pretty amazing and that inspired me to do this trail. And it was so worth it... I hope I show the beauty of this hike correctly!

Wel humans are one of the most intelligent human beings on earth. And nowadays we live in world filled with routines and structure, that is fine. But human also need a lot of enrichment because of it’s curious nature and intelligence. That last part is lacking and to embrace the unknown even for a little bit is extremely healthy for the mental health. Thanks for the compliment, lovely to read!

A lovely video which I thoroughly enjoyed watching. Very nicely edited too. Having lived on various parts of the SWCP over the years, I share your feelings about the holiday parks & towns but have come to the following conclusion. With everyone flocking to them in the summer, the more remote parts are left for us to enjoy. ATB, John.

You really did a great job! What a trail. I knew it existed so it was nice to get a closer look! I loved the views. Sorry about the holiday park and the military zone! Wild camping is always a bit of a challenge to find a good spot and not to be noticed... And I also agree that if you can participate in something local while on trail, you sure have to participate! I definitely have to put is on my (long) list of hikes to do someday! 😁 A merry Christmas and hopefully in 2023 you'll do some more hiking! Hiking greetings, Kaat

Thanks for the lovely comment it makes me glad to read that :) And yes those things were indeed a very minor con. But for the rest the trail is for 85 a 95 per cent really great.... And yes I might plan to hike another 3 to 5 month soon... If you are gonna do this trail enjoy it :) Have a great change of year and christmas :)

Minehead brengt me mooie herinneringen aan de kliffen, en de fietstocht van Land’s End ernaartoe. ZW Engeland is prachtig zolang je van diefstal gespaard blijft. Mooie film!!! Groeten uit Zweden

Fantastic video. I have walked the SW coast path, but over about 30 years! I too have a dislike of people who can't control their dogs! And yes, the caravan parks are a blot on the landscape!

Lovely to read thank you! How was it 30 years ago? Less crowded than now you think? Or is the hike better because of the improved infrastructure? And a well it is a lovely coast. I cannot blame the people who want to have an vacation holliday house over there. And wel some dog owners they think there dog is lovely. Also they expect everyone else loves their dog, this is not the case....

I started the walk in about 1973, when I was six, but only a few miles here and there on family holidays, but it took me another 30 years to complete! I still walk parts of it now, but would like to do the whole thing again. Your filming reminded me of so many views that had gone out of my head, so it was nice to be reminded. I don't think the parts of the walk that are away from towns and roads are any more crowded than they were fifty years ago, partly because people have become more lazy, and as far as I can see, less appreciative of the natural world. And yes, the dog owners do expect other people to think their dogs are wonderful, but I'm not a fan. In the UK last year there were 22000 recorded cases of dogs causing injury to people, and nine people killed. We have 12 million dogs in the country now, and more dangerous breeds are being bought effectively as weapons. The laws are inadequate to deal with this rapidly growing problem. Anyway, I never carry camping gear on my walks as I just do days out or holidays in certain areas, get a bus or train one way, and walk back to my car, so I can't imagine how you manage to walk so far every day carrying such a weight! Very commendable. Keep trekking Jari, it's good for the soul, and mind, particularly when the sun is out! In the words of Mr Spock..... "Live long and prosper"!

Realy enjoyed watching the whole video. Lovely views of the coastpath and other paths you choose. Also enjoyed your comments and the way you were wildcamping. And what about this special relation you have with sheep 😂. Friends of mine are planning to hike this coastpath as well, so I was wondering if you have a gpx-file(s) available of the track you followed? Lovely to read thank you! No the path is litterly next to the ocean so no way to get lost. And you can also use google maps or map.me you see the entire trail marked along those apps... Wel simple I worked in a sheepflock in the Netherlands I still do voluntary work there in the breeding season. But I don't know I started doing it on the Friese Woudenpad because that trail was really boring I had to do something and since then it sticked I guess.. Lovely suggestion thank you :)

I love in Brixham and I don't understand why people skip to Torquay. There is abit of road walking from Paignton to Torquay but its about an hours worth. Brixham to Paignton is great on the coast. Teignmouth to Starcross is pretty rubbish though.

In this regards views are different. And that is fine... For me overcrowded places with road walking is not something I enjoy to walk.

I agree, that walk is amazing, and it's not really road walking as it's a pavement right next to the sea

@@Le-Abdollen Yes I agree this hike was the best out of the 12 I have done in that 6 month time frame. Just a bit of road walking but for a coastline it is really amazing!

@@Le-Abdollen Yes I basicly skipped all the dune walking (walking in soft sand with an hevay backpack is terrible) and as much urban areas as I could. So it was really amazing!

Never had any lower body issues. Just the feet hurted a bit... And my upper back because of the 15 kg backpack!

I basicly edited all the footages as best as I can and want to. After each part I put them on Yt and at the end when I finished all the parts I thought to myself why not also make an movie version off it.
