Oh man! It’s so beautiful! 😍 I recently heard of this company. Both levels look so good! My daughter really wants to learn French, but I only ever took Spanish so I have no idea how to pronounce all of the French sounds. 😊

If you do decide to go with French, they also have Level 1 of French as well as themed units (which are ideal for using after you've completed Level 1 or already have the foundation in the language). The good thing is that they very much keep parents who do NOT speak the language in mind, and have pronunciation guides as well as audio to listen to for all new vocab. Definitely getting the hang of French pronunciation would require extra effort and a learning curve, but the good thing is a background in Spanish would probably help you out a bit when it comes to grammar and structure of the language. ;)

This curriculum looks awesomely fun!!! I’m looking at homeschool languages for German for my younger kids!!! I love that they use the same board for 2 activities as it’s less to travel with!!! I love that the workbook has games in!!! I can see the games being played often!!!

Yes, I definitely appreciate that they make their game boards dual-sided and give you different ways to use the same tools within the lessons. I've heard very good things about their German curriculum!

I am droooooling over this. It looks like so much fun, and honestly looks like a ton of content! This isn’t something that’s going to be in our budget anytime soon, but I printed out just the four free lessons and we’ve been having a lot of fun with those and I’ve been brainstorming how to add to it. Reflexive verbs scare me too. And the present tense CAN take you a long way 😅 though I always thought the present participle (? Estoy comiendo) was pretty fun too. Great video, thanks!

The free lessons are great, and by reviewing, playing review games and getting in the habit of using those basic phrases, you can get a nice solid start. And yes, present tense can take you a long way, the estar + __iendo/ando is also very useful, and my favorite way to say anything in the future: voy/vas/vamos a + infinitive. I have also found the command form of verbs to be very frequently used when parenting in Spanish....lol....Put on your shoes, come to the table, brush your teeth, put away your laundry...this comprises so many things I say each day...

Oh yeah, I forgot about that future tense- that one might come in handy too! And I think you’re right about the command form 😅 it’s already on my list of things to review.

OK sold! I kind of balked a little when I saw the jump in price from level 1, but this looks so amazing. My daughter will die when she sees the guess who game. 🤩I'm glad they included the song lyric pages. I've been making those for level 1 so we can practice in morning time. Thank you for the look inside!

It is significantly more expensive than Level 1, and it also really took me seeing it to understand why--there's a LOT more here, 98ish lessons, and really nice quality with those wooden Guess Who game boards. It's seriously cool.

I like that they include a page on accent marks. Recently, my son was reading a sentence in Spanish "You drink water." and he asked me "You baby water?" I tried to explain the difference between the words baby and drink, but I need a refresher on the accent marks.

Yes! It can take some work to get the hang of them, especially for kids!

Great review. My 1st grader is showing an interest in learning french and I had always planned for my kids to just do foreign languages when they were required. Would you recommend having older kids who are not familiar with foreign languages join in on these lessons as well? I'm thinking then we could all be learning it as a family. Thanks for all the information you share.

This is definitely multi-age friendly, and foreign language generally is, because everyone is starting out learning and speaking "like a little kid" again. All of the conversation games are great for family style learning.

This looks amazing for my 6-year-old! What would you recommend for a soon to be 7th grader? He has done beginning Spanish at our Co-op for a few years, but I don’t know much myself.

Can I ask how do you deal with having a reader who can read the English and the pronunciation at the bottom of the stories while using this curriculum? Mine can - and I've avoided buying this curriculum because I know he won't read the Spanish if it is faster and easier to read the English (I've had to use whiteout on similar materials to prevent cheating). He really needs the additional vocab boost and I'm trying to figure out how to give it to him.

So far, all of the stories have been scheduled for the parent to read aloud and have the students repeat the words after the parent to build familiarity and mastery with saying the words, not for the student to read themselves. So, they are really focusing on mastering oral language use, not on reading in this curriculum. If I wanted to have my child practice reading Spanish with these, I would sit next to him and we'd cover up the English underneath. We've used other resources (i.e. the Aprende a Leer channel on KZfaq, and reading primers like Nacho, worksheets from TPT) to work on learning how to read in Spanish this year.

Hi. Hilow do we know how to pronounce evrything. Is there an audio support?

Yes, there is audio support -- QR codes can be scanned for the new vocabulary lists. Also, unlike English, Spanish is very consistent with spelling/pronunciation, so once you get the hang of reading words in Spanish, there aren't usually surprising pronunciations.

Hey Rachael, wonderful video. Question which is best llamitas or spanish 1 for 4 yr old. My children hear spanish and understand some words but speak English (my husband speaks spanish). I speak more English but fluent in spanish.

I think it depends a bit on your goals. If your goal is to get your kids to go from understanding Spanish to actually SPEAKING it, I'd lean toward Homeschool Languages level 1. The games and learning activities are strongly focused on speaking and using the language, and it's been great, even for my boys who understand the language well but haven't been confident in speaking and using what they know. I think Llamitas is best if and when you want to begin working on academics in Spanish--learning the sílabas in preparation for reading, being able to follow instructions in spanish, complete worksheets. Its much more focused on academic vocabulary and skills--which are also useful. So yes, it depends on what your main goal is right now--from the sounds of the situation, it sounds like you'd like to get him to speak the language more?

Hi. My child is turning 7 and starting homeschool 3rd grade, she can read English and French (100% bi lingual home). She knows numbers, greetings, colors, foods, and basic conversation in Spanish. Where are you from? Where do you live? Do you like...? My head hurts. We are going to..... Should i do Spanish 1 first? Thanks for your input.

If she can have a basic conversation in Spanish and is 7, then I think you could start straight into level 2.

We're using llamatas level 1 with my 6yo right now. I love the look of this one but hasn't gone with it since they originally only had level 1 and it seemed not advanced enough for her. However, level one might be a good place to start with my 4yo. Is there a certain way you incorporate it by child/ combine curriculums? My 4yo also has had some Spanish previously but not a robustly as my daughter.

Level 1 of Homeschool Languages has been an awesome fit for the needs of my 4 year old, whose Spanish skills are also not as strong as those of my oldest. We've been using Level 1 of Homeschool Languages together at breakfast/morning time. I include my older son (6 years old) in it because he likes the games and even though he knows the vocabulary pretty well, it's nice to have another person to do the role-plays and the conversations with. Getting my oldest speaking and using his Spanish helps motivate my 4 year old to try more. :) I use Llamitas with my oldest during his sit-down schoolwork time, I'm not having my 4 year old doing any "sit down" work in Spanish yet because he's not at that level yet, but eventually planning to use Llamitas with him as well.

@SevenInAll have you ever tried one third stories? Do you have any thoughts on it? That's the other one that keeps coming up when i think about my younger.

@@renadena5629 I haven't, although I have heard of them. I like using Spanish books that have simple language and a non-overwhelming amount of text so that they are still understandable and enjoyable for little ones who have a lot of growing to do with Spanish. The "Elefante y Cerdita" series by Mo Willems is excellent, especially because the words are all dialogue.
