The new Signal update is here! “Signal” lays the foundation for a new era of Space Engineers. 2024 will be a year of exploration, battle, and survival. This update focuses on our framework for a new standard in player versus environment.
Signal adds new choices to your creative arsenal with new blocks, specifically created for this occasion. With this new set of blocks, your remote automation can act with an entirely new level of autonomy. Where the wildly popular “Automatons” update added remote mining operations, automated drones, welding assistants and so much more, “Signal” empowers these systems to communicate! Reactive updates, straight-to-chat, as well as complex systems communicating over multiple ships, stations, or any combination are now possible!

@@dragunkod Yep, and the old asteroids skybox. Crazy how far the game has come since then! I remember the inordinate hype around planets, it was really ahead of it's time. Now planets are kind of normal, but it didn't used to be like that

Before, you could also claim. Hacking more than 50% of the blocks on the grid. But it would actually be better. Because I usually make the hack very slow on the server.

@@SharkStrikeAC Change is for PCU - authorship, not for control - ownership. It solves NPCs not spawning after you pirated all their PCU.

it doesnt look like its being credited anywhere but the ship shown at 2:40 is one of my designs, you can see it by looking up SM-100 Orca, or just my workshop!

I also noticed they used that work platform from someone else too. I think it was called something like the brahmin work platform if I remember correctly. They just changed it from atmo thrusters to ion. Pretty neat.

Temporary crates is kinda busted. I ground out a small grid reactor, the uranium went into a temporary crate and SHOT AWAY into the distance at max speed because it spawned in clipping into the vehicle. MY URANIUM T_T if it is only 1 type of item, with a low volume, why does it spawn into crates at all??? if its less than 1000kg, and only 1 type of item, just spawn the item instead of the crate. This would prevent my stolen uranium from getting blasted away towards the horizon by clipping bugs Thank you for coming to my TED talk

The updates are showing a lot of promise for sure. I've already DL'd the DLC and waiting for the MP server I play on to update. But I cant wait until the purpose of Exploration/ground based engagements are a thing. Ai_Enabled/bots are a really cool touch when you encounter NPC grids to try to salvage/take over/etc. Btw, binoculars and longer range rifles (with scope) would be nice too..there are already stable mods for this that should be a simple addition to the baseline of SE.

The game renders out to 3km as a limit. Longer range rifles are literally not helpful for anything the ship that brought you to the area could have done already. Keep those things as mods, a handheld sniper in space engineers adds/fixes nothing imo. I fail to see the gameplay difference it would offer.

@@lunarhalo6977 Theres a setting in the sandbox-condig.sbc where you can set the simulation distance to anything you like. On my server I set it to 50KM, so yes rifles with longer range would be useful. Generally handheld equipment should become more useful in SE.

I put neatly 2k hours into this game. I don't have the time to spend on the game anymore, but I do believe this is probably the best lego-like space sim, and I will purchase the DLCs if only as thanks to a game that cost me me €17 for hundreds of hours of playtime back in the day.

Very nice, a sleek trailer as always and I'm liking the new blocks we saw. I'll be curious how the despawning changes work with modded NPC factions and whatnot, since that's the only change that made me take any pause.

I would love to see a LINK Block, that Links the main Control Seat to Subgrid Wheels and Trusters, maybe Give option to name the Control Seat and have Blocks you can type in the name of seat to link it to. Or etc ... Love to see a Simpler way to add Jpegs to Screens

The grid claiming sadly isn't what I was expecting, it's literally only about PCU, not ownership it seems, I was hoping they'd made claiming salvage easier than grinding down every damn block with a computer in it to "hack", should be easier than building from scratch but it's just a pain in the ass at best.

🙂This update makes carriers more practical since now we can command drones to go after different sub systems or ships on command, fire missiles, regroup then orbit the carrier and recall them with a touch of a button. This is made possible due to the action relay!

Removing batteries should just give you "Dead power cells" which can still be used to build batteries, but the battery will just start with no power.

Yeah this looks good, but am I the only one who will miss the scrap metal debris and container contents spilling out? It really added to the sense of damage and explosions. Now we get a loot box and no debris..
