When imperial rule collapsed in China at the beginning of the 20th century, the emperor’s Forbidden City home was turned over to the public and transformed into the Palace Museum. Fierce fighting that rocked the country for years after the leadership change posed a grave threat to the palace treasures - considered one of the world’s greatest collections of art and artefacts. To protect them, the Palace Museum director decided to evacuate a large number of items and set them on a 14-year, 75,000km (46,600-mile) journey.

No artifact lost from Forbidden City, but French and British robbed a lot artifacts when they attacked the Summer Palace. Now u can see they either keep those artifacts in museums or selling them in auction.

Actually - it was one of the few spared places... A lot - and I mean, A LOT of other places were destroyed during the cultural Revolution/ great leap forward. So it is a shame that the work put into saving artifacts before was lost later on to some degree

Actually contrary of what this video says, the nearly the entire collection was sent to taipei and was sent back to China step by step from the 90's But it's normal that this vid doesn't speak facts since its a nationalistic propaganda with little accuracy. Giving example the vid says: 1860 French and British invasion. It was not an invasion. China never explain why British and French attacked the Manchu power ( not China ) Several reasons but one major reason was when British sent an ambassador to meet the Manchu emperor to discuss their business problem, the emperor agreed to meet the British but send them into a trap. The british ambassador who was accompagnied with a French official and 40 guards were captured and tortured during 1 month by the Chinese traditional Linchi torture ( death by 1000 cuts). After a month, 20 survivors were freed and given the little pieces of the body parts of the ambassadors and the other dead. The survivors were disfigured by the torture and their own friends couldn'( recognize them. British and French government decided to teach a lesson to the Manchu power. 6000 soldiers were sent to China. Chinese call that an invasion. The 1883 Sino French war : Ancient Vietnam kingdoms of Tonkin and Annam which were vassals of China and signed a treaty with France to become French colonies were constantly attacked, looted by Chinese pirates who were active along the Mekong river. French officials asked China to do something about it, but they didn't. France then sent 3 ships on the Mekong to get rid of the Pirates. China considered that an attack on China and declared war on France with the escuses that France invaded China. The 1900 Boxer rebelion, during the 19th century, Chinese Han Farmers from the north built an army to get rid of the Manchu power which was a foreign power ( not considered Chinese) In 1900 The empress Cixi paid the rebels to change their mind. In 1901 these countryside farmers, assisted by the Manchu power of Cixi, attacked foreigners and the Chinese friends with foreigners living in Beijing. These foreigners were doing business, travels, studies...They killed few hundreds foreigners, men, women, children and around 30 000 Chinese. Powerful Chinese such as the prince Su housed nearly 200 foreigners to protect them from the peasants paid by Cixi. 8 countries sent some soldiers to protect their citizens, Japan, Russia, England ( and India) France, Netherland, Germany, Austria, Italy , in all 18 000 men arrived in Beijing to face the 100 000 rebels and the 70 000 soldiers of the Manchu power. Its the 55 days battle of Beijing. After the battle, each countries decided to have some soldiers sationed in China to keep order and peace. Rui Hao烎壡嗥 in Chinese, nationalists were the 国民党 KMT in Taiwan while communists are the 共产党 who were The ancestors of 中国大陆. The difference was that nationalists wanted capitalism and democracy while the communists wanted communal living 社会主义 共产主义 and a one party rule
@user-wu6xl4wq5q
@user-wu6xl4wq5q 5 жыл бұрын
Except the KMT was not pro-democracy in anyway destroying opposition and keeping a one-party rule in Nanjing. Also their capitalist mindeset was centred around big coorporations and foreign companies. Trade Unions and Worker's Rights groups were persecuted by Chiang Kai Shek's Government.
@wojciechhoppe456
@wojciechhoppe456 5 жыл бұрын
@@user-wu6xl4wq5q then what's the difference between current government and back then? The new government is also a one party rule without any opposition. The government also follows capitalism. And whenever there is a rising of potential protest about rights the protest will be stopped. Aren't KMT and CCP the same then?
@user-wu6xl4wq5q
@user-wu6xl4wq5q 5 жыл бұрын
@@wojciechhoppe456 KMT is a failure and cant even hold power on tiny Taiwan. In fact the Taiwan Govt cant even abide with their own constitution or the KMT founder's beliefs. Whereas, CCP appears to be more Nationalist than it is Communist, like a moderate way between two parties. If Sun Yat Sen saw China now, he would be proud, as he believed in Nationalism first, Politics second. That is the same policy of the PRC, to unify all Chinese people under one banner before enforcing radical political changes. KMT on the other hand, betrayed the Chinese people, stating in speeches: "If you are pro-Chinese Unification then go back to China." This is absolute betrayal to Sun Yat Sen himself, since he believed in a strong, unified China over a China broken by political disagreements.
