@@potatolord2196 haven't heard of that but I suppose it is possible. How would leaning into it make you flinch? Good training to not flinch is have your buddy randomly load in snap caps to your mag to flinch train and also training clear malfunctions. :)

@@rustyshackleford1697 Mostly because it is less consistent, you won't have the same trigger flinch but you get used to pushing the rifle forward. The amount of practice it takes to get a consistent position isn't realistic for most, and it doesn't work well from anything but standing.

Miss being able to buy ak's and ar's. Illinois unfortunately bit the big one at the start of the year and banned all assault style weapons. Can't wait until my daughter is 18 so I can get out of this shitHole demoncrat state. Can't even buy a damn sks with a adjustable stock or use the ak mag conversion kit Because it's considered an assault weapon now. Smh.

First of all, USSR soldiers were trained to shoot in laying down position. It gives more control on the weapon and makes the shooter smaller target 😊

I believe the slant break has always been there. Its design is to counter the recoil impulse not by the round but by the mass of the bolt.

The slant break is for shooting prone as well, it directs the gas upwards meaning less dust is kicked up when fired.

1. That's just a standing shooting stance. 2. It works just fine for semi-auto shooting. 3. Any rifle, without some form of recoil compensation, will rise when fired on automatic. Especially higher calibers like 7.62mm. Automatic fire is not generally used, except when assaulting a position(particularly when clearing a trench) or in dire defensive need, e.g. final defensive fire. At that point, you aren't going for pinpoint accuracy. In fact, Soviet troops were usually taught to fire from the hip with short controlled bursts, when assaulting positions. You can see this in many old propaganda clips of Soviet training exercises.

My father in law bought a military surplus SKS that came with the original Chinese instruction manual and he wasn't able to read any of it but there were a few pictures and diagrams including one that showed the gun being used to shoot and bayonet paratroopers

I found aiming low at the rifle range actually helped with pop up targets on the Army’s qualifying course. I know for a fact I skipped a few bullets on the 25 and 50 M targets. I would think that would still do serious damage to any enemy, so I morally accepted all of those hits.

My brother had an ak and it really shocked me how much recoil it had. I was thinking it would be a little more than an ar-15 but after a day at the range it was like I used a shotgun. This was semi auto so I can only imagine how ferocious a full auto ak is.

The Ak-47 was created by Mikhail Kalashnikov after World War II. Originally, Mihail was a tank soldier in WW2

He stole the design of Bulkin AB 46 and Hugo Schmeisser finalized it into AK 47. He didn't 'create' a thing.

@@serbratYeah but the bulkin wasnt a very good service rifle and was tested side by side with the AK47 and lost the soviet durability test. Gun was deemed a failure. You saying stuff like he stole the patent when in reality Russia encouraged the designers to work together and use each others idea for a greater Russia.

Soviet doctrine held that the AK was a submachine gun, not a rifle. So the techniques and tactics for it were based on that. Accurate fire was not a major concern. American doctrine was the exact opposite for the M16 despite the 2 weapons being roughly equivalent in capabilities.

It's not because AKs hit high and muzzle rise. It's called a battle zero where aiming at the belt buckle will result in good hits from 50m out to 400m and they've been using that since the Mosin Nagant.

We had similiar official shooting stance in the Finnish military in early 2010's. Finland uses an AK-variant called RK62. The official grip was rather similar and it told that you should have a stance where your legs are straight and left foot a bit front of your right foot. It was extremely awkward, unnantural and unstable position. Our trainers insisted that we used that form when shooting at the range. In real combat exersices I tended to hold my own, more natural and way better stance with much better accuracy.

All select fire rifles are designed to be fired primarily in semi-automatic. All select fire rifles will experience muzzle climb when fired on full auto. Full auto is not for precision aiming, it is to lay down suppressive fire.

