- 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1.5 Cups Light Brown Sugar

- 1 Tbsp Water

All hail the Queen of Yams! I’ve tried this recipe a few times now, and it keeps getting better and better. I’ve even experimented with a few twists, such as adding orange marmalade or apricot jam to the candy, and they turned out great. My baked-yam days are behind me; candied yams are my new go-to side dish. Thanks!

My mother and grandmother make them the same way. They are from Birmingham. The salt and lemon are a must for me as well. I don't eat others candied yams because I grew up eating them this way.

That was my problem too! I was putting raw sliced potatoes, sugar, butter, cinnamon, etc. in a foil pan, baking at 350 F for about 45 minutes to an hour. Now I know they must be cooked on the stove top. Got it!

So , I’m quite new to the cooking thing and trust me I’ve tried candied yams so many times and nothing seemed to work .
