Spearfishing a week after suddenly getting off high-dose steroids.
The wind was about 15 knots, the ocean was rough. I almost turned back, but the visibility was better than I expected.
It had been too many days since I last went spearfishing.
June, before the water is too warm, before the jetski crowds, the careless boaters.
Finally with a 3mm wetsuit, which is less constricting, lycra socks, and Dyneema gloves.
I took 3 shots, a triggerfish, a large bluefish, and a striped bass.
Bluefish is a top predator, grows fast and lives around 7 years. Bluefish are hard to get with the speargun, as they are so fast.
I want to make sure they are not a short striped bass, and they are gone.
I went down and I saw a school around me. I stopped before getting to the bottom and I tracked one.
I felt the pull on the line, but I could not see if I got the fish.
The current was strong, and the wind from the west was picking up.
There were beautiful waves on the east side of the jetty. The undertow makes you work out to get out of the water, it pulls you back.
I was not 100%, after experiencing an ear issue and a high dose of corticosteroid side effects but I felt reinvigorated by the ocean. The walk to my car felt longer with heavy fish and gear.
I used the GoPro Hero 10, which is great. The hydrophobic coating on the lens cover improves the image quality when above the water. I had sold some old cameras and bought the DJI Action 2. I like the small size and the sealed camera module, but I am disappointed by the image quality and performance. Definitely overrated. I was traveling and the return window closed. I may fiddle with the settings.
The GoPro Hero 10 is great
The speargun is the Salvimar Predathor Vuoto 55 cm (22in), which is very short but still powerful. Most fish ends on the line. it can be reloaded quickly and is portable.
I took only 3 shots and got 3 fish. The last time I went I missed a sea robin at close range.
