One thing I would have done would have been to move the soundbar right up to the front edge of the surface that it was sat on to avoid reflections from the front speakers.

glad this has come down in price now. I can actually afford an above average Atmos Sound Bar. Just got a LG E9 55inch last week and now looking for a decently priced Sound Bar with atmos/dts x. Saw this online and was glad to see SparChange had a video on it.

I think this will be my next soundbar. Building another home theater setup in my basement and like my wife mentioned I had way too many speakers. This soundbar will be a nice compromise.

Yes is true I bought last year the SL8Y and happy but here I can not get the rear speakers the SPK8-S and now 2020 the newer LG SN 11 RG comes even with better surround rear speakers

I upgraded to the SL10YG soundbar after using last gen's SK9Y. Right away i found the SL10YG to be a little muffled compared to the older SK9Y. The SL10YG also does not support HDMI 2.1 or eARC. It's still stook at regular ARC which is really lame since LG's 2019 OLED and Nanocell TV's both support HDMI 2.1 and eARC. I ended up returning the SL10YG back to the store due to it having a lip-sync issue when Dolby Atmos was activated. The audio was always 1.5 seconds behind the video footage with Atmos turned on. Major bummer guys :(

I've searched a bit and it's not obvious where to get either the DTS:X or the Dolby Atmos demo discs. Any hints. $90 on eBay is not an option; it must be for sale somewhere.

I picked up the sk10y for $475 as an open box and couldn't be happier with it as a secondary audio option far surpassing the tv speakers in the day to day viewing environment where the full surround just isn't practical or cared about by msot of the people in the house. The full on seperates are going in the basement for the theature environment when I truly want to be immersed. I'm hoping it gets a firmware update for dts:x but I'm not holding my breath, fortunatly most of my content is in atmos and it does playback standard DTS I just miss out on the height effects, which are only so good on the sound bar anyway. For the price I'm happy enough. If I can get a similar deal on this guy I might go for it for another room in the house, but I'm not going to upgrade to it just for DTS:X and google (half my media players have it built in anyway and I still hardly use it).

Unfortunately, according to the forums, the SK10y will not be getting the update for the DTS-X, it needs a different processor as found in the SL10y. having said that, it is very difficult to tell the difference between ATMOS & DTS-X through a soundbar. A full on $15,000 11.2.4 system, yeah big difference. $1200 soundbar, not so much.

@@juandoe7802 not at all. On this model you can actually adjust the center channel between -6 and 6. I usually keep it at 2 and it's great. At 6 the voices are actually too loud. Overall, I'm really happy with it. When you have Dolby atmos turned on all the different sounds from the movie are so distinct and clear.

Hi guys, considering the price difference between the sl10 and last years sk10, I think the new model is not worth it unless you want DTS: X and Google assistant. In Europe the price of the sk10 is below $500.

So does this soundbar (SL10YG) support DTSHD Master? According to the specs it does but I tried 2 movies with DTSHD Master soundtracks and the display on the soundbar shows just DTS. DTS X appears to work fine.

I can also confirm that the Lg Sl8yg has the same issue with passing Dolby Vision through to the tv, I'm using an Xbox one x. Now here's the interesting part on my x1x in my 4k settings where it shows you what your tv supports with check marks, it has a check mark for your tv supports dv, so it obviously can read the signal it just can't send it through like there's a bug and hdr10 overrides the dv. What do you think Sparechange? Hopefullly there's a firmware update that can fix this, I much prefer dv over hdr10 on my lg c8.

Did you get eARC from the TV for Atmos? Big problem I have with my Samsung Atmos bar (flagship my rear) is no Atmos from my LG OLED. Sounds (no pun intended) like this is the one I need. Definitely have my share of DV and DTS 4K discs, both of which the Samsung doesn't support but my XBOX One S does. Great review!

I certainly think so because this soundbar at least has actual upfiring speakers whereas the Sony is more virtualization based.

