Southwest Roadtrip Part 1 with the Nikon F100 + Ektar 100

4 жыл бұрынOn this episode of Focal Collective, Mike Lindle shoots Kodak Ektar 100 with his Nikon F100 film SLR using the Nikkor 35-70 AF f2.8 lens. As he lives out of his car/tent driving from Albuquerque to LA, Part 1 of this 2 part series shows off the scenery between Albuquerque and Nevada. Watch for a behind-the-scenes look at the photos taken with this film stock while hiking the American Southwest. Ektar 100 is a great film choice to show off the beautiful color saturation in travel photography. See how this 35mm film stock performs among the diverse landscapes!

You're the first KZfaq film photographer I've seen who stitched together multiple film images to make a pano. Good for you. When using my DSLRs, I like to exposure bracket my images to optimize the details and colors in the highlights and shadows so I have been thinking of doing it with scanned film images as well. As you know, film doesn't have nearly the dynamic range of digital. I hate using up expensive film but think it would be worth it when photographing an amazing place like Monument Valley or Yosemite.

I started going to Horseshoe Bend in the 1980s, when it was still a little dirt parking lot and a rough trail over the hill to the location. It is surprisingly difficult to get a really good shot of the featured river, bend and mesa. That's because, for all of its exotic appearance, it is really just a big hole in the ground, into which light falls irregularly. Weather, time of day, and the seasonal angle of the sun all mix into a fixed composition which allows almost room to maneuver (and less so today). By comparison, the slot canyons are easy.

You mentioned that you only have modern day Nikon wide angle glass. If that is the case it will work beautifully on the F100. Love the video.

+Brock Burlando yes! Unfortunately I switched my digital system from Nikon to Sony and no longer have my 14mm f/1.8 sigma Nikon mount lens. The only Nikon lens I kept is the 35-70, which is still an amazing lens

Great video! I just discovered your channel and was wondering how you captured those timelapses, you mention a 10 stop ND filter, but what camera and how did you record it? I haven't messed with filters yet and I guess it was super sunny so stopping down the lens didn't help at all, but would love to know more about the process. Keep it up and nice work!

Hi Tony, all the gear used is linked in the description! I shot the timelapse on the mefoto tripod, sony a7iii (with in-camera intervalometer), and put the 10 stop ND on my 15mm Loawa f/2 since monument valley had harsh light (high noon sun) - color corrected in Lightroom and rendered to video in Premiere! Glad you enjoyed the video!

it's a great camera and I love that it runs on normal AA batteries! The lab I brought the film to uses a Noritsu scanner, one of the other Hosts Drew is working on a scanning video, he devs and scans at home

Thanks! I was shooting aperture priority and usually range f-stop from 5.6-7.1 but low light 2.8
