I think people concerned about the disruption to wildlife should consider just how large the Refuge is in relation to SpaceX's footprint, even if it were tripled - it's small.

Elon is probably moving essential headquarters personnel to Starbase at Boca Chica, Texas. Maybe 100 persons or so. These people would be tasked with managing the production ramp up in the huge, new one million square foot Starfactory. IIRC, the near-term goal is to manufacture two Starships per week. They would operate out of the new five-story office building now under construction adjacent to the Starfactory.

This report would have been Much better if it had looked at Elon’s last “move from California to Texas” - for Tesla. ONLY the Tesla Headquarters-the smallest part of Tesla in California - moved; all the factories not only stayed, but, expanded; and as has been reported, Tesla now employs more folks in California, than before. Keep in mind, Elon has NOT made a mature business decision; he’s had a political hissy-fit. And Elon didn’t say he was moving SpaceX HQ to Boca Chica; he said he was moving it to Texas. He’s technically CEO- tho, in reality, he spends almost all of his weekly “SpaceX time” running ‘just’ the Starship program at BC (which has to be the world’s most fun space job, so don’t blame him). Gwynne Shotwell runs SpaceX. Wherever SHE is, is SpaceX Headquarters.

I mean, he isn’t “technically” a CEO he just is, it’s weird how people’s dislike of the guy makes them try and disown him of his accomplishments and pretending it’s all shotwell. She is an integral part of the company, but she is not the only one making high level business decisions.

@@wick9427 You misunderstood me- and you misunderstand SpaceX. He has the title of CEO- but he does not run SpaceX on a daily/weekly/monthly et al basis; he has his excellent manager Gwynne Shotwell do that. He maintains the CEO title so he can make ANY decision, when he chooses to do so. What he is truly the “CEO” of, is the Starship program, as well as- especially in its early years, but still now- Starlink, i.e, the new stuff. SpaceX is not an ordinary company; and it’s not run like one. So don’t let the ‘ordinary’ titles mislead you, ok? - Dave Huntsman
