Hundreds of people reportedly died during the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca amid scorching heat, according to diplomats and other sources. The death toll for the June 14-19, 2024 pilgrimage was at least 550 as of June 18 and was expected to rise as high as 900. Most of the victims were Egyptians, but many were from Indonesia and India. Deaths are not uncommon at the haj, which often draws more than 2 million travellers to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi government has actively limited the amount of people and prevented millions of people from coming just for this reason. @@mowinoliveira5153it’s a temple. Kaaba, shrine located near the center of the Great Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and considered by Muslims everywhere to be the most sacred spot on Earth. Muslims orient themselves toward this small shrine during the five daily prayers, bury their dead facing its meridian, and cherish the ambition of visiting it on pilgrimage, or hajj, in accord with the command set out in the Qurʾān. I am not Muslim but I myself was curious about what this was. Google from credited resources will be your friend.

the haj date occurs in one of the months of the hijri calander. The hijri calander is like a couple weeks shorter than the regular calander people use so like every year the haj time moves back a couple weeks in the regular calander. So ya basically its not the same time every year.

Who thought that long robes and scarfs were the best clothes for their religion in a climate like this?
@Sandra-1wiq
@Sandra-1wiq 12 күн бұрын
In warmer climates, the more skin exposed to the sun, the hotter you'll feel. Conversely, if you're covered in breathable, lightweight clothing, you'll actually feel cooler. This phenomenon is backed by scientific evidence. Therefore, wearing hijabs can be beneficial in hot weather. Individuals in very short attire tend to feel hotter as their skin is more exposed to the sun. It's essential to stay hydrated and opt for loose, breathable fabrics that cover your entire body. Avoiding black clothing is advisable as it absorbs heat, ensuring you feel much cooler compared to those not dressed similarly. Additionally, there are portable fans available that are similar to those sold near Mecca (or in other locations). These fans can be worn under your clothes, providing ventilation by fanning your neck and helping you stay cool. Both men and women use these to beat the heat.
