I totally understand where you are coming from and I appreciate you keeping it respectful. I have never speared with a scooter personally and from the little experience I had filming Fawaz I believe is not such an advantage, especially when compared to the use of variable weight, for example. Which I believe is way more efficient and safer, specially if you are targeting smarter species. I do feel the most important aspect in spearfishing is respecting the limits and the number of captures. I saw it as just a different experience but I also understand that argument can be used with scubba diving, which I'm not a fan in terms of sportsmanship. At the end of the day I learned about something new but I will not use it personally for spearfishing.

@@bigchungus7807 I've shot the 90 and 100, both feel good in the water. Depends on the use case I guess. I shoot in low viz/high current conditions a lot and sometime I wish I had the 70cm. My 100 is a beast though. I've taken 49 lb (22KG) bass with it out at 15 ft and the spear passes clean through the entire fish.

I would have to agree with what you said. It was part of the story and I kept it but there are a few lessons taken from this experience and you definitely pointed some of them out. I did feel it was quite sketchy at times, I do feel it's not ideal for really smart fish and I do feel variable weight is more efficient in many ways. I do use quite a bit of variable weight to dive deep but I do not, and will not, use a scooter to spearfish personally. From a filming stand point it was quite an interesting experience and I did enjoy the team work and just doing something different. I do feel is not that much more efficient if we look at it as a fishing method to harvest food and it can still be sustainable and not harmful if you respect the limits. I just feel it's almost like a different sport. Interesting experience, some lessons taken and on to the next adventures.

Hey David. I do understand your point and I did not become a big fan of spearfishing with a scooter myself. However, I did not feel it brings such an advantage compared to the use of variable weight which is widely accepted in our community. For some species yes it is definitely an advantage but not for smarter fish. I do see your point and even though I do believe it can still be sustainable is something I do not do personally. I had fun filming and it was an interesting experience. I do believe the amount of fish we shot alongside with the message/way I do things does not give the sport a bad image but that is obviously a biased personal opinion. Hope you enjoyed the other videos✌

The Azores is not as full of fish as you might think. Go there and see it for yourself. It was an interesting experience to film a friend doing it like this but I do agree it is not the right approach. Always learning.
