I'm from Hawaii and SPAM is my JAM love love love it! Could eat it everyday all day long ;) Spam can be put in anything. I love spam on my saimen/ramen noodles. I love spam in my fried rice. I love spam and egg sandwiches for breakfast with a bit of mayo. I of course love spam musubi. You can teriyaki the spam and make it more sweet. spam also can be put in pancit. Loads of different dishes. Anything you use bits of ham or bacon on/with can be substituted with Spam :D

When I was a kid we used to slice it thin and fry it so it had the same crunch as extra crispy bacon, and always paired it with macaroni and cheese and fried diced potatoes. Thinking about it that setup is a dietitian's worst nightmare lol but we only had it maybe 3 times a year if that and always during the summer.

we didn't have much money growing up. So my dad would get a cab or two of spam and cutting up into bite-size pieces fry in a pan until it was crispy. Then he would add a can of corn kernels and a small bottle of picante sauce... It was actually pretty good😊

Spam musubi is also my favorite. I marinade it in brown sugar and soy sauce and some water before I fry it for the musubi. Another one is to put spam and pineapple in a grill, cook it up, and put it on a burger Bun with some lettuce and maybe mayo. Last one. Dice spam, make a scramble with it and eggs, throw it on a tortilla and add cheese and salsa. Military men in WWII actually got different slam than commercially. It was greasier and saltier. They used the grease as gun lubricant and to waterproof boots. They hated it and this poem was infamous. “For breakfast they will fry it; For supper it is baked; For dinner it goes delicate - They have it pat-a-caked. Next morning it’s with flapjacks, Or maybe powdered eggs - For God’s sake where do they get it? It must come in by kegs. Oh, surely for the evening meal They’ll cook up something new! But the cooks they are uncanny, Now the Spam is in the stew. And thus the endless cycle goes; It never seems to cease - There’s Spam in cake and Spam in pie And Spam in rancid grease.”

My Dad loved it fried with eggs on the weekend but I always rinsed it, sliced it and boiled it in about 1/2 in. of water in the skillet for 5-10 minutes to remove some of the salt/fat then simply pan friend it like bacon. The boiling makes a world of difference and was much better for his blood pressure.

My best friend is Samoan. She makes spam musubi for family get-togethers and parties, and she always boils it first, too. I'd never heard of that. We had spam sometimes when I was growing up and always ate it fried with eggs and toast at breakfast. I really liked it, but I don't mind salt. I definitely think it's best when served with something like eggs or rice, etc. as opposed to by itself.

This was very interesting to watch, we bought a whole variety of spam in our local supermarket and also from Our recent trip to Hawaii. We found some interesting flavors like teriyaki, cheese and spicy! You'll definitely enjoy the spam musubi better than straight out of the can. Spam is good cut up I to small pieces in fried rice and also makes a rather good soup stock because it's so salty. Enjoy!!!

I absolutely love SPAM Fried Rice! Just substitute SPAM for the meat you would normally use. I add frozen veggies to the mix for a fast and easy meal. SPAM musubi is also a favorite. It's especially good to fry the SPAM as you would for musubi and then lay it on a bed of rice and scrambled eggs for breakfast. My favorite breakfast!

Growing up eating spam, we never ate it alone, always with white rice. Every time I watched spam tasting videos on youtube, people always just eat them plain and without cooking them. I'm glad you tried them both uncooked and cooked. But yea, I don't think I know anyone who would eat spam alone, way too salty.

When I was younger we didn't really have money, and they would give us tons of spam at the local church. I loved it sooo much.

My family was pretty broke growing up so we ate a lot of cheap dinners my mom could throw together really quick at the end of the day (Both parents working very hard and raising three kids). One of our favorite "treat" dinners was Original Kraft Mac n Cheese with fried Spam and green peas. They always start separate on the plate but you slowly start to mix them together and oooooh so good. Childhood on a plate for me.

There is nothing you can really do to spam to screw it up lol. fry it or added it to salads for a meaty flavor or even make spam salad. toss it into mac and cheese My favorite was the BBQ spam but they do not make that anymore so just fry it in some hickory smoked bbq sauce or fry it and dip it in sauce. My dad was military so he like everyone else got paid once a month and well we had a lot of interesting spam dishes we got creative with. Oh and canned treet too lol and I will still make spam just quick, simple and all in all good I think.

Born and raised in Minnesota... the home of Hormel and SPAM, so what did I eat growing up? A lot of SPAM! I gave up eating red meat a bunch of years ago (nothing religious... just a mammal thing) and my three biggest losses were Pepperoni, Original SPAM and White Castle "Beef" Hamburgers (I also grew up with them). Fortunately for me Hormel makes Turkey Pepperoni which has less grease than traditional, and while most restaurants don't serve it, I make my own pizza at home typically and load it up! Hormel started making Turkey SPAM a number of years ago and it's now my treat about once a year. Last month I made my first ever Musubi with it and it was excellent. White Castle? There's a new one here on the Las Vegas Strip, but too much hassle to get to and I've never had their Turkey burger version of sliders, and don't know that I want to. Just give me Turkey SPAM (and pepperoni)! Emmy - Thanks always for your videos!

