Tips for trolling BALLYHOO

In this episode I head offshore to give some tips and tricks when trolling ballyhoo. I cover topics such as speed for trolling, how to make them swim properly, and options when it comes to enticing a fish to bite. I also go over how to properly pin rig a ballyhoo, which is one of the most important aspects of trolling real bait. Sometimes artificials just aren't getting the bite. When they don't, you'll need a backup plan, and ballyhoo is the key to success. Hi Mickey, it was fun having Avi out with me, he enjoys fishing and a good boat ride. I'm not much of a bait guy, but I think having this skill, can only help when artificials aren't getting eaten. Hi Heath, just want to thank you for your video series! There is no doubt all your tips & techniques have made me a much better angler. I fell in love with the Florida keys many years ago, and for the past 10 years I’ve trailered my boat to Islamorada for a month of fishing each year. There are so many species and ways to fish that I was pretty much overwhelmed and guessing until I discovered your excellent series. I hope someday I’ll run into you on the water! Yes I typically use a size 7 snap swivel with a coast lock

How long may I deep freeze ballyhoo for trolling bait, and it still be effective?

Up to 6 months. The problem occurs really, when you thaw and refreeze multiple times

We can use mullets with that rig?

No. Rigging a swimming mullet is somewhat similar, yet entirely different. the spine has to be removed and the hook and sinker are rigged differently.
