Hey Shane Thank you for the excellent review as always Bro. I sold my Sony HTNT5 and the ZR5 wireless speakers and got this setup instead. The wireless speakers adds a lot to the sound bar. I’m extremely happy with it in a small room. As you stated, this will never replace a real Atmos setup. I have 5.2.4 in the basement. Thanks again my man. 🍻🍻🇨🇦

I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

How do you access the home menue from the remote to set the speakers up? The remote doesn't have a button for the Home option. I cant set them up

I've been using this soundbar for a while now with the rear speakers. I love the sound quality and rich sound it produces. The virtual effects are pretty nice but not much overhead effects in my opinion when watching atmos content.

I own this soundbar rear speaker combo, and while the atmos effects are not perfect they were surprisingly accurate from all of the demo material I tested. Just to make sure did you change your audio settings to bitstream? Atmos is not available as PCM and the soundbar will only play a 7.1 PCM if your player is not set to bitstream . To check if you are getting true atmos make sure to press info, It should say Dolby Atmos TrueHD. I also vastly prefer using the "Dolby Speaker Virtualizer" to sony's own vertical sound engine. I found that sound quality was less compromized and I still got the verticality. Obviously you wont get perfect discreet movement from this soundbar but I closed my eyes and I could pinpoint some movement above head Particularly Dolby's "Audiosphere" demo. When I opened my eyes the sounds I heard above head did indeed coordinate with the screen positions. Not perfect 1 to 1 but impressive for no upfiring speakers.

I am limited to amazon as I have large credit from past Sony htxf9000 which went faulty. It’s currently priced £599 although I’m waiting for prime day. And the rear speakers £299. A lot of money. I really want a sound bar that supports rear speakers and Dolby atoms/dtsx compatible. Can you recommend anything better in that price range? 5.1/ 7.1 a must. Many thanks

Hey Guys, I understood the problem with your set up and why some of you are not getting any atmos effect. Guys you all are placing your speakers wrong. It shouldn't behind the ear but it should be 6 feet minimum from the ground level at 45 degrees pointed down towards the couch. When the speakers will be placed slightly above then they will give you both over head and surround effects.

I have the sound bar and rear speakers. Work well for movies and sports. I can't seem to get them to work though when streaming music through the system. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Got a bug. Often the sound drops and only the rear speakers give out some very dull, quiet sound then i change the sound mode and its back to normal. only if the player is plugged directly to the bar the bug didnt occour. someone make the same experience? thx in advance

Can anyone confirm whether HT-Z9F supports SRS-ZR5 speakers as surround speakers or not? I'm currently having HT-CT800 with ZR5's since it supports Sony wireless surround. I am new to the channel thanks for the review. I have had a lot of bad luck with Samsung TV's (Q9) and decided to get an A8F oled and during this process I also had Best Buy take back my Samsung hw-k950 as I have constant disconnects on the speakers. I purchased this sound bar and the tears and feels like it needs more mid range. The sound bar does have a nice all around sound. I test sound using Ready player one and Matrix and I agree that the Atmos experience was lacking albeit it was present. I really did like the sound of the hw-k950 better but it did not out way the problems. I might consider exchanging this bar with the new Samsung hw-n950 when it drops.

I find the sound is better in the normal mode. I have turn the rear speakers to max and have the sub about half way (it’s pretty loud). When just listening to music, I find the vertical sound mode dosen’t work well in the rear speakers. But overall quite happy with the sound, I considered the bose but it was way too expensive for the same set up and the sound was only ok..

I own this setup and have been impressed with it. It’s obviously not going to match or outperform true overhead speakers though. In my game room, I don’t have attic access overhead so ceiling mounted speakers aren’t an option. I feel like this setup performs pretty well in my space and I was able to get it all for $600. I don’t think it’s worth twice that.

Hello, in Portugal I can find the Z9F for about 750 us dollars. Would you consider this a better deal when compared with the ST5000 which still costs around 1500 us dollars? In terms of sound quality for movie/games would it be worth, in your opinion, the extra 750 dollars?

Your wireless speaker review brings to mind a question I have. We both are apparently audio/videophiles & as such appreciate perfectly matched HT speakers. I have Definitive towers as my mains (these each have built-in amps, which replace the need for a stand-alone sub). And since I just have a 5.2 set-up (Atmos), I have a matching center (w/built-in amp) & matching (bi-polar) rears. I've been thinking about adding side surrounds making it a 7.2 channel system, but getting older keeps me from wanting to play around my attic. I'm wondering if wireless surrounds would accomplish that addition? Since they wouldn't be DefTech's, there wouldn't be tonal match, but I wonder if it would still work well enough to try it? My AVR is a 7.2 system, but again I've used it as a 5.2. Thoughts?

Hey @sparechange have you tested LG sk8y with the surround speakers? It does atmos for about $600 less than z9f and the wattage on the rears are 70 watts each vs 50 on z9f also 200 watts sub on sk8y. I'm debating if I should return the z9f back to best buy and get the sk8y instead and save about $600? Decisions decisions... What's your recommendation?

Check out the Focal evo sub with built in atmos for the front left and right speakers. Its a full system in a box with a great sub and produces the best dolby atmos and dtsx sound. Have had it myself for about a month and is a superb compact for home cinema sound and music. Has got to be used with a av receiver. Sells for £1000 here in the uk.

After watching all reviews of so many sound bars for two months, I finally decided to buy this Z9f with rear speakers.I have bought that for Rs 65000.it’s really worth for money.it’s awesome.No connectivity issues.I have seen so many Marvel movies and really enjoyed that.we can feel the immersive sound around and above us.If you are in dilemma like me,don’t hesitate to go for it.

In my experience, it just depends on the movie (when it was made and it remastered because not all movies are truly Dolby Atmos) and the player settings. Sony works best with all Sony products I’ve discovered.

I just purchased this sound bar and I think the sound quality is very good but it no where near as good as 5.1 home Cinema Avr but u got to expect that due to the size of the sound bar but the sound quality is very good and u can here the rear speakers very good and clear I think it worth buying for yes bit on the expensive side but u only get what u pay for I give this sound bar 8/10 in built and sound quality

Actually you Do not have to set paring on the SA-Z9R. The wifi frequency that the Z9Rs send out let's them immediately connect to any Z9F units. As usual you didn't call me.

maybe youre not getting atmos effect because youve connected the bluray hdmi directly through the tv. In your test video in “readyplayerone” it shows TV not hdmi. To hear the atmos effect, connect the bluray hdmi through the soundbar.

HT-ST5000 or HT-Z9F with the rears for a small apartment living room setup? The HT-ST5000 has no rears yet the Z9F does. The Z9F has simulated atmos while the HT-ST5000 has actual upward firing speakers. I am having a really hard time trying to decide between these two setups for games/movies. If the 5000 had rears I would be all in on it.
