In this video:
I start with a little overview of the jigs and lures i'll be using for high speed trolling. This is a solo fishing trip so it's going to be a tough one. I have never done high speed trolling before and let me tell you, it is exhausting!
I fuel up at Tavernier Creek Marina and run out into the Atlantic Ocean towards the Islamorada humps. My main goal is to catch Wahoo today. Will I catch one? I start trolling around and manage to pick up some black fin tuna. Yummy!
After lots of high speed trolling I take a break and try some deep dropping over the islamorada humps. It's not long before I put in a nice amount of red snapper on the boat. Too bad they are out of season! I had to throw them back, but that's ok. I will catch those red snapper another day. Luckily I got a black fin snapper for the icebox. I will eat that fish later in the video. I catch and cook on the same day like a true champion
I try some more high speed trolling without too much more luck and then the worst thing ever happens. A massive fishing knot. Oh man what will I do?
Back at home I fillet the black fin tuna and freeze them for another day. I will be making sushi with that tuna later.
I eat the black fin snapper and it was amazing. This was another great catch n cook episode and I hope you enjoyed it!

Big thanks everyone. Turns out the Red Snapper in this video are actually 'Vermillion Snapper'. Once again I could have kept them but released them thinking they were Reds! You guys are helping out a lot here, soon i'll know all the species!

Suggestion: if out alone, get a 20’-ish coiled spear fishing line with clips and attach one side to engine kill switch and one to your belt so if you fall overboard the engine dies and (hopefully) you can swim back to the boat. Also, wear a belt bag and inside it have a PLB and a waterproof hand-held VHF. I fish alone sometimes and ALWAYS have that setup in case I go in the drink I can save myself. Great and entertaining videos man!

Biggest beeliners I've ever seen and this guy thought it was a red snapper and threw it back....... I was like NO DUDE, NO! On a more serious note, you need to operate a little bit safer when you are alone. That kill switch tether needs to be on you when the boat is moving, no exceptions - it could save your life man.

Trolling is best practiced as a team sport. You can tighten a screw near the steering connection at the motor to stop the boat from driving herself. You had a great day. You caught dinner. You’ve worked your ass off, well done.

Enjoyed your video a lot! My wife and I just went through the same trials and tribulations last week, trying to catch some black-fin tuna. We finally got it down, but never did catch any black-fin. We did catch about a dozen Bonitas and some Spanish Mackerel, all fun and most important, we learned a lot about high speed trolling - cheers.

I trim my skirts too, prevents most of the short strikes. I usually add a fresh bait strip. Even a treble hook can benefit from a strip. I seem to catch a lot of Tuna and assorted Mackerel speed trolling even when the Wahoo aren’t biting well.

Helpful to think about the difference between a tangle and a knot. If you treat a tangle like a knot you will create many knots from a tangle. Tangles are like loops inside of loops and a knot is a.....well, it’s a knot. Think of tangles as half knots. Open it up and spread it out and it can usually be resolved quickly. Sometimes once you open it up and spread it a little the tangle will simply fall apart or reveal itself. I’ve always bean fascinated with tangles. Even as a kid to find a tangled piece of string, cord, or even wire was like a fun puzzle to me. Now tangled braided line is like candy to me. Usually because nothing is biting and I have all day to untangle it.

Pretty work and fun video. Just a little tip, especially when fishing solo, hand-lining 50-75' of pissed off wahoo is enough to get the most experienced wire man puckered up and the biggest risk is the line at your feet. Id suggest crimping a loop into that leader (use 4 crimps and two(2) - 3 or 4" pieces of same lb test.as.your leader making two loops and snap your in-line lead to.that so when landing the fish you can quickly un-snap your.lead and.continue to wind-on your leader. If you have any questions about my mediocre explanation let me know and Ill show you a few examples of times I've usef it (i do mine with a #16old salty planer)

hay I'm back - not trying to be a know it all , but have a few tips for you . #1 - keep a small bungee cord on your steering console , when trying to setup your trolling lines just hook it on your steering wheel with a little tension and it will help to keep you going straight . #2 - when you are fileting slide the tip of your knife under the skin with the edge facing out so you are actually cutting from the inside out for your first cuts . It will keep the edge sharp much much longer . Just some of the some of the tricks from when I fished commercial . Good luck & keep up the good videos !

