Southern Thailand: Thung Wua Laen (Cabana) Beach Chumpon

Thung Wua Laen Beach was on my radar for a long time. I'd read the reviews and seen a couple of videos so planned the day with high expectations. I intended to have ashort day's ride and stay for a couple of days. Sadly, this wasn't to be as the reality of the beach was a little disappointing. The beach is lovely but the development is less than sympathetic to the surroundings. Consequently, the vibe felt wrong so I chose to push down the coast to Sairee beach.
Sairee Beach is altogether less developed but happily maintains the charm of a lot of the other beaches in Southern Thailand. It made the day much longer than I anticipated and just re-inforced that when bicycle touring it's always best to keep your plans flexible.

I think I've seen coconut heaven. Will usually have tea when riding. Haven't found a coffee that is all that tasty here. Nice ride.

I'd highly recommend the coastline from Hua Hin down to Nakhon Si Thammarat. There are some amazing places that are quiet and un spoilt.

This was a special lovely one. Felt your emotions going up the peer. Must have been something really special indeed (good for showing the pics) ;) I think we (me and Karina) are just under 10 years, but the pull is strong to go back to the islands. Great music btw and to have a monk buying you a drink, that’s truly great karma. So let’s go bananas 🍌

Very pretty scenery and peaceful to watch. What camera are you currently using? The picture is nice and clear. Are you handholding as you go or is the camera mounted to something? Looking forward to many more adventures.

I'm using a GoPro 9 and I use a 3 - 1 tripod mount that is hand held. I like this mount as you can get an excellent grip on it when your cycling single-handed. I've also just bought a cheap used Canon SX620 HS to get some better shots, with zoom, for B roll though I've not used it yet. JP

@@Biking360 thanks JP. Do you have a model of the tripod you mention? I’m curious how this is mounted to your bike and yet you can easily just pick it up for hand held use. I currently have a handlebar mounted GoPro 8 but it vibrates quite a bit and causes blurriness I think. I can’t easily remove it quickly when needed. I see lots of 3 in 1 tripods for sale but not sure how these mount to bicycle. Thanks, Todd

@@hervedelnorte7928 I use the 3-Way 2.0 GoPro tripod arm. However, I think I may have unintentionally misled you as this does not and cannot mount directly onto the bike. I know I used the word 'mount' and not arm in reply to your comment so I apologise for any confusion. My mistake. To be more clear I store the camera and tripod arm in a kettle bag which is attached to my front stem. I use The Water Bottle Holder Carrier Sleeve Cover Pouch Bag which I bought off eBay. It's big enough to easily store the camera and tripod and it's easy to access too. All filming on the bike is therefore done one-handed. The tripod arm remains unextended when I'm filming forward and I extend it out when facing backwards and talking directly to the camera. I hope that helps. JP

@@Biking360 thanks JP. I understand now. I’m a little dense at times. I need to get a bag for my handlebar too. It’s not so easy to film while riding with one hand but I think the result will be better. By the way I like your new intro. I’ve played around with a few but didn’t really like them. I do need to get something like that again just to give channel a bit more recognition I guess. Still need to rename too but not having great luck getting a name. Thanks for your info.

I'm with Old Bum, it's always time for coffee ☕ Many times I've heard cyclists say not to drink coffee before riding or you can dehydrate. I say "weenies " 😃 Jay, why didn't you want to swim in the canals. Lol The second beach did look at little more inviting didn't it? Nice ride as always.

For my money cycling and coffee go hand in hand. The canals I'll leave for you. I honestly love pretty much all of the beaches on this part of the coastline but there's my favourite still to come! Ride safe. JP

Yeah. I think it was all the overdone hype that caused the let-down. Still great for a day trip though. JP

No special restaurant with something special , everywhere same , everywhere the same dirty and over due toilets . Everywhere cats and dogs in the restaurants . Everywhere coke , fanta and icetea same everywhere nothing special . No idea to grow only lazy.
