HA - just finished watching the video - I completely take your point about using the funds towards Old Carter or Four Gate. The challenge with those is availability - I'm in VA and Four Gate is not available and Old Carter is available in MD and DC for significant mark up (like $300) IF you can actually find a bottle.

I agree with the challenge of obtaining an old carter or a four gate but the special Release #4 isn't exactly sitting on the shelf either 😆. So that was a "wash" for me ✌️

Hey Bob! All I got is my word & reputation and if I lose my credibility, my KZfaq Channel would die quickly. I'm a huge fan of Nancy Fraley and the blending is incredible with the special Release as well, but the price is a tad high 😉. Have a safe 4th of July weekend and cheers ~

Thank you for another great video! I honestly find it hard to justify a bottle for over than $80! There are so many great options out there and paying more is like following the law of diminishing returns for me. I’ve got the Old Forster 1924 and I quickly felt like I should have got two great bottles for that price, such as Knob Creek 12 and Russel’s Reserve Single Barrel or Old Forster 1920, or even Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof., or the Rye version of it. These are all great options. Thanks again!

Past that $80 price point, it takes so much effort and time to improve the product (whiskey), the price increase doesn't increase the quality in a consistent scale. But with anything (cars, watches, computers, etc.), getting 1% better is a high cost. But sometimes it's worth it but not here (not by much, I would still pay $150 for it). I respectfully disagree with you on this one - I think the Special Release is absolutely worth the MSRP for the quality, experience AND uniqueness. I don't think we can do the simple equation of whether a bottle is "twice as good" for twice the price. I think of it as - "would I rather have one bottle of the Special Release or 2 more bottles of the standard Murray Hill" if I already have a bottle (or two) of the standard product. Anyway, I love it - thanks for another great review!

It's a wonderful pour and I definitely don't regret the purchase but at it's current price point, it's competing with some awesome barrel proof finished whiskys and I wish it was just slightly lower in price. David old boy, Great review ! ! Nice to hear an honest response to product pricing. Even though I haven't tried either of these bottles, I do agree two is better than one as long as they are relatively close in quality. Like you said... Old Carter is sitting on the shelf for @ $200 to $225 . And from what you have said in your previous reviews O.C. is putting out exceptional offerings. Although I gotta say the Murray Hill special release is nice n dark. Looks Mm Mm good. ;-] D

Hey Dana! Special Release is an absolute fantastic pour but the competition is tough at the $200 range. With this not being barrel proof, I wish the price would come down a little. But I'm sure most people will love it and not regret the purchase. I don't regret it as I'm glad I had it but not going to buy one anytime soon 😆. Well, David, I have not had either of those however, if I do come across the special release at MSRP or within 20 bucks of MSRP, I will be grabbing it. not many places around me have the Murray Hill. If I see that around 85 bucks I’ll probably pick that up as well 🥃😎

Man, you made that sound reeeeal good. I like all their offerings. If I spent $200 on the cigar blend I think I could spend $200 on batch 4. Their brand won me over much like the Punchers Chance from wolf spirits. Heaven Hill has access to my wallet as well. Great video see you in the chat

Great review and comparison. I am very happy I was able to get one of the Special Release #4 bottles. So hard to get and I have been able to sample it out to others who could not get it. 🥃

I had the Murray Hill club in 2018 and it had a cherry colon milk was all right, but it’s been very hard to get ever since in my area. if I see either of these on sale, I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the honest review again.

Great honest review David! Well I haven't had any of them,but will consider the MHC just because I can find it for way cheaper. I'm sure the Special Release is good,but at $200, I'll settle for a good Old Carter. Keep up the great content and cheers!

I just picked this bottle up yesterday and the first pour I thought was GREAT! I agree with everything you said but I also really enjoyed the oak backbone. I have never had the regular murry hill club. Maybe I should go buy one if you think the special release is not worth double the price

Hey Brett! This result was probably due to the fact that the regular Murray Hill Club is so delicious! And most bottles are not worth twice the cost of this wonderful pour! The special Release #4 almost did it but it just fell short (but still a great pour and definitely better than the regular). If you ever get the regular murray hill club, let me know how you like it! @WhiskeyBank I think now I am going to have to! I live in a small town and usually I have to travel an hour or more to get to Louisville to get anything good! However my local store had cigar blend and the murry hill club special release and I had to grab both! They are expensive but great great whiskeys! Keep the great content coming

The Special Release is really good. Not perfect, but it is a special bottle for me, just like Cigar Blend is. Thankfully, the standard MHC will be around after #4 is long gone.

Hey Scotty! Short answer, I prefer the cigar blend. Long answer, cigar blend is a bit more complex and has an array of flavors that just keep it interesting and fun all throughout the bottle. But can't go wrong with either 🤷. Have a fantastic 4th of July weekend and cheers ~

I'll be honest, I don't regret my purchase as it is a rare bottle and I love to try new whiskeys but just judging the experience, I wish it was slightly cheaper 😆. I think this falls under the rule of diminishing returns. At a certain point, you're paying a much higher premium for much smaller differences. All that being said, sometimes that little 10-20% is worth it to you.

I absolutely agree! That 10% to 20% difference of quality and I'm willing to spend 50% for it (up to $150 compared to $100 for the regular murray hill club). But just not 100% more 😆.
