Good video. I always start with the hardest spark plugs first, makes the job easier as you go along. I did this on a friend’s 08 HEMI Ram in about 90mins. Piece of cake really. Dealership wants like $400 for this lol

It took me all day doing 8 spark plugs on my 2004 Dodge Ram 5.7L Hemi. My back was hurting when I was done and I still have 8 more to go. At least the other 8 are on the easy side. I bought quick release extensions at Harbor Freight. 4 different sizes for $19.00 and also bought universal joints. That back one on the drivers side was tough. It's easier if you start at the front and take them all out first to have the room to remove the back spark plug. That's what this guy did on this video. It also helps if you label your coils so you don't forget which one goes where. Always disconnect your negative on your battery. I'm finishing the other 8 today. Good luck everybody.

Removing the plugs: use spark plug socket with rubber insert to remove plug. Installing the plugs: put a short fuel line on a plug. This allows you to start the threading. If you can turn the fuel line in both directions and cannot pull the plug out you are not cross threaded. Remove rubber insert from spark plug socket and tighten. If you do not remove rubber insert it may be difficult to remove socket without extension detaching. CAUTION: some socket have a thicker wall than others. The valve cover has a rubber gasket. Beware if the socket is snug when you put it into the valve cover you may not be able to extract it without removing the valve cover. Alternate method of removing driver's side plugs is to remove the brake booster. This allows sparkplug change and brake fluid change at same 30k mile interval as manf. recommends.

Took me a couple hours to swap em all out. The back pass side sucked and the ones under the brake booster were kinda weird. Overall, it wasnt as bad as I thought 👍

On the drivers side under the booster what I found helped putting the socket in the hole first then using a 3 inch extension that reaches about 1/4 inch above the valve cover then use a flex head ratchet. To clear everything once you get the plug up i pulled each section apart and pulled the plug out with the socket with the rubber insert. Putting the new plug in I used a piece of rubber hose to start the plug by hand as far as i could then used a old spark plug socket that i made the hole in the rubber bigger. I was concerned pulling the sections off the socket would stay down in the head if it was tight. This worked very well, I did use a 3 step ladder and leaned in from the front with a movers blanket over the radiator. It was not that bad using this method.

Same plugs for both upper and lower banks? I thought they were copper on the intake side and irridium on the exhaust side.

U don't need a magnet, use the coil pack

I believe that little connector that you remove from the engine cover is the air intake temperature sensor. Afterwards you may need to cancel the warning on the computer as i had to do on mine. Even driving the vehicle did not reset it, so it had to be reset via computer directly. Also while you have that engine cover off its a good idea to check the throttle body to see if its gummed up or not. Hemi's are famous for gummed up throttle bodies. You can try to clean some off with some carb cleaner but dont touch or mess with the throttle body, you can break it. A mechanic told me it takes two people to clean one properly. In case you dont know the throttle body is the butterfly disk that rotates when you press the throttle. If that is gummed up you probably need a fuel system cleaning anyway. But you can try running some sea foam through your tank.

I just did one used the monster magnetic 5/8 plug socket it did every plug.

Just as a precaution, never put a tool on top of the battery, even if the positive side had that cover over it. You dont want to have a bad day and get a free tool brand branded on your hand. If anything, use a mircofiber towel, put on cowl, and set them there. But other than that, it's always good to see someone do their own services if they can. A standard(as in metric & SAE) tool set, a repair manual, and some patience all lead to a happy vehicle.

Are'nt all the bolts on this truck metric and not sae sizes?

You know they sell magnetic spark plug sockets for like $6 at oreilly.

I have an 08 as well. is it a total of 16 spark plugs being replaced

I just did this job and a couple of the cylinder had oil all over the plug. A friend said my valve cover gaskets are shot. Anyone know if that's the case. ?

Is this the same for the a v6 same year?

I dont know where he got all those room to work with but I could hardly fit my hands in there and i have skinny arm and hand.

my haynes book says .045 gap lol and torque says 156 inch pounds which converted is 13 foot pounds which i tried and that is way too tight i think.

my 2 cents is I seen your video I just bought my 08 Dodge Ram 5.7L Hemi, I recommend to use 3/8 fuel line to fish out the back spark plugs, because it bends and flexible. that's what I'm gonna try when I do mine

nice video could of used a 1/4" rubber hose to take out your sparkplug save you from binding your magnet tool . just other ideas went using regular socket 5/8.

Have You had any trouble with your HEMI ?

nobody has the guts to do the bottom (exhaust) spark plugs on a 08-09 4.7l next gen. I would like to see it done.

How much spark plugs yiu need 8 or 16

Just changed all the spark plugs on my 2006 1500 hemi and I don't think I'll do it again. I called my go to mechanic coz the plugs would not budge so i asked him if it's okay to used breaker bar. Driver side and passenger closed to the wall panel took most of the time. I couldn't believe that I used breaker bar on all 16 of them. The plugs looks so old and bad shape to the point where I become suspicious if i got really change last time i had it done..Someone says it only took him 2 hours and and there's nothing to it so based on my experience I beg the differ. You also need an elbow extension and a 10mm wrench to loosen the coil pack way in the back on both side. I was worn out after I was done and might have to see my chiropractor to re adjust my back. A nice trick for the driver's side is to remove the brake booster. It takes about 15-30min extra but will save time and heartache during the procedure.

It's not a plenum, it's a resonator.

Guys dont put anti on your spark plugs everything else hes spot on lol