Ramen with egg and green onion? Wow. That's so weird. Long ago, my mom used to make us Chinese noodles with a chopped hard-boiled egg, sliced green onion, and a bit of soy sauce and broth. We loved it, but I always wondered where in the world she came up with that recipe. The closest she ever got to Chinese food was a small town restaurant which, undoubtedly, never served noodles with egg and green onion.

Thank you so much for trying it both uncooked and fried!! I make spam and egg fried rice with the 25% less sodium spam. You can also do spam and kimchi fried rice. If you make korean soup or hot pot (like Maangchi recipes) adding thin slices of spam is tasty! Similarly it's tasty to add thin slices of spam to instant noodles, spicy or not!

Now I'm curious about this stuff. It's probably got a pretty good shelf life being vacuum canned and using salt to preserve it even further. It might come in handy in a pinch when there's not a lot in the cupboard. Thanks for the heads up about the salt content and I think I'll be trying one of the reduced salt versions. Thanks E and keep up the GREAT tasting!

I'm a Spam fan. I don't eat it much, but I always keep a couple cans in the pantry. It's great to have around for emergencies. When the expiration date is approaching, then I treat myself and buy another. I'll either fry it and have it with mustard, or just have it sliced thin on bread as a quick sandwich. That's probably my favorite way of eating it, just sliced thin on white bread. It seems to counter some of the saltiness. An interesting side note: Spam was the very first item I learned to cook when I was a kid. I was watching my younger brothers and there was a recipe on the can for how to make a mustard glaze and then bake it. So I tried it. I was maybe 14 or 15, and it was the first thing I actually learned how to cook. I'm now the primary cook in my household.

Throw in one raw egg, cook it with Spam and put it in a bowl.

instead of a musubi, I just cut it into strips and make kimbap out of it. It's extremely salty so I cut the strips very thinly and put a lot of veggies. The other day, I was craving some "Pigs in a blanket" so I made a dough that consist of all purpose flour, butter, baking powder, and sugar (no salt because the spams are salty enough) and then I wrap the dough with some small cubed spams. Roll it in a ball and then fried it.I gave some to my family and they loved it.

My daughters love when I make fried noodles with Spam (I use the low sodium version). Blanched ramen noodles, thinly sliced onions, thinly sliced cabbage, bean sprouts, thinly sliced carrot, cubed Spam. Season with either the seasoning pack from the ramen or a shoyu, sugar, mirin mixture. You can also add scrambled egg to it or a fried egg to top each serving. With love from Hawaii...we know our Spam (every year there is a festival in Waikiki called the Spam Jam. Look it up and I'm sure you will find a ton of recipes using Spam).

I make a sauce with 1 part low sodium soy sauce (low sodium for obvious reasons), 2 parts Sake, and 1/4 part honey. I cut the low sodium spam thinly and fry it until it's very crispy on both sides. I then add the sauce and let it simmer until it gets somewhat thick and absorbs into the spam. I then pour the spam and sauce over rice. It's salty to be certain, but, it's also delicious.

On a 5 day canoe trip in the middle of the Okefenokee Swamp on Floyds Island I sliced up two cans of the Turkey Spam and fried them. When they were just about done I added some Turkey gravy. For sides I had mashed potatoes and stuffing along with jelled cranberry's. There were 4 of us and all we had after the meal was clean plates and some happy paddlers and campers. The Turkey Spam is a easy way to surprise your friends and have a meal of Turkey , Taters, Gravy and Stuffing for everyone in the middle of a Swamp.

Emmy, I have always LOVED Spam, but I have never eaten it uncooked. My sons grew up eating it in sandwiches, macaroni & cheese, omelets, quiche, browned with garlic in olive oil over spaghetti. No need to add salt to any dish! My favorite flavors now are Teriyaki, Hickory Smoked, & Jalapeno - fried crispy brown & served on toasted whole wheat bread with mayo, spicy brown mustard, swiss cheese, sliced tomato, & raw spinach. Served with Lay's Dill Pickle Potato Chips, it's my new "Comfort Food." ;-) I also LOVE your Taste Tests!

Little bit of garlic powder, little bit of cayenne, few spoons of brown sugar, mix it all together, rub it on the side of thinly slice spam, pan fry until carmelized, near the end add a healthy squirt of Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, mix that till they're all nice and coated and cook for another minute or two until that sauce turns into a thick, sweet, delicious tar. Pop those onto a piece of bread with cheese and lettuce, maybe mayo, and scrape the sauce overtop, then add your other piece of bread. Pan fry it to make crispy if you like

When I was a kid in the early 70's, one of the ways my Mother used to prepare Spam was to grate it with a cheese grater (actually a Salad Master but most people don't know what that is) on the finest setting and then blend with mayo and other ingredients to make "ham" salad sandwiches. It was just like ham salad they sold in the stores or at restaurants but on the cheap. It was great to take camping because it didn't require refrigeration. Spam used to be the poor mans ham but inflation and novelty have driven prices way up. There was even a lower cost knock off to Spam called Treet made by Armour Meat Company. Both are a "spiced ham" but Treet was half the cost and half the flavor. We were a Spam house but I will say I have' tasted it in years!
