Sham Sara Me too! Yes, we can be under pressure academically sometimes, but this is to the extreme! Looking at this makes me thankful that getting into college in the U.S. is a little easier as they look at more than just grades. They look at community service, clubs and organizations and some other things too. The results of their college entrance exam (aka the GaoKao) can mean the difference between a life in poverty and a brighter future. I'm not sure if I would've suvived going to school in China growing up (especially high school)! 😣😣😣😣

@@dotmerah6713 From my perspective it's a yes but also a no at the same time. It's all depends on which career you are focusing on, anything with hand-on experience you can go to pretty much a trade school or a community college and get a license with a certified hours of practice on your belt. Anything with office or corporate you can either attend a university or community college and get the same degree, the only contrast is the name and prestige of the school and that's it. Often time employers does not delves into how great of a school you went to, it's all about experience and what you can bring to the table, not the high grades you earned in school. Given the current social economic situation a lot of us are in, you don't really need a degree from university to make 6 digits income. There are jobs out there that are willing to train you as you work and slowly build a higher salary as you become more experienced in your field. There's a saying many of my teachers have said when I was in school "It's not about WHAT you know but WHO you know." The people you surround yourself with will be the one who one day further your career. Hopes that help!

@robinduongmusic16015 жыл бұрын
It really depends. There's still a huge premium placed on people with degrees from Ivy Leagues, but what matters more, I think, is your degree. What you need is an employer to take a chance on you and to hire you. And it's easier to do that if you have a good degree. But it is absolutely possible to get a good job at a good company just by going to your local university and doing really well and applying what you learn. There's a premium on prestige, but it's equally important to have people skills and interview skills. It's weird, but you have to show your potential employer how YOU shine as a completely unique person, and each person brings something different to the team.

Later, I realised his parents made him do it by pressure. Nonetheless, the guy was very much into fashion and I think he was gay or maybe just little too much feminine. He was leather crafting bags and stuffs in his flat, and selling them for thousands of pounds to posh customers. No wonder he never had time for our socials or project meetings. Good for him. If only his parents knew about his talent because he was absolutely clueless in the world of engineering. He should have done fashion degree. This lately my daughter just share me her experience in english class where that time the teacher were teaching them about subject for chicken...so for the test during that day, tthe students have a Q&A paper to test their knowledge for that day, there is 1question came out and ask about what the dinner you had last night and mys daughter answer was I ahd spaggethi for my dinner... and yeah...the answer was unacceptable and she suppose to answer it i had dinner with fried chicken! 😂😂...then her grade for this question was being X by the teacher...😂😂

In china local school, you can't imagine how much the homework they gave to the students. For primary kids it is very common they sleep around 9-10 in the evening for doing homework. Imagine for the middle and high school student 😂😂😂. Even when they have their meal or doing their exercise they still bring along their book for study. Some best school even they don't have holiday, you still have extra lessons on sunday. That is why all chinese student are very tough and very smart. There is 1 time my daughter got 94 for her math, the teacher still not satisfy because on that day, almost whole class got 100 😂😂. I told the teacher that I am very satisfy with the 94. The only problem my daugjter facing was his quick counting ( means when the teacher write calculation aboit math, the student without thinhking already know the answer and my daughter have to calculate first). Apparently all this kids, a lot of them already have extra lesson for math aince in the kindergarten 😢😢😢. Now can you imagine why all yhe chinese very exell in yheir academic. I can write a ling story about how the education system in china because there are a lot of amazing experience that make me very admire the kids in china.

