We took my boat offshore to drift for mutton snapper. And instead of a snapper catch and cook I was chugging something else at the end for throwing back fish that could have been part of the catch and cook

Heiko the boat problem has to be something with the fuel either the tank is not venting and creating vapor lock or a line is collapsing on itself.

You really need to check that engine for an air leak. Simple to do and only cost you a can of starting fluid or brake cleaner. Take the cover off and spray over the engine( except in to the air inlet obviously)to see if it sucks the spray in somewhere causing the engine to rev. A lean two stroke is not a good problem to have. If it has a manual choke on it you can check when you’re out on the water and it acts up by pulling the choke to see if the added fuel helps the problem. Really need to get it solved.

Idk if you have figured out why your engine is doing that but my old engine did the same exact thing and it was a fail safe puts the engine in limp mode but a restart will be fine all day but it may do it two or 3 times if I stopped and turned it off and on then it would do it again

You need a new fuel line, and or clean the fuel pick up in the tank.

You should always use mono backer before spooling with braid. It will prevent the braid from possibly slipping. If that happens, the spool turns, but the line doesnt.

you know I always hear people say that but in all my 2 decades of fishing I've never backed any reel with mono and I've never had any slipping of any sort
