Hey Everyone! ) I’m Anna and welcome to my channel. Here, I post some useful information for English learners. I’m from Ukraine and I’ve worked on my English and accent, for the most part, on my own, but you can find out and trace my story by watching my videos. I’ve been studying American pronunciation for a long time, and I still do, and I guess I always will - because it’s not math. Learning a language, it’s a lifetime journey. I know exactly what it takes to become fluent and acquire an accent in a non-English speaking country, and I’ve never even been to one. And I’m sharing this information here - on my channel.

Amazing, I’m Brazilian, and I’ve been studying English for about a year, your video gives me more motivation to practice my English, my voice also changes when I speak English, here in Brazil we also have the same problems, or say you don’t sound natural or that you don’t sound like a native because they notice the Brazilian accent.... fluency is not to speak as Americans, British, Autralians, New Zealanders, etc... fluency is to communicate and be understood in what you want to communicate. Congratulations.

Out of the blue! I was looking forward to hearing someone talking on this subject for quite long a time! I totally agree with you when you mention the personality and attitude changes one can notice in a person speaking another language! A North American friend of mine said that to me long ago. Thanks for showing up on my suggestion list! :D

This is an excellent discussion about speaking a second (or third) language. My second language is Brazilian Portuguese. One starts out with a child’s primer vocabulary, despite having a college education. It takes a long time to go from conversational to having a technical discussion. My third language is European Portuguese. Yep, while I can read Portuguese, it has taken me a long time to understand the European accent (I still have trouble with it, especially the northern Portuguese accents). I know it’s the same language (mostly, there are words and phrases that are different from the Brazilian), but it sounds SO different. I feel and communicate differently when I’m visiting Portugal versus visiting Brazil. I would also add ‘code shifting’ as part of learning a language as well as when using your native language. My use of English differs depending upon who I am with, their level of education/wealth, and where I am. I speak English differently when I’m in a tech conference in California versus on the street in New York versus visiting friends and family in New Mexico. Thank you for a thoughtful discussion.

People who say you are pretending have absolutely no clue. Any native speaker will tell you that you have undergone an amazing transformation within 5 years since you started posting. Living for years in the Midwest, I can tell that you are close to Chicago or Michigan because you use similar melodic patterns and inflection from that region, yet you have been living there for only 2-3 years. I think, that you are an embodiment of grit and perseverance, and I show you to all of my students. Please, don't get into exchanges with haters because what they're saying absolutely makes no sense.

I could say that I'm in the middle area where I don't belong to either cultures and here is where I started backing up to my culture because I hated it in the first place and English kind of gave me the escape of reality as well as dominating all thoughts that I needed to perform in my native language and as a consequence got isolated because of the lack of the verbal expression ( lost friends, never enjoyed my culture etc) so I got back. I hope no one does the same and wish you all a better experience with English

Thank you for this video. You speak an excellent american English . Impressive. I'm trying to do the same with English from south of England but I don't have your talent at all !😅 Very few people can fade their accent. In France, I lived in Paris almost almost my life, I met very very very few foreign people without accent.I just remember a russian woman, that all. Yes, foreign people can speak french very well, but without accent?no, it's absolutly exceptionnal. Absolutly, learn a foreign language changes your mind, and your point of view about a lot of things👍 Nevertheless, I'm 53 years old, my priority is to be understood, to have a consistent pronunciation, and to have fun learning English. See you soon on your youtube channel👍👌

Particulary I think this is awesome. Enable us to pass the right message when we are speaking to a native language. I've notice in english for example, there is a certain way to say something, with unique tonality, expression and everything. You have to learn how american express their words with emotions interchangeably to give the right message and intention behind it.

Hi Hanna, lovely to hear from you. I'm Paolo from Italy. Well, first I don't understand why people criticize you instead of expressing admiration for the huge work you have done, then I can tell you that speaking English has not only changed my personality and my mindset but has completely transformed my life, because I live in English. My girlfriend is British and my new family is English as well. I've embraced their culture and lifestyle with an open mind and Im happier now than I was a few years ago, and I'll never come back to because I feel more free and more me. Can you see what I mean? I don't care what other people think because my life has to fit me and not anyone else. I'm sure you perfectly know that the world doesn't end where you live, it's much bigger than that. Anyway, thanks for the immense support during my English journey and I hope to hear from you soon. Paolo.

I was wondering that myself these days. As a Brazilian, my voice sounds off when I chat in English. It indeed feels like we changed along with the language. I do have a preference for British and Scottish accents, though. But, as they say, practice makes it perfect until one can tune in their new self.