That Yellow-Eye was definitely not overcooked, but way undercooked to my liking !Good job cleaning and sealing the Tuna ! I know you like danger, but going out on the boat in those rough conditions is very , very dangerous ! I would hope you could find someone, ANYONE to go with you as a back up if you either fell out of the boat, or fell inside the boat and knocked yourself out ? STAY SAFE HEIKO ! Make sure you use that safety lanyard to the kill switch, especially when you are out there alone !!!

I'm sure you've tweaked your technique a bit but a couple words of advice: on the trolling lead you should have the shorter end of the cable snapped on the swivel going into into the rod tip, not the side connecting to your shock cord. This way the lead wont swing as much when it is cranked to the rod tip. Also, you should run your shotgun (longbait) off of your leaning post rocket launcher in the middle. Your straight butt rod would also be better for this and the bent butt should be used for the bonito or another wahoo lure Just makes for a better spread.

I trailered all the way down to marathon last year and without any experience I trolled up a 100 pound blue marlin on a rapala 30’ deep diver. You should try them. They are easy to use and they also come in a 40’ diver now. I use them to troll for big grouper in north Florida where I live.

One more tip when you're running those lines all the way to the bottom with 6 hooks or however many you have don't real up as soon as you get your first bite real it up a little bit and stop set it back down onto the bottom you'll probably get three fish or four fish instead of one

@@SouthFloridaFishingChannel It is a nice calm day, compared to where I fish on the east coast of Australia? We get very few that are that calm, usually 20mph is bashing your boat and you so hard. Rare days we get to go more than 30mph

We used to troll off the Texas Coast in the Gulf at 4-8 knots. We mainly used the Boone King 2oz Zig. I’ve smoked Wahoo, Large Kings, etc. off that $8 trolling bait. I’d put one 100y out & the other just behind the engine wash. Try it out where you’re at. I’d love to see how it works. Gold & Silver colors worked best for me. Nice vids! New sub.

I watched a lot of your videos but this is the first time and heard you drop the F-bomb and I've ever seen you get like that I get just as cranky when I'm hungry when you're catching fish when you don't think about eating you there it happened to me once in Flamingo at the lay down on the deck of the boat

Just a thought this is what we do in Washington state when we fought them fish with more than one hook even if we get a hit and a hook-up will real about 10 cranks after we set the hook and drop it back to the bottom and get the other two hooks loaded up so you'll bring up two or three fish instead of just one specially when you're 300 feet or deeper

New to rig up a bungee cord for your steering wheel. I can think if a couple other more permanent method if you know how to drill and tap a hole.

Dude Juicy LOL! I must say that your show is great. You are learning many different fishing techniques and you're doing well. There are many people out their who are trying to learn how to fish for salt water game fish but give up after a couple of fruitless trips. You have persevered you have become a much better fisherman because of it. How you shared about doing something in life and just doing it was quite inspirational not only for me but I'm sure many others. Thank you. What I want to suggest to you was to make sure that you're ready for any fish that come you way. When deep dropping always have a rod rigged for dolphin. That made me cringe when I saw that pod of mahi swim up to your boat and you could only watch them eat your tuna. I fished on several charter boats in key largo and islamorada as a freelance mate. I fished professionally most of my adult life. Always have a flat fall vertical jig, a spinner with a 5/0 J hook with 50lb flourocarbon leader when offshore. Also I know you fish alone alot...... put a kill cord on your ignition and wear a life pack. I enjoy your show and..... you know. .be smart. My name is Erik. Thank you for your show.

Dude, get yourself an AUTO TETHER setup. If you go overboard out there, your boat keeps going in a straight line . . . I fish solo but I wear an auto thether, if I go over board the kils witch is activated. I also wear my lifejacket at all times and have a PLB in my jacket. The ocean can bite!
