Yeah. I suppose different areas have different ideas and procedures for responding.

HART is funded separately from the rest of the Ambulance Service and all 10 English services ( not sure about Isle of Wight ) have teams that are a national resource .

They provide an ambulance service response and stand by in case any Firefighter's are injured and at all major incidents they have the training and equipment to go into areas of risk that mainstream ambulance staff cannot . They are trained in Safe Working at Height ( in case a crane operator becomes ill for instance ) Water Rescue , BA , USAR , Public order problems such as riots and are used on day to day incidents such as major RTCs and to assist ambulance crews with patients who are in inaccessible locations ( they have tracked and off road vehicles to get to horse riders who fall off and get injured away from main roads ) .

They would have been called and don't ' just turn up ' . If a fire is large enough and there are enough appliances in attendance HART are mobilised via Ambulance Control to standby in case of firefighter injuries . HART are only sent to certain jobs and normal ambulance crews are too busy to standby at big jobs so HART are ideally placed to do that .They are also there in case there is a mass casualty incident .
