Welcome back to Space Engineers Survival 2024! In this episode, we're setting up a complete automated mining operation using PAM (Path Auto Miner) script! The AI ships go off and mine their ores on their own, drop it off at a central refining outpost, and a transport ship brings refined ingots back to the main base completely autonomously.

You forgot to have the AI flight block lock orientation to the horizon/gravity field, that's why it keeps wobbling and rolling in the air...

PAM actually can create a shuttle as well. I mainly use it as a way to transport items between the main ground base and space base before I jumped to a new location.

Lothian is pronounced like loathe (as in to hate) + Ian (like the name) it's an area of Scotland which seems to be a theme in the parrallax names

I haven't used the AI blocks recently but I believe one AI recorder block can do your complete job of flying back and forth between bases. You can also set up a toolbar action to add a way point so you can manually add just the way points you need. You can add actions to each way point in the recorder block to do things like lock a connector and it can be set to start the whole sequence again. To avoid the problem of the container not getting to the threshold to launch, just use a timer instead. Let the ship stay connected for a certain period of time and then trigger the take off. It might get full, it might not, but at least it will continue to move stuff.

There is a keyboard short cut that will take you directly to the remote connection screen. I believe the default is Shift-K. Saves you a click and a little time.

I have an idea for a mini series you could try: you are only allowed to fly ships with one direction of thrust (rovers and any other kind of ground vehicles are also disallowed). The goal of the series would be to successfully fly to and land on the moon.

@@wehappygamers4206 Yes, but I was actually intending for the focus to be more on flying in the planet's atmosphere. The moon landing would be a final challenge to mark the end of the series.

I mean this is exactly how I played my first 20 hours. I also played my first 20 hours with no speed limit. I landed on the center of the moon.

I like the idea of having little helper drones flying by. I think you should add a defence block to each one and set a flee location in case an enemy shows up. I never used the PAM script but it looks very interesting and efficient. Keep up the good videos and maybe increase the frequency 😊😂

really like the episode!! fun seeing the PAM and how it is used. Can you transport the fuel form the military base to main base? i imagine just transporting the ice would be easier!

Yeah I messed with Pam. It changes the way it works depending on the tools you have equipped. One of them is a shuttle that you can setup to pick up cargo and drop off cargo. I believe even fuel. But with the fuel you could use a switch block that connects and disconnects when your at certain places. I used it for ice transport. But I’m sure you could for hydrogen/oxygen tanks.

You should try setting up a coasting feature for your flying ships. What you do is get a little elevation and then toggle off your backwards thrusters. Tilt slightly down below level and your ship will coast down hill using only the power you need to hover.

I think it's time for a fighter that you can hop into for emergencies, maybe some piracy as well to spice up the episodes so it's not all building

you can setup PAM for wait until all trash has been dumped to maximize your miner inventory to only bring ores. There are a lot of others options too that you can set like a minimum charge on the batteries. And use PAM for freight, it’s as simple as it can be to setup.

I used a 2 recorder cargo ship before, I had one handle take off, flight, and landing one way. Then I had the other one handle the opposite direction. I also used 2 timer blocks to handle the timing between them.

It would be cool to see a large ship auto miner that uses the ice to fuel itself, that way it doesn't fill up completely with ice and come back immediately. Or once you get to space, have one that goes around mining and auto refining everything before coming back to the base

I think that if u ever make any more combat drones you should paint them brown and call them the battle-beans and the drone carrier could be called the "mother-sip"

I think that PAM works best with Plunge Miners- IE, mining ships that go directly above an ore patch, and then descend downwards on top of the ore.

Yeah I got that impression as well seeing how PAM is configured. I do prefer the straight on mining ships usually but if they don't work out, I might make a second set of them that mine straight down.

