A Spearfishing Trip starting in Lisbon takes us on the hunt for Seabass, Sargo and Slipper Lobster, one of the best delicacies in the world! We then jump on a flight to the Azores, the main goal of the trip! The first day was not easy but ended up with a productive shore dive as we found a rock full of Island Groupers, Trevally and Hogfish!

Bom Dia, My parents are from Sao Miguel, Santo Antonio, Acores near Capalas. My father, a fisherman from Rabo De Piexe, came to America in the 70s. My grandfather was a spear fisherman, that would target whales. I, 36 years old, have my own guiding business in Massachusetts, Rhode Island USA. I hope that In 2023, I can fish the islands. Terceira has great spear fishing grounds. We also spear fish here in Rhode Island. You are a legend, in my eyes. Awesome film work. Blessings and Salute!

Awesome video man. That coast looks much like the conditions we dive in off the west coast of Canada. I like your approach to your favorite spots. I'm the same way, I don't dive with people who shoot their limits everywhere I take them.

Thank you very much for the respectful comment! It was a new experience to film someone using a scooter. I've personally never done it but I believe what is more important is to be selective and hunt sustainably.

I understand where you are coming from and he only got a couple fish using it. The rest of the trip was all in constant weight even on the best spots. You'll be able to see that in the next episodes.

Very good video. Amazing to see the effort required to fish in rough seas like mainland Portugal. However, very disappointing the use of a scooter in the Azores and to hear the empty excuses

I do understand your critic. There were no excuses though. It was used to go get a couple fish for dinner. Period. While ethically I have no issue with the sporadic use of this to harvest fish sustainably I also think it is a different sport and it is something I do not do. However it was an interesting experience.

Excellent video overall and a big fan but really not a fan of the scooter. Hopefully the Azores government outlaws this during spearfishing as well.

Scooter fishing is not "sustainable" because it make anyone able to go way deeper that with bare lungs. Showing yourself using it on YT encourages others to do the same. The impact you have on young peeps and others is big. So no, it is sadly not sustainable...

Obrigado pelo feedback. Percebo a critica apesar de saber que o fizemos de forma super restrita e sustentável como retrata nas imagens. Nos próximos episódios poderão ver que o resto da trip foi toda em peso constante. No entanto apesar de tudo isso concordo e é algo que não se ira fazer em trips futuras nestas águas.

When is the best season to spearfish?need licence for spearfish in Azores as a tourist?

Yes you do need a license. Very easy to obtain locally and cheap. Also check the bag limit and protected species. I would say anytime from June to October is a good time. Just depends on what diving are you looking to do.
