The first law of holes, or the law of holes, is an adage which states: "if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging". Digging a hole makes it deeper and therefore harder to get out of, which is used as a metaphor that when in an untenable position, it is best to stop carrying on and exacerbating the situation. And this guy has definitely got himself stuck in a hole of his making.

This is the court system attempting to help someone within their legal bounds, but he just doesn't know how to get out of his situation. "I'm a product of my environment". I've never quite been able to articulate the thoughts I have on this sort of statement. I guess it's because that's the sort of argument you would expect someone else to make on your behalf - not one that anybody with a modicum of self respect or pride would make. It betrays a lack of responsibility and accountability for one's actions to a cynical degree. As I said, I certainly can't articulate it succinctly.

I wish they still had things such as a hardship license. It is a downward spiral of not being able to work because you don't have a license. Then not being able to afford to make the car legal because you cannot work. It is truly is a crime that effects people with a low income mainly. I'm sure there are spoiled people who don't feel they should have to pay to keep their car legal out there. It's just hard when you have to decide whether to get your car inspected or feed your kids. That is why I wish they still had the hardship license option. Only for people of low income who have a good record otherwise, and of course there is no DUI involved. I agree completely with you concerning some people becoming sovereign citizens as a last ditch effort born of desperation.😊

Well said Tiff! "Digging oneself out of a hole" as most sayings bare truth if we just pause long enough to gain wisdom from them. Agenda is the common denominator I feel. And true agenda is usually hidden amongst a tangled web of lies. And the lies are there to mask our "Sin". Sin being our wrong doing. Wrong doing equals, breaking the laws of the land. And this line of thought goes much much deeper, into the very soul of mankind. So to keep it simple, Love the neighbor as yourself. God's Law isn't so bad after all.

Yeah you can tell when the defendant is talking that he's got much bigger problems. When he's talking about living out of his car it makes me think about homelessness issues. A lot of people might not agree with this but I just think a lot of stuff like this would be solved if we could give people like this a place to live so he'd have a chance to turn it around. I mean sure he probably made some mistakes that got him here but when people have no real way to turn around their lives they turn to stuff like this just because they have no choice.

Here in Texas I lost my license because of nonpayment of our stupid surcharge on traffic violations. When I first started looking into getting it back the top 10 search results were sovereign citizen crap. Luckily for me I chose to get it back instead of listening to the sovereign bullshit. Thats how these people get drawn into it. It appears to be a simple solution to all their problems

It sounds like he should just cancel his contract with Corporate Entity State of Michigan and things would be much better for him. Obviously this entente has not worked out....

He's feeling it's not fair to have to do what everyone else does! Poor judgement on his part got him in the situation he's in, and now he's stuck in the gooey mess he's made of his life.

Judge Middleton is back *Yay* It gets me how these sovereign citizens think the answer to getting out of a hole is to keep on digging. The ADA's reaction to the words "sovereign citizen" was priceless, she looked like she just sucked a lemon ! Have a great weekend Mike, stay safe & keep on smiling.👍 🦘.

My sense is this defendant has more self-awareness than the usual run of malefactors. Just a guess, but I think it is dawning on him, as it has on us, that his problems are ones he has chosen for himself. I think it likely he wants to change himself, which is the first step toward leading a decent life. And so the judge, the DA or ADA, and many of the people in this comment section, would like to give him a leg up. At the same time, the community is bearing costs for his behavior and it is manifestly unjust that he simply be let loose to bear no ongoing responsibility while the community has no such out. Further, if the sovcit fraud had been countenanced, his situation would be worse. His liberty would be based not on his changing himself, but on a falsehood.
