I wanna give a huge thank you to Pete Prodge of Tiswas Online for linking me up with the footage and making this possible! Happy 45th to Number One in Heaven, long live the Mael brothers 🥂

How brilliant! I missed this one but it was a long time ago. Good quality & silly fun going on. That year brought Sparks back into the UK top 10 & the nation's hearts with a comeback no one could have guessed in advance.

I remember seeing this in 1979, there was also an earlier interview featured on Tiswas in 1975. I hope that clip can be found. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes

The disconnect between the age of the kids, the background noise and the fact that none of the kids on camera are paying a blind bit of notice, and then the interview discussing concerts in Germany, Giorgio Moroder etc. is spectacular.

I love these old kids' programmes. The children have no idea who these musicians are, but back in the day with just 3 tv channels to choose from, these bands had no other outlet to showcase their musical talents. And tizwas was a classic 👌

I grew up in Jersey where the local ITV company (Channel TV) didn't show Tiswas because it was too subversive for us kids. For us it was Swap Shop or the test card on Saturday mornings. I loved Sparks too. Great interview. Thanks for posting.

@willemslie But what's different about Jersey, like that? It's a small place. I've never heard of it being ultra Christian. A lot of the residents are millionaires, doing whatever they want.

@@therespectedlex9794 Jersey has its own government. In the 70s (Tiswas era when I was a kid) elected officials were unpaid volunteers, so mainly rich conservative land-owners who thought that children should be seen, not heard, respect their elders, kiss the rod and worship God (second only to their selves). They also owned Channel Television. It's a safe and beautiful island but growing up there was a challenge.

I have the album, unfortunately not one signed on Tiswas ( I wonder where the five signed albums are right now), and it's amazing, Girogio is genius and Sparks are great too, what a combination. The Depeche Mode interview on Tiswas is funny too, some kid hitting Martin Gore over the head with a foam house brick, too funny.

Sparks were bery interesting for an American band at the time. They were not AOR or boyband or classic RnB or disco just really quirky creative pop band more in line with British pop acts.