@@AnonNopleb Hey, nice seeing again aswell. Yes I bought it and gosh darn I'm addicted! So many goofy moments crashing rovers, crashing miners (did that last night chunck full of ores.... underestimated the time to slow down), hitting objects while flying with the jetpack and dying... loughed hard at all of them tho hahaha Exploded my medkits on day 1 and was affraid of dying and losing all of my progress hahaha. No worries (about the comment) YT does that sometimes.

@@AnonNopleb I'm still getting used to controls and mechanics. After I go to space, I'll see into adding locations, enemies to fight and stuff like that. Aside from the ocasional drops form the sky, there's really nothing to look forward to, when you're finished with building stuff, upgrading tools and such.

@@fernandogouveia2924 Glad you like this game! I was hooked as well after getting introduced to it by a friend of mine. You might want to look into adding Splitsie's "Assertive Combat Systems", they add encounters on planets as well. Those are a bit challenging, but not too punishing. You should bring some gatling turrets though, because those encounters spawn some pesky but fragile drones that are hard to aim at with fixed weapons.

@@AnonNopleb quick update: finally managed to find silver and built a med bay. Enabled encounters and enemy NPCs to fight and get attacked by, building defensive turrets, will build and attack ship and/or drones to fight the NPCs hehe.

You can use PAM on your main base! 1. Make sure that your antennae have the PAM tag. (I'm not sure that this step is really necessary but I did it and it works fine) 2. Have a control seat with the PAM tag [PAM:1] and the proper arguments. 3. Set the broadcast channel in the custom data in the programmable block on the ship as well as on the base. A. It should look like this on your ship. Enable_Broadcast=true Ship_name=(the name of your ship) Broadcast_channel=1 B. It should look like this on your base. Enable_Broadcast=true Broadcast_channel=1 To be able to tell the ships to return or continue and check their status set all ships to the same channel. Use different broadcast channels for different mining outposts. I hope this helps!

There is a mod you should try. Textured Build States. Does exactly what it say on the tin. Its pretty awesome and really should be in vanilla.

I would have just put all of this into your main base. It would be more efficient and easier. Then I would tear down the other base for material and use it on Cafene.

Just an FYI, the LCDs can be flipped in their settings so you don't need to grind it down and replace it if you put it on upside down.

I like how the bits are still unpainted, it's like battle scars Also I'd be careful with blueprinting active PAM drones, I think you might end up blueprinting the active job too and have the thing immediately try to fly off as it's built

You might want to add another battery to your mining ships as you were red lining your power just flying it from the garage to the military platform and it was empty. If too many thrusters need power, one battery can't supply enough power to give all of them the power they need. It can be okay if it is only short bursts, which is what was happening when you first flew it, but any extend periods of red lining and the ship will start to fall or fail to stop.

Good point, maybe newer iterations of PAM ships will have more battery power. For the current ones, they seem to be doing alright for now so we'll see how long that lasts!

I have the opposite approach to miners. I build them with at least 6medium cargo. Usually 15 cargo (3rows of 5) so I can make it a vertical 9 drills and 6 atmo. Smaller miners loose so much battery flying and drilling they spend more time charging

That's another way to do it! It's probably more efficient cutting out all those trips back to the refining outpost. But I do like seeing the ships flying back and fourth for the life it gives to the area!

for block direction if you have buildinfo you can use ctrl + = (en tous cas c'et ça pour moi) et faire passer des overlay qui montre différente info y compris la direction d'un bloc Also did you notice your med ba on the outpost is not connected to the conveyor network Isn't there a set up on the recorder to do the reverse path?

U just start Pam mineing job from the top of ground in u let Pam drill down to it to go bigger and better add sorter and have it get rid of the stone and just keep the good ore

That would be really cool! I thought about making some sort of automated tram just to ferry the ingots back to the main base but wanted to use the AI stuff. If that somehow crashes one day maybe we'll replace it with a tram!

@@FenlamourGaming there's an old tutorial video on my channel explaining basics of mining ships and welding ships that's part of the space camp series. As for straight down mining ships, I'll need a tutorial myself lol. I've never delved into that type of ship. Maybe we'll make one in this series!