Recoil doesn't matter at cqc, that automatic 7.62x39 machine is ripping thru any and everything. It's why the GI's were outgunned in cqc with vietnamese guerillas with Norinco aks. Absolutely different breed of firearm

My brother is a Marine. He said during some kind of 101 into foreign battle field weapons that when learning about the AK they were told aim at the feet. This way when it inevitably rose with the recoil you would give the enemy buttons all the way up his body

@@liordagan9342 that is a myth there is no record anywhere of NKVD blocking detachments shooting retreating soldiers. The closet thing came from a memoir of a rifleman who was doing scout work and got shot at thinking he was a German sapper. The point of blocking detachments was to arrest deserters and act as rear guard incase of a german offensive. The only time someone was executed from retreating was if a officer or high ranking NCO incident a retreat without authorization. Even then he was more likely to be sent to a penal battalion or demoted or both. I urge you to actually attempt to take 5 mins to do some very very simple research

the main thing about the soviet style grip is that you keep your dominant arm's elbow outstretched as opposed to keeping it close to your body. It may offer more stability for a less experienced shooter, but in return you expose more of your body, and in my experience it requires more arm strength. Hope you learned something!

I have experience with full-auto AKs. Rented one from Battlefield Vegas a few years ago. Using it on semi auto is fine. But on full auto, it's easier to fire in short bursts. Because it tends to climb a bit more than the AR-15. It's probably one of the reasons why the Soviers switched to the 5.45x39 cartridge.

yes and no, they main reason it's because unlike AR15, the firing mechanism and the barrel it's not straight in line with the stock, so it naturaly pivot upwards due to recoil. meanwhile AR recoil push straight backwards against shooter shoulder

The tendency to lift during use is not the only problem, the length of the magazine makes it very difficult to stay low behind cover.... But the reliability and easy maintenance and inexpensive production costs has made it the most used weapon in the world..

Three round bursts along with tracer rounds are the best tools for accuracy with the AK-47, SKS, Kalishnacov, Dragonuv, and Romanian SKS.

Both my grandparents were serving in cold war red army and they were shooting semi auto 99% of the time, unless you had RPK or PKM Full auto was intended for WW2 like frontlines to produce maximum volume of fire across horizon

AK47 is. A 30 caliber weapon. Cartridge is roughly equivalent to 308 Winchester. Recoil is an issue. That's why USSR changed to AK74 in 1974 that fires a shell equivalent to the M16/M4 round with significantly less recoil.

It wasn't due to recoil it was because the Soviets concluded it was better to wound a man than to kill him. Due to the immense cost of taking care of wounded soldiers, rather than dead ones which gave birth to the AK74 and the 5.45x39 cartridge.

I would have to disagree with the .308 winchester statement. 7.62x39 is a significantly less powerful intermediate power cartridge, 7.62x54r is the much closer, full rifle power cartridge to the .308 winchester/7.62x51

@angryewokadam5419 Debatable it was designed to tumble not penetrate armor. Standard 7n6 rounds have a mild steel core but are not considered AP rounds. Your statements are a little vague. What are you comparing it to the 7.62x39 or 5.56x45.

Keep in mind the muzzle device. Russia was okay with a muzzle that gave away positions because it worked well and they had lots of warm bodies.

@@redvor2486 Well I mean all you have to do is ask a Ukrainian, let alone just about any older Baltic or Slavic person what a joy is was to live under the hammer and sickle comrade. It's not propaganda to admit the fact that the only person to kill more of his own people intentionally in modern history was Mao Zedong. Or how like aside from some exaggeration on battle tactics, the meat grinder metaphor isn't that far off, especially considering the documented disregard for civilians on both sides of the battle lines. It's not American propaganda, or if it is it doesn't make it less true man. The reason people believe this is because it happened I'm sorry to say.

47 is only a series of prototypes as were AK 46 and AK 48. The earliest ones issued were just called AK and AKS with different designs (type 1 2 or 3).

It helps if you chicken wing your trigger arm. Makes a big positive difference in accuracy. Helps control muzzle climb.

It helps vertical recoil a bit but hurts your lateral recoil control just as much, something the AK is supposed to have a lot of.

The AK was (at least originally) intended to be used primarily with the selector on full-auto. Soldiers were taught to primarily fire in short, controlled bursts.

My dad was a marksman with an m16 and he told me that the best way to control it was to know which way it climbed...he said up and to the left, so you apply downward pressure the opposite way with the hand not pulling the trigger. He could hit the target with a tight grouping from a 3 round burst at more than 400 yards.
