Southerly 480 Walkthrough 2019

We had the opportunity for a walkthrough on board of the brandnew Southerly 480, which is a slightly improved version of the famous SY "Distant Shores III", one of my favourite KZfaq channels. The video was made in a hurry at the boat show in Duesseldorf BOOT 2019. Sorry for the shaking and rollercoaster effect sometimes. Just call it "special effects". For the next video we are using a better camera, but this needs more time to cut it on my PC.

Stunning in that exterior paint choice. Beautiful interior, just don't like the split level salon area, too compartmentalized for my liking, so I'm very excited tot see the first Revelation Series boat when it comes out..

How do you access the transom area.?? nothing ever seems to demonstrate that aspect of the yacht.

Hi David, if you google for photos, you will see 2 small steps on the transom. From there you can step on the bathing platform. But you are right, it is definitively one of the design flaws of the Southerly 480. The aft deck is very high to provide the space inside of the boat for the hugh owners cabin. That makes the access to the transom more difficult, especially with a high swell and when you have to enter your dinghy.

cool boat and new style windows shooting quality is fine, but you need a wide-angle camera to transmit the volume, and not dive into the walls

I know, sorry for that. I have a better camera with me so the other videos from the boat show will be better. However, the iPhone is perfect for a "quick and dirty" video from the show, as I can edit it immediately with iMovie and publish it. No waiting to do some editing on the PC.

where are keel , rudder skeg ?

It has a swing keel, so it might be not visible when lifted. It has a rudder, I can swear it.

@@viatormarine yes . i found out. ...keel retracts all the way in..... twin rudders, draw 3 feet...... if you beach, need wait for high tide to back out. .....it is actually ''shoal'' draft. .
