Evo covers another 1 of 36 san sau (hand techniques) found within Chow Ga Mantis. Chum Jang (沉踭) literally means sinking elbow and is a helpful in using the compressive strength of the external obliques to push the opponent's bridge downward.

Yes two details u got are correct. Many do SPM wrong. Elbows fist distance away from the body. Parallel forearm is essential to countering traps. These two principles play out very well together during combat.

Good video and please post more frequently! Every couple of weeks would be awesome, and a nice interval for the viewers to practice the techniques.

Cool vid thanks man, I've really liked your sarm bo gin video filmed at night in town, had nice music and video work too and it looked like you had a good grasp of how it worked. Am currently learning chow ga myself but am only beginner level, been doing it for about 8 months so far. It is a struggle though because I had to move back home after starting to learn it overseas and here there is no chow ga schools so I am learning it through online classes plus I haven't been able to convince anyone to train with me either so I have no partner. Just hoping to save enough money to get overseas and learn it better.

thats awesome man, who did you learn from? Where are you now?

I first started learning from my boss working in Cambodia. He only taught me little bits though as he wanted to teach me wing chun and a little bit of hung ga first but he'd said he found chow ga to be more effective in his experience so naturally when I returned to my home country of New Zealand I was more interested in learning chow ga plus I liked what I saw of it online. So I found some online classes taught out of Australia and am now learning through Blue Mantis of Australia who are also part of Sifu Hang Ng of Hong Kong's school of Chow Ga I believe. I am currently in NZ still.

If you have any tips on how to develop that rib sinking power that would be much appreciated. I'd read the chy sau grinding arm exercise can help with that but I probably need a partner to get the most out of that exercise. Plus I am not sure how that helps as the body is not moving and only the arm while doing chy sau? Thanks for all the cool videos man ;)
@deadlypalms

Chy sau trains elbow and rib power without needing to move the body - in fact, float sink swallow spit too. There are single person rib compression chigung drills and I would love to see Evo do a few videos on these too. :)

@@deadlypalms Thanks for the info deadly, I will keep training the chy sau then, plus I have a few other things I've been shown for the ribs, just I am not sure what is the best one to train for this sinking power or how much time it takes to start bringing it out :)

What's that training drill where you put your wrists against the opponent, and you both take turns doing dropping elbow or center line punching while moving in circles?

@@EvosBasics I apologize, I just saw this reply. I was a practitioner years ago. My teacher/ sift was taught forms without the knowledge of names. He was incarcerated with a gentleman out of Philadelphia by the name of “Freedom”. They would meet for several hours train and he would leave my teacher with several hands to perfect. Several months later, Freedom would return and spar with him. Over the course of five years he learned three forms, many hands and an incredibly strong horse. This man was 5’8 165lbs and strong as three men. His chi was unbelievable. Seeing you and several other practitioners has awakened my need to dive back into the art. At 6’6”, it was very difficult to find my seat and have a balanced horse. I want that back. Any assistance you can provide is invaluable. Thank you
