Spearfishing Neah Bay, Washington. Taking the kayaks out the first day, then hitting the jetty the 2nd day. Had great success on both days. This was an awesome place to dive, such a great experience!
If you're in the Pacific NW and want to go spearfishing with me, contact me on instagram or email and I'll gladly set up a time to take you.

I live in the Tacoma area and have thought pretty hard about getting into spear fishing. My biggest concern is sea lions. I’m really surprised they aren’t trying to get your fish. I spend the night anchored in my boat all the time and have had issues with them getting in the boat at night and all kinds of stuff. They have almost no fear of people and will do anything for an easy meal. Do you guys ever have issues with them? Thanks for the great videos.

I am from Port Orchard originally, and am getting into freediving and hopefully spearfishing. I also caught a massive cabezon on rod/reel off the jetty close to where you were. Great edit. I'm going to try to find you on IG, maybe I'll see you out there one day.

Such a great channel. Me and my son are holding our breath with you, its harder then it looks. I'm up Near Mt hood, me and the boy always go into glacier water and catch crawdads. Slowly I'm working up the courage to go into barview jetty. Have you ever done freshwater dives with a pole spear? I think I might try the Clackamas for some Asian carp.

Thanks for the support Jesse. Its awesome that you and your son are getting into the sport together. It will give you lots of wonderful memories. Yes I’ve gone for asian carp off the Clackamas river in the middle of the winter in 33 degree water. It was a blast bit freezing! We were doing push ups in between floats to keep warm 😄

how thick are your suits? I need to get a new one, and am split between the classic farmer John set at 5 mils and the pants/jacket at 7. The farmer i now have is 5 for the coveralls and 5 for the jacket, giving me 10 on the core. It can be a little "toasty"!

Alex, the one I’m using here is a 7mm. I’ve used a 5mm but 7mm is much warmer. They are open cell. It really also depends the time of year you are diving and the waters.

@jeffro5032

Hey Borce , quick question. Diving up here in the NW this time of year , what's the thickness of your suit? I'm planning on some diving in Feb / March in NW Oregon and am looking at 6.5mm - 7.5mm suits. Just curious as to what you use and are comfortable in , this time of year up here?
@borce32
@borce32 4 жыл бұрын
Jeffro 503 Hey Jeff, I use a 7mm open cell suit. When I first started I was using a 5mm wetsuit year round but 7mm is more comfortable. You can get away with a 5mm but I would get a 7mm in case you ever go to Alaska or spearfish in colder waters. Stick to an open cell wetsuit tho. Much more warmer than the same thickness closed cell wetsuit.
@jeffro5032
@jeffro5032 4 жыл бұрын
of Hey Borce , thanks for the reply. I definitely planned on a 7mm wetsuit for sure. The shop I'm going through , has a few different brands I was looking at , but I really wanted a suit with a back zip so I can take it on and off by myself , in case I have nobody to go with. He has some open cell two piece suits , but I was looking at the Scubapro Everflex 7/5 , which is a closed cell. The shop rents quite a few different types / brands , so I'll try as many as I can before I by. Is your Cressi a 1 or 2 piece? If you are staying warm in this time up year up there , it sounds like it must work pretty dang good. The shop doesn't sell Cressi as far as I'm aware , but he sweard that the Scubapro suit works pretty good in cold water. Have you tried one?
@borce32
@borce32 4 жыл бұрын
Jeffro 503 Hey Jeff, closed cells are mainly for surfing. Not many people use them for spearfishing but it should work just fine. My wetsuit is a 2piece open cell and its actually really easy to take off. Probably easier than a one piece open cell. Check out my video on paragliding equipment. It should give you an idea on what to buy to get started.
@jeffro5032
@jeffro5032 4 жыл бұрын
@@borce32 Thanks again Borce! I think you may have swayed me into a 2 piece suit! The shop I was mentioning carries Omer , and they make some nice 7mm open cell suits as well. From what I understand is , closed cell suits tend to lose like 20 - 30% of their heat , but are easier to get on. I'm definitely going to try on some two piece suits. I watched your video you did on spear fishing equipment , and that helped a bunch. Also realized that you actually live by me haha. I'm in Portland , and I know you mentioned Oregon. Thanks again Borce for your help. Hope to go spear some fish with you some day , once I get things figured out. Take it easy , and thanks again for all your help!

@borce32
@borce32 Жыл бұрын
I would join the local freediving forum / facebook group and find someone to do a course with. Its one of those activities that you need lots of experience to be able to eventually do it at big depths. Start with diving in pools and work your way up from there. I would do a beginner freediving class first tho.
