Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart respond to the breaking news that Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid have both resigned from the Government. How long can Boris Johnson survive as Prime Minister after two of his heavyweight ministers resign a few minutes apart?

This is frankly the only space where I can hear intelligent debate on politics.

I really want Labour to become the largest party, but to fall short of a majority and be reliant on the Lib Dems to prop them up. Then the Lib Dems can make themselves useful by only supporting Labour in exchange for them backing electoral reform and a switch to PR. A major reason why British politics is broken, is due to the ridiculous and outdated FPTP system. PR wouldn’t make things perfect, far from it, but it would improve things considerably.

How would PR improve things? The Scottish Greens are in power in PR Scotland with just 1.3% of the constituency vote - that's not democracy. PR Germany were without a govt for 4 months after their recent election, struggling to form a coalition govt; their energy policy has been a disaster due to trying to please every German political party in the coalition. Most European countries' PR system delivers weaker constituency links and limited voter choice. The UK is the most democratic country in the world in terms of how many manifesto pledges are delivered in whole or part in the next parliament at 88% compared to 50% in PR Germany and a terrible 33% in PR Ireland. Every European country's election turnout is inferior to the UK's, on average, except for Belgium & Luxembourg (where voting is compulsory) and polarised Malta. PR provides proportional representation but not proportional government - no-one knows what govt you'll get with PR. So again, how does all that "improve things considerably"?

I hope Labour completely obliterate the Conservatives at the next election. I desperately want to see the Conservatives smashed into a million pieces. I want to see all the anger and fury that we have bottled up since 2010 to be unleashed and blast the Conservatives off the map. I want to watch the election night coverage on the BBC make 1997 look tame. I want John Snow's swingometer to break with the magnitude of the defeat. I want to see things like ´Tunbridge Wells: Labour gain... Surrey East: Labour gain... Horsham: Labour gain...'

Love these guys from different sides of the chamber talking with such intelligence & genuine interest in what the other has to say. Refreshing after watching Boris on PQT spluttering and muttering incoherently today. Subscribed! Nope Rory, I didnt vote for Brexit; of all of Boris's lies, Brexit was his biggest & will prove to be by far the most damaging. Oh and Alastair, the recent quote I heard on Boris was something like ‘don’t mistake an expensive education for intelligent or integrity’.

I think the Tories need a new leader. I support Labour, but the Tories need a new UK leader. My choice would be Ben Wallace. He has army, business and political experience.

I suspect Michael Gove may be the next PM. He would be absolutely dreadful, but he is an establishment conservative back-roomer, and has been conspicuously absent in defending Johnson on news programs, which speaks volumes. Truss stands no chance of doing the job, and has no respect or integrity, politically and publicly. Mogg is channelling Chamberlain in interviews; fully backing Johnson's honesty, like Chamberlain, despite clear indications otherwise. Clearly he is angling for No. 10. He would be the worst, would set England back 50 years and hasten the collapse of the empire. On second thoughts, I think Theresa May's time for a comeback may be imminent…

There's no shame to be felt in the Tory party right now, Johnson has lowered that bar. So I'll put a 50p bet that Sunak and Javid run as a duo for prime minister and chancellor. Hunt runs as the untainted one and gets ignored because pretty much everyone is tainted. Some silly Boris fan runs as a Bojo continuity candidate, Nadine maybe or Truss, possibly Patel? And then obviously Gove because he has cocaine psychosis and this leads to delusional thinking 😂

You said you're interested in what leave voters think.... I voted Leave for the opportunity to change for the better. The common market was never an issue, that was what it was supposed to be but ended up with too any strings attached that run counter to democracy to my eyes. I didn't vote leave to see the current PM in office, not one iota, I don't know any of my fellow brexiteers that wanted this man as PM. While I was happy that voting leave would provide opportunity for real change I didnt know who would make the best of this, in hindsight I'd vote the same way, for the opportunity, not the current outcome, which I think was appallingly poorly handled. For background I'm also a Labour leaver (there's a LOT more of us than you'd think), to this day I think Leave is a fundamentally left wing not right wing approach, a la Kate Hooey. Our workers rights are far better served when provided for by our own accountable politicians and parties than a small voice in a vast euro parliament where we can effect little to no change.
Is this the end for Boris Johnson?
