Spearfishing, New York before the storm.

I went on a Sunday, and I was surprised by the lack of boat traffic. It was windy, like a big storm was on the way.
The previous days had strong winds and rough waves.
On these 3 days I took one striped bass and 2 triggerfish.
With the strict size slot regulations fro striped bass often I do not even attempt to take them.
I always hope for porgies and bluefish, which do not have the same limitations, but are not as common.
I see so many large blackfish, but they are legal only in April and after mid October, when only the smaller ones are around.
Triggerfish are among the best tasting fish. They are so easy to clean, as their skin is so hard as leather. I like them raw. But they are like sitting ducks. If you approach slowly they do not flee. They are pretty chill, they eat mostly small mussels. They sometimes bite divers, they have strong powerful molar like teeth and strong jaws, but a very small mouth,
Porgies and sheepshseads are challenging, as they are skittish and very fast.
Bluefish too, but i have not seen them around, yet.
Striped bass I see them every time. When in a large school it is hard to assess the size. So I prefer to take a chance when I see them individually.
I was surprised to see a sheepshead as soon as I got out away from the beach. I took the shot from above, while i was going to the bottom. Missed.
I much prefer to get to the bottom and take a shot from below.
On Sunday there was big swell. Something that makes me wary about being too close to the rocks.
When I started years ago a wave pushed me onto the jetty and waves kept crashing on me. It was hard to get out of it. Or the dive float or the speargun could get stuck. So now I pay attention to the direction of the waves, and the wind.
I used the DJI Action 4 on the speargun. It seems to perform better than the GoPro in low/dim light, with more shadow detail. But the lens is much wider, and sometimes distorts at the edges.