You should have the Apple TV connected with TV and use only the ARC for the soundbar. This is also described in the manual. Then you have Apple TV in 4k and Dolby Atmos. Anyway thanks for the review! :)

Of my 187 4K movies (not counting blue planet and the like) 32 are DTS:X (Bourne, Fast & Furious, Harry Potter, Jurassic park, Apollo 13, Atomic Blonde, Battleship, Despicable Me 3, Divergent, Halloween (2018), Hell Fest, Grinch (2000), How to train your dragon 1 & 2, Serenity) so a growing collection, 114 are Atmos and 42 don't have object based audio at all largely dts hd ma, so yeah DTS:X support is becoming more important but Atmos still has the market share so far.

I definitely prefer supper speakers! Although, I have not heard an Atmos sound bar in person. Nevertheless, I feel for the same cost of the sound bar you could put together a pretty nice separate speaker system.

Hi Shane. New to you, so congrats for having such an awesome channel. I'm new to sound bars as every thing else so thanks for this review and I'm a strong LG supporter though I wish they would bring back removable batteries from their phones. Question, l don't see you having any reviews for Blu-rays Pioneer LX500 and as of lately the LX800, is there any reason for that. I'm owner of some of their vintage units the TX9100 and SA9100 which are dinosaurs now but in their days were eyebrow raising. I'm looking to get my 50 percent discount from... 🙈

I am planning to buy a sound bar and this one looks really nice. I can buy it for around €600 with SPK8 surround set. I Will mainly use it to watch regular tv, play PS4 and watch Netflix through Chromecast our ps4 since i have An "older" tv that isn't smart. I might be upgrading the tv later on. Do you think it is worth it to buy this. Or will i just be paying for the Atmos that i Will not be abble to use?

Hey is it passing through Dolby Vision now with Apple TV 4K?.. I have the SL8YG, and I want to get Dolby Vision+Atmos. I am thinking of buying the Apple TV 4K just for that.. LG's website for these soundbars says it passes through Dolby Vision.. So maybe a software update enabled that for you?

It works from standby, but it does not work with voice activation if you aren't using the BT och WiFi mode. Only way to use assistant while you are watching a movie is to press the Google assistant button on the provided remote.

I am little bit confused since I have got LG SN10Y - latest soundbar with DTS X and D Atmos but when I plug it into the LG OLEDC11 (2021) and play Netflix movie with Dolby Atmos my soundbar just dont show that is playing dolby atmos like your does. It just shows D. IN and I am connected via eARC and eARC is allowed in the tv settings…Maybe I am getting D atmos but i would be more satisfied if it would show it like your does. Thank you

Fantastic video try to get into soundbars they just do not do it for me I suppose if I had a room and was struggling for space then maybe don't really think they are anything but convenience that's it as for Dolby Atmos on soundbars or AV amplifiers I'm not convinced it's like when you put on the demo disc.!!. for Dolby Atmos not impressed because let's face it if something is deliberately mixed in a studio purposely to make people go wow then it isn't very good you know as well as I do that proper films even Dolby Atmos are not mixed that way Excellent video my friend

Hello. You could connect Apple TV 4k to either an HDMI port at the TV, one of the two non-ARC HDMI-sockets at the sl10yg. Both should give you Dolby Atmos. It is very important that Dolby Plus is selected for your audio output at the TV.

Bro... Look at the HTZ9F.. I promise. I have used and owned almost all the top soundbars lately.. Its hands down better clarity and most important... Loud AF! Go test one at Best Buy and you will see.. "It really needs the rear speakers which brought the price up a bit"

Hey guys I need help. This or Sony HT s-500? I am also considering nakamichi shockwave 7.2 and onkyo hts7805. Let me know if anyone out there have had one of those and what are the recommendations.

So since there isnt alot of DTS-X stuff out there and Google assistant isnt that important to me is there much of an upgrade from last year since its the same design and same drivers?

There isn't alot of DTS-X stuff out there if all you do is stream content. If you rent/buy Blu-rays and UHD disks, there is an abundance of DTS-X titles out there. Less than Atmos but plenty.
