You have the patience of an angel......I used to be a mechanic but threw my tools around after I completed my apprenticeship and quit....I admire your patience and dexterity. You are a champion !! i'd never attempt such a job just to replace the spark plugs. Mitsubishi should be ashamed of themselves for designing such an engine and not thinking of the poor mechanic.

I own a 03 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS and was feeling cocky like I could do this by myself just to change the spark plugs. After watching this video I re-evaluated and decided to get the wires,a timing belt/water pump kit,the valve cover gasket set and the distributer cap aswell. Costs more money in parts but this hassle looks well worth doing it all at once 😂😂 thank you

First Off Great Video! I did a couple things differently though to make it easier on me. 1) the black support that runs from one side strut mount to the other just at the firewall 4 nuts and two bolts and it makes it sooo much easier to get those rear manifold bolts. 2) I just COULD NOT get the coolant hose off the throttle body so I just disconnected the throttle body from the manifold 4 bolts EASY! Thanks again for the video!!

this video was very helpful. because now I know if you have a 2002-2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT it is basically a royal pain in the ass to change the spark plugs. and in my case I also learned I need a new valve cover gasket. thank you lol

it'd suck to spending about 400 dollars on this ! So Diy for less than 200, make sure you have proper tools , metric. few adapters and extension. the worst will be the exhaust pipe . dont belive you need to undo any coolant hoses i didnt , also remove your motor support tower bar gives you more space , everything will only go bk on one way. i do suggest buying quality plugs an wires or oem. buy valve cover gasket kit just incase you find oil in the wells you can always return it unless you wanna do this job again by only wishing you bought it and rtv. i did this on mitsubishi gts v6 no room at all its a bit bigger . this set up here along with the mitsubishi gt are smaller and a bit more room to work . good job. and for ppl who are scared to do this review more and take photos .again it will only go bk on one way . there are no extra bolts when you started so ..lol , putting the plenum back on dont over torque or tighten it bc it will strip . take note on which way the intake gasket sits as well bc if put on backward guess your be doing it again and flipping it or again bc you now made a vacuum leak .buy new wires, dustributor and rotor. its worth it if your down there. if your arms are to big to reach the exhaust pipe in the back and the 4 bolts holding the plenum on you can do the back from underneath up. last tip get a good set long needle nose pliers all my plug wires but one broke off at the rubber grommets at the top so had to dig them out .air compressor blow the wells clean from the rubber pieces than add plugs. this motor set up is the devil , may the Lord be with you 😂😂

@DetaoMakesMusic
@DetaoMakesMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Hey FCAS, just wanted to upate you and let you know the job is complete!! The total work time having no clue until we watched your video was roughly two and a half hours between my Wife and I with 2 ratchets, extensions, 10mm, 12mm and 14mm on our 2004 Dodge Stratus R/T 3.0L 24V. We didn't take the whole top end off as we just were doing plugs, wires, and gaskets, we just unhooked everything except a like 8" long line running from the manifold to the engine and pivoted the manifold out of the way. Everything looks great, the car is running amazingly, and we learned the previous owner still had factory plugs in the back that were so burnt you couldn't even see the white (they were deep-amber burnt, not just soot) Thank you SO much for your video, you saved us a lot of headache and money!! To anyone about to dive into this project, LABEL YOUR BOLTS! They have numbers on them (4 and 7s are different as one is a tapping bolt, and the other is normal threaded, MIXING THESE UP WILL CROSSTHREAD THE HOLES!) and you're GOLDEN! It honestly LOOKS a lot worse than it actually is, it's not nearly as hard as we thought it'd be. My only other suggestion to everyone else is grab a valve cover gasket, and the gasket for the intake manifold, because they are only a few bucks and most of the time need to be ordered from a parts store, so just have them handy that way if you DO need them, you have them, and if you don't, well you'll need them eventually anyways.

