If England had mirrored the Spanish formation, remembered to bring a fit left back, picked Gordon, realised Rice isn't a number six, not picked two players to play as number tens, blooded in an alternative to the non existent Harry Kane and actually kept at playing the 4-3-3 formation, then I believe there would be a greater cohesion amongst this team and it would've at least worth watching. More often than not, this tournament has been a painful watch for England fans and that is down to Gareth Southgate and easy draws not withstanding, he should have gone after the last World Cup.

Robbie correction: England got to the semi-final in 1990 with Sir Bobby Robson. Italia '90. Against West Germany, went to penalties. Pearce and Waddle missed. Some people are celebrating, yet they should hold their horses and be careful what they wish for. Southgate has raised standards and expectations. Under Southgate England has gone deep into tournaments. There is now an expectation to win and het to finals. If the next man doesn't qualify or get out of the group-stage, people will be crying out for Southgate in a few years time! There will have to be pragmatism at times, not all teams can merely be turned over. In terms of the new manager: If English, has to be: Eddie Howe or Carsley. If non-English: Klopp (though doubtful he would ever take, as he wants to relax, so no idea why his name is being constantly thrown into the mix). No way Lampard, Rooney or Gerrard. They have poor man-management and inter-personal skills. No way: the Argentian Pochettino.

I think Southgate has been unfortunate. If we had the same squad that lost to Italy we would have won this tournament. We had players injured and completely fatigued, we also had players who it was their first major tournament. Not being able to call apon players because they were injured cost him this tournament also the fact the media put so much pressure on our players, makes it even harder. Now we will have to accept that its going to take the next manager some time to get the team he/she to where they want them to be. As soon as I saw the game against Iceland before the euros, I didn't think we would get out the group because how fatigued our players looked. The fact is he did extremely well to get them to the final.

England will flop at the next world cup. I think that because they won't be able to play in the heat in America, especially as many games will be earlier in the day due to the time difference. It'll just take one game like the one vs Spain where they're chasing the ball for that to happen.

Calling it now: We appoint whoever after Southgate leaves. Qualify for the World Cup with great expectations of potentially winning it and playing attractive football. Fans and media cry for Southgate to come back and then leads us into the next euros. But thank you for the good moments Southgate ❤

England can qualify for tournaments, they can get to quarters, semi's and finals. The job has been to get a trophy since 1966 so effectively they need a manager that can win a trophy with a style of football that doesn't stink out the stadium. And this is the impossible dream. Is English national football attractive....hell no. Spain are the benchmark for how international football should be played at the highest level, possession football, precision football, dictate they play. etc etc. It's not a shock when England lose at the business end and that is the problem