The Chinese according to me have insane expectations and their definition of success is only and only the top of the corporate pyramid. To get there you will not only need a good gaokao score, you will need connections, referrals, and slave more harder under bosses than you will in the fields or at a factory. Because the stake is way higher in corporate. The higher you go, the more people and colleagues WANT you to fail, in the other hand the team of societal failures who work in factories and fields are actually going to have loads of friends and human support. China still is a first world country, meaning even a minimum wage job is enough to live with basic accomodation like healthcare, housing, food, etc. If you look deeper, the once who failed in life there actually might be substantially living a happier and stress free life than the successful ones. 🙂 Just my opinion

True but it coincides with the purpose of the test. Everyone is restricted to the same class content and textbook work that way the test is fair and nobody has extra knowledge. Everyone gets taught the exact same thing with no extra learning and by doing so we can test who truly works hard to make sure they understand the content they all learned, the best.

@Rich 91 It’s true. China has a overlarge population, so education resources for a single student are very limited. Gov has to concentrate resources on good universities. This is why students in the video study so hard. There are big differences between first-tier universities and other universities. Gov won't close 3rd-tier universities because China is communism, which means everyone has the right to study in universities.

You don't need to be on a very very good college to be successful in life. I consider myself in a third tier college but after graduating, it seems like job is coming on me. Yes i started at a minimum salary but now i've had a chance to go to japan and fulfill my dream job to become systems engineer, its all about hardwork after college. Yes many kids stress themselves so much. I actually let go of that pressure because it is unhealty for me. My parents kinda disagree but still I didn't let them down I just don't want to get pressured like that. I actually hate memorizing a lot. In fact, like 95% of what you learned in high school is useless knowledge, meaning you cannot apply it in work. Why store it in your brain anyway. I value logical thinking and i think that is what made me who I am today.

the problem is, China is a developing country, the best resources and opportunities give to the winners who attend to good colleges , so this is the life changing point for people are bet on this exam. When everyone else is working hard but you are not, sorry then you will be the one who are out of the game. Of course you will still have a good life without going to college, but for them in China, this is the only chance for them to jump out of their class, especially for the poorer areas since they do not get much opportunities to change their lives.

It has considered the good jobs in the future. Different to Western schools, Chinese highschool are separated into two branch, literature or stem(science technology engineer math). It's the student's choice to enter which branch around 11th grade, yet you're welcome to switch during the year. These branches are different because they focused more on different subjects, to suit the student's needs. If you want to be a writer, for example, you might consider literacy branch because math is less tense. This is part why I don't agree with you completely. Highschool subjects vary, and some of them can be very hard. some teenagers don't know what's going to happen in there future, they might not have plans for jobs , so a better coverage on different knowledge can prepare them better.

Beating a child harder to a point a child becomes immune to it and thinks that he or she is not good. I agree on the approach of discipline but this does not apply to situation where the child needs understanding. Is such a pity for those who have to undergo such stressful situation at such a young age. Moreover, all the trauma a child face will only scar them for life.

Gosh, the number of times she called me stupid or a good for nothing all because I was taking a longer time to grasp basic addition and subtraction. Her biting comments only drew me further away from her and hurt my feelings even more. She probably thought she was helping me by being so harsh but it made me trust her less. She also hit me once for not doing my homework. Old Koreans were the ones who lifted South Korea and most are now homeless, hungry, and suicide rates for thr elders and teenagers is rising. Koreans are coming to the US because they are fed up with Korea's egocentric society of looking down at people because of the car they drive, grades, job, university, social status, etc. I'd say East Asians are becoming organic robots and less human. Not all people are going to have extremely good grades, families shouldn't look at them as a disgrace to their family. 21:46 “No one forces you to come here.” Referring to the parents and not the actual kids/ students. Maybe some are motivated, but clearly not all. No matter what, it’s not in anyway fair to impose your dreams (maybe generations worth) on a child. Unable to help them psychologically. And in the future , they’ll just give up, because they’re being pushed here, and dreams/ innovation, etc. are disregarded. In the previous video- the ex-students said that themselves. “It’s boring”.They aren’t even allowed to be kids when they’re kids. Becoming sick while studying is clearly not okay. BBC had a 5 part docu series called Chinese School where I was first exposed to this. But this is just horrific. But this is seen to an extent in India as well. Suicide rates spike around the time of the boards and entrance exams.