I am working on a stratus now. I am half way done. Got the 5 bolts on the back if the naniflod to tske off and that's it. Spend 2 hours today getting that far. Got the front 3 plugs and wires and new valve cover gasket done tho on the front. Same for back, valve cover gasket and 3 plug and wires. And also all new fuel injectors. I got about 3 r 4 hours of work tommorow finishing it. Pain in the ass is all I gotta say. 250 dollars I charged to do all that and I feel like I'm getting screwed haha. I'm not a shop tho I do mobile mechanic so I gotta be cheaper. Good video tho. P.s the manifold will not come off or even lift up at all without the back 5 bolts still in, or at least the 3 bracket bolts. U could leave the egr alone if your just doing plugs and just reach under there and change them. Less to tske off

Really easy job to do.....really similar/common procedure for almost ALL v6 front wheel drive vehicles. Alot of people are intimidated by this type of job, but it's actually simple. You CANT replace an electrical connector in the wrong location. You CANT replace hoses where they dont belong. All the bolts are of the same grade, you just gotta pay attention to the bolt length.........................Im watching this video to get an idea of what tools I need to pack up before I replace valve cover gaskets.

I didn/t use a ratchet on any of the nuts/bolts. I used a cordless impact on most everything and a 15 degreea angled ratcheting wrench on those back bolts for the EGR tube flange..........took approximately 30 minutes to get everything apart.................oh, and the reason I was able to use a ratcheting wrench on the back of the intake manifold is because I remover the factory strut tower brace..........doing this opened up so much room.

Its way to complex for average car enthusiast to do it by themselves. Very good video. I've done the tune up job twice, and now I have Cylinder 1 misfiring trouble. Also, I appreciate any comments, experiences on the best way to replace valve gaskets. You are either getting too much air (vacuum leak) or too little fuel (restriction in fuel line). Check live data on an OBD2 to see your short term fuel trims. Also, I've had random misfires caused by an EGR valve stuck open. Make sure it is opening and closing normally.

Engines are identical (part of the Mitsubishi 6g series) minus a few exterior components and the bore. In fact if your 2.5 goes you can upgrade it to a 3.0 or even a 3.5 from a Diamante. I got a '00 Stratus with the 2.5 that has 204k miles that I might do this to soon since you can get low mileage engines for cheap.

Wow, what a job. How much did all that cost your customer? Trying to decide if I want to tackle this in my daughters mits. Did you have to drain the coolant since you took off some of the upper hoses, or would those have drained back to the radiator? Lots of good info on your video, thanks.
@fixingcarsandstuff
@fixingcarsandstuff 10 жыл бұрын
Kevin Kimey On this one I did the timing belt and water pump as well, so I did drain the coolant. Depends on how much of a mess you want to make. there should be a small drain plug on the bottom of the radiator, maybe drain out 1/2 a gallon or so, that will help with less spilling when taking off the hose(s).

Xtremevette I do not think I do, I do not know how much searching you did for it on YT. When searching I would be sure to put the engine size in there, also a tip is to find out what other cars have that same basic setup. I would search wikipedia for your car, often on the right side they will list similar or related cars, and with a little research you can find out what other vehicles that engine goes in. Hope this helps some, sorry I don't have more.

Once you get the intake manifold off, you need to unscrew all bolts holding down the valve covers for both sides of the V6. Once it cover is off the gaskets for the spark plug tubes and valve cover itself can be pulled off. Practice with the front valve cover first since it is more accessible. The other is harder to get to, but once you know what you're doing it isn't too bad.

I did this job today on my 01 Mitsubishi eclipse spider,Got it all back together and now it sounds like something is hitting somewhere.Any ideas what would be causing it ?? I pulled it back apart to check if the pistons were hitting the plugs and they had little dents on them ? I reinstalled the old ones and it is doing the same thing. It did not do it before. Any ideas ?????? I am stumped..

Did you have the intake holes covered the whole, time? Wondering if something fell down into one of the holes? Unfortunately you may need to take it apart again and look down in the holes with a good flashlight to look for anything obvious. could it be some kind of belt noise? Best of luck. Those little dents could just be indentations for the edges of the valves built into the pistons, may not be an issue. Any plug gaps messed up?

I checked all the intake holes with a flashlight there wasn't anything in them.. None of the gaps were messed up just those little dents on the plugs.everything was fine there wasn't any ticking or noises at all..

Hey, Pulled the intake manifold today. Couldn't have done it without your video. That back bracket bolt by the exhaust is a pita. Need a swivel ratchet to get it and still not easy. Since it's off I am going to replace the valve cover gasket too. Now that I can see the air intake it is filthy. Can I clean it with some throttle and intake cleaner? Thanks!
